| Jul-05-10 | | hms123: <<POTD winner>> First, we wish to thank everyone who made a nomination and everyone who was nominated for helping us to come up with this year’s winner of the <POTD’s> award in honor of User: Rinus . Second, there were lots of good candidates who made good and constructive contributions to the <POTD> and who help to make the <POTD> one of the most enjoyable daily discussions at chessgames.com. We focused specifically on the content of the posts. To that end, a few us went back and read a sample of posts from the main nominees. Even having done so, we still found the decision a close one. Nonetheless, we agreed on <Patriot> as this year’s winner of a year-long premium membership. We have already written to Chessgames.com. They should be activating the membership shortly. Thanks again for your help. |

| Jul-08-10 | | SugarDom: Dear Chessgames,
I have submitted an e-mail application to chess@chessgames.com for biographer of Wesley So player page. However, i received no reply. I know there may be a trust deficit between the two of us, but believe me this is for your benefit and the chess-following public. My purpose is actually noble and practical. I just wanted to add 3 lines to the end of the biography. 1 - Last tournament participated
2 - Current tournament
3 - Next tournament
venues and dates.
That is to encourage the chess net-surfers to instinctively go to cg for information. Also to provide information to CG kibitzers as information in the kibitzes are quickly drown out by the constant chatter, and many kibitzers are asking. You know what i mean. I will take your kind understanding as a sign of goodwill and good faith.
Regards, |

Have you done any changes with/to ActiveX on the pages here? I seem to have a problem viewing games using Deluxe Chess Viewer, <Deluxe Viewer> are trying to help me figure it out. I noticed, that after I changed some of my Internet Option in my IE's security section to be less strict, I am getting a lot of pop ups warning me about ActiveX. Have CG always have had ActiveX within its pages? And I just have never seen them because of my security settings? This happened today when I wanted to view a game, and it came up with an ActiveX warning, then I said allow, the browser then blocked it, because cvd/ was an unknown publisher of the ActiveX. Now I can't use my favourite chess viewer! Waaaaaaa! =( Any information, that you may be able to provide, would greatly help me and <Deluxe Viewer> in solving this problem. |

 | | Eggman: I notice that the following games don't appear when I use the Opening Explorer: O Dancevski vs D Gorgieski, 2002,
Y Yu vs Wang Chen, 2008,
M Delgado Crespo vs L Lucena, 2001,
K Spraggett vs Doug Boileau, 1973. What these games have in common is that they all reach the same position after six moves (the moves, in varying orders, being 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bc4 Nd7 4.d4 Be7? 5.dxe5 dxe5?? 6.Qd5) and that Black's 6th move is to resign. I was only able to find them by clicking one "search database for this position" - they do not appear on the list of games on the right side, as it seems to me they should. |

| Jul-13-10 | | 1. h4: Could you guys delete all the Goldsby/everybody else crap on the D Byrne vs Fischer, 1956 page? Arguments like those don't belong anywhere near that gem of a game. Also, A J Goldsby vs Tkachiev, 1995 's kibitzes should be deleted (the non-chess related ones, of course). That should've been done a while ago. And please do something about all the pointless arguing. You guys did some good work on some other page (I forget which?), deleting a bunch of stuff, but other than that, it seems as if no action has really been taken. There's no denying that there have been several personal attacks by Goldsby. He's basically telling other users that they're stupid, nasty, twits, he hopes they die, etc etc. Goldsby, at the VERY LEAST, deserves a strict warning, if not so already. After that, if he continues, well, then you guys can decide on what action to take next. Sitting idle is no action at all. The issue here is not "who's right", but instead that Goldsby is obviously, and in plain sight, attacking several other users. To put it in words from another user, "CG.com should be able to see the filth in AJ's posts." Hopefully, you guys do, and delete the posts you see fit to delete, along with the warning to AJ. Thanks. |

| Jul-14-10 | | YouRang: Reminder - The round 1 games for Dortmund 2010 start tomorrow, yet it has no tournament page. I think you usually have a tournament page set up a few days before the games begin. Thanks. |

| Jul-17-10 | | just a kid: <CG> I notice at the bottom of some of the games I looked at and it says this type of game is... either Classical or Rapid and Blindfold. Is there anyway to say just search Blindfold games and exclude all others out? |

| Jul-20-10 | | crawfb5: I am just starting a games collection of Alekhine's clock simul games (Game Collection: Alekhine's clock simuls). Right now it is just a scrambled collection of games. I need to verify I have pulled correct games, organize them by event, add notes, etc. I hope to eventually make it into a companion collection to the one on Kasparov's clock simul games (Game Collection: Kasparov's super simuls), although I will probably not be able to locate as much background information. In selecting these games, I notice that many are misidentified as <CLASSICAL> instead of <EXHIBITION> and often only the year is given as the event date. I suspect this is also true of many regular simul games for these and any other strong players that gave a lot of exhibitions of various kinds (Fischer, Capablanca, etc.). There are some books specifically on exhibition games for Alekhine and Fischer, as well as extensive games collections for other players. My question is: are the game type classification and exact date something CG wants to fix? Generally the only fix needed would be the classifcation and the exact date, but we'd be talking about a <LOT> of correction slips. I thought I should ask before I bury us both... |

1. Go to Opening Explorer page
2. paste the following: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 e5 5. Nb5 d6 6. Nb1c3 a6 The display only goes up to 5... d6 even though move 6 is listed as a selection choice on the right hand side. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Open Defense> Can you be more specific? The last submission we see for you was a few weeks back, S Hosea vs Radu Stancu, 2010 which was obviously accepted, and before that there was a Petrosian-Vukcevich game which we already had in the database. <WannaBe> Yes that's a known bug that has to do with the N1c3 nomenclature. It's really just a display bug: you can explore the open fine, but the top bar of hot links to the various moves gets a little quirky. We'll get around to fixing that one day. <Just a kid> You can't search on the game-type field, at least not yet. We don't trust the integrity of that data enough to let people search for it. There are too many blindfold games listed as regular, and rapid games listed as classical, etc. Once we think it's fine-tuned enough we'll offer a way to search on it. Meanwhile you can find game collections of blindfold masterpieces and things of that nature with our Game Collection Search. |

| Jul-22-10 | | whiskeyrebel: Excuse me, what happened to my forum? I haven't communicated with anybody there for a few months, but I figured the several pages that do exist would always be there. Do old pages vanish now? My membership hasn't lapsed. Please advise. |
