 | | chessgames.com: < by observing ... nothing? (inactivity) > Sorry--that was a little obscure--but basically you explained exactly what we meant. If the member in question goes from 20 trollish/disruptive/off-topic posts a day, all the way down to 0 posts per day, it could very well be that they are now on kibitzing probation. <is there some way of positively getting a <confirmation> that someone is on probation?> No, there isn't. We typically treat infraction status as if it is privileged information. We're not obligated to do it that way, but we think it's the best policy. |

| Mar-23-10 | | SugarDom: My letter to Mr. Daniel Freeman:
To: chess@chessgames.com
Subject: Attn Mr. Daniel Freeman
Dear Sir,
My chessgames.com handle is SugarDom. I have been a member of your site since 30 Aug 2008. I took out a premium membership last year, thinking it will show my intent of being a serious poster on your site. We have been busy trying to recruit people to chessgames.com and even urging hard for them to take a premium memberships. We blog as much as possible about Wesley So to generate interest. We have managed to get 250 people, but unfortunately i cannot continue with it anymore. This is due to a certain poster with handle "tpstar" who keeps provoking our people and when some members response, he labels us racists, murderers and cultists. I have blown the whistle many times for this "kibitzer" but he seems to be untouchable. He even admits that he is happy that his "project" (of driving us away) is working and he will do it again and again. Since the admins seem to be powerless against this man, i therefore came to conclusion that we are not welcome in your site. I just wrote this letter to make sure you know what is happening. Sincerely Yours,
SugarDom |

 | | chessgames.com: SugarDom:
We're very familiar with this situation--we've seen it happen many times. The names change but the story is always the same: one or more user tells us that other user(s) are "driving them off the site." Such nonsense. The only people in power to drive you off the site is Chessgames itself, and we assure you that you are welcomed here, as well as all of your chess-loving friends, provided that they abide by the rules. If you find any of our rules being violated, use the Whistle feature. It really does work, in spite of implications otherwise. We should add, if another user is bothersome you should put them on your ignore list so you never have to read another word they post. |

| Mar-24-10 | | zarg: <SugarDom>,
everyone can't get their will and if you find the policy on this site to be rather slack, it's odd you keep on violating the rules like this. Now you attack <cg.com> all over the place, I saw this post of yours in your forum, So page and here.I wonder, how would you like it if the <cg.com> admins behaved like you do? Being a premium member, isn't a free ticket to violate the rules, getting some special treatment and avoid following the posting guidelines yourself. Name calling others racist, because they
disagree with <you> or don't like the way <you> behave, is just as bad (or worse) as accusing someone at cheating in chess, without having any evidence whatsoever. Granted, <tp>'s rants can be annoying, but heck he is nothing compared to the trolls and spammers who target a forum day after day, like you did. So why did you do it?
You said it was a Carlsen fan, who annoyed you over at the Naka forum, and therefore you (and timhortons) retaliated and tried to punished <all> the Carlsen fans, and it looked as you even enjoyed doing it. I wonder, how would you taken it, if the most <obnoxious> Carlsen fan, had retaliated like that in the So forum? The most obnoxious Carlsen fan didn't, instead his only posts in the So forum was very much respectful and polite, the actions of a few, didn't make him take revenge against innocent people. Also, I know pretty well how this obnoxious fan would have reacted (remember you have stated that person to be <zarg>), if he was subject to some bias and/or injustice from the admins. First of all, he would have put that on the account of some random bias. I can't imagine something more <boring> for the admins, than having to deal with offended people all the time, it's a no-win situation. Whatever he do, I bet the chance is high that at least one side will get even more offended, and I can easily imagine that happening to both sides! Try this thought experiment: you have been wrong and the admins has dealt with this matter in an objective and patient way, hence enforcing no deliberate bias according to the existing <cg.com> policy. Now, how does this campaign of yours look then, you being an aggressor, retaliate against the innocent and make threats in public like the above? Cool down and think about that. No offence, but humans make mistakes all the time, and that might even include you. |

| Mar-26-10 | | 1. h4: Whoa. <Another> relatively new user: User: Belov Vladimir Is this one real too?! Please confirm. |
|
Mar-27-10
 | | chessgames.com: Sometimes it's hard to confirm these things but we'll do our best. If they are who they say they are, they'll get a complimentary membership. Therein lies the complication: a motivation for people to lie (beyond the normal trolling reasons). |

 | | chessgames.com: Some very happy news.
First, User: Belov Vladimir is definitely GM Belov. We'd stake our reputations on it. We welcome him heartily to the site, as he not only has become instantly one of our strongest members, but also seems to be a warm and generous person who would be happy to participate in the kibitzing. We hope to hear from him soon in the public forums. User: DarkNolan is only slightly less clear. That puts him in the same position as several other GMs who at first generated skepticism but now are obviously genuine. We can say this: if it's not Kamsky, it's an incredibly elaborate hoax. So with no reason to doubt him, we also warmly welcome GM Kamksy to our site. We are very proud to have both of these famous players join our ranks and hope that we see them participate on this site in the days that lie ahead. |

| Mar-28-10 | | wordfunph: <chessgames.com: Some very happy news.> thanks <CG>, now we have at least 5 GMs ready to be sent to 2010 Khanti-Mansyk Chess Olympiad. :-) + GM Nigel Short
+ GM Wesley So
+ GM Rogelio Antonio
+ GM Raymond Keene
+ GM Vladimir Belov
...and we hope <DarkNolan> is the genius Gata. |

| Apr-01-10 | | crawfb5: I submitted a correction slip on Smyslov vs Hort, 1970, as it is a duplicate of Mackenzie vs J Mason, 1878. I noticed this by the brief kibitz left by <Chessdreamer>. In checking his/her other kibitzes, it appears there are some other Mason-Smyslov duplicates: Zukertort vs J Mason, 1878
and
Minic vs Smyslov, 1970
S Rosenthal vs J Mason, 1878
and
Smyslov vs Ivkov, 1970
I checked the first third of the Mason games, and these were the only ones that popped up, but something odd is going on. Maybe it's time to run a diagnostic looking for duplicates and then make decisions by hand (there are occasional real duplicates but those are not that common). |

| Apr-08-10 | | Caissanist: <cg>: have you considered adopting the practice of writing players' names as family name
,given name (as does FIDE)? I would think it would make your life easier to not have to worry about "first" and "last" names of Chinese, Indian, etc. players. |
|
Apr-09-10
 | | chessgames.com: <Caissanist> We've considered it 10 years ago and decided instead to use two strings for each name, the full name (e.g. "Robert James Fischer") and the shortened-version (e.g. "Fischer"). We could migrate to some other system but the work involved in enormous and the payoff is questionable. <laskersteinitz> We have that online now: Philadelphia Open (2010). Congratulations to User: DarkNolan! <zarg> It seems there is always one more bug in the Ending Explorer. Thanks for pointing it out. <whiteshark> Ugh, what a mess. The official site merged the women's games into the mens for two rounds then corrected it--but those corrections don't help us because our software will refuse to insert a duplicate game. We tried to clean it up but there are still no doubt games in the mens section that should be moved. |
