What in Hell is going on?>>
Something is defintely wrong here. Daniel cannot even be in the office. IF he was around, then this stuff would be wiped out, I have faith that this is true; so far, <flamingpie> has broken every rule in the book. |

 | | Domdaniel: It'll vanish soon. Somebody just deleted offensive posts in my forum. I dropped in here to say thanks, and didn't recognize the place at first. <CG> Thanks for dealing with Finan's latest. |

 | | chessgames.com: <LIFE Master AJ:> <Something is defintely wrong here. Daniel cannot even be in the office. IF he was around, then this stuff would be wiped out, I have faith that this is true> This time, LMAJ hits the nail on the head. Here I am trying to spend a well 48-hour break on Captiva Island and I come back to see, as TheFocus put it, <the inmates taking over the asylum.> <Hugin: I have a suggestion/solution...When it's obvious some are involved in a never ending war on this site, i suggest the admins simply delete that kind of posting.> You have the right idea my friend, and that's what we do most of the time. But as Daniel usually moderates this page, the admin on duty (who did a fine job on other pages) didn't want to meddle with it until Daniel got back. Some of the posts were great. Some where horrible. They all got read (and a few taken to heart) but nearly all were wiped out. While we're on the subject of inappropriate posts, let me comment on something that it says above. While we claim that this forum is to "make suggestions to improve the site", certain people use that loophole as shamelessly as the US Congress abuses the commerce clause. When user <Join The Army> suggested a feature which today has become Guess-the-Move, now THAT was a suggestion. If you "suggest that a certain user is a sockpuppet", that's not a suggestion. You're just twisting words. Keep it to yourself, or if you insist, email it to chess@chessgames.com. If you want to "suggest that we ban so-and-so", just use the whistle, preferably on a post which supports your opinion. True, you will lose the "soap-box effect", and if you don't like that, then tough. This isn't anybody's soap-box (not even mine!) ... it's a SUPPORT FORUM for people who legitimately have problems using the site. Let me finally add one last waring: that posts of an inappropriate nature that follow this will be deleted in short order. Thank you. |

 | | Domdaniel: <CG> Thank you very much indeed, for your work on both fronts that affected me. I have no idea how many others you had to deal with. I'm glad to see that the mass deletion has brought my earlier query about the upload format back into view. I'm not asking for an instant response or a miracle cure ... but maybe, when you have time? Oh, and I hate to add this ... but this <pirotmata> guy is still attacking me in my forum. So far I've just deleted 'em. Thanks again. |

Are you implying, that most of the time, I miss? (hee-hee) No offense meant, and none taken, of course. |
|
| Oct-07-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: Serious question: Do we have to fear that "you-know-who" is going tp perpetually return ... and virtually vandalize the whole site? More seriously: Other than reporting it when I see it, ("blow the whistle," e-mail); is there something else that I can do to help out when this happens? |
|
| Oct-07-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: AND ... (drum roll please) ...
I have a new suggestion.
"Guess The Move" is great, I have used it many times! But how about a way to get a CG rating? Here are my thoughts.
#1.) You have literally hundreds (if not thousands) of POTD's. #2.) I could happily help you get more positions, I have a pretty big chess library, and I am sure that other users could throw more material at you. #3.) Once a week, come up with a test. Time and rate the answers. You get points (a RATING!) by how you do. #4.) I would suggest 10-20 positions per week.
What do you guys think? |

 | | Domdaniel: <CG> It's easy to blow the whistle on an offensive post or kibitz. Not so easy when the crap is in a user's biog or game collection. A certain much-banned 'lunatic' has again exploited this loophole to attack me and others. I know you've had complaints by email. I can't mention his name for obvious reasons. But, as a matter of urgency, could you please remove that bio. I think you know which I mean. You've already wiped all his posts. Thanks. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Domdaniel: <CG> It's easy to blow the whistle on an offensive post or kibitz. Not so easy when the crap is in a user's biog or game collection.> We realize that and in some cases emailing chess@chessgames.com is the only way to really explain the extent of the problem. Anytime the Whistle doesn't cut it, don't be shy to use email. The entire Whistle system might even be overhauled but that's a subject for another day. |

 | | Domdaniel: <CG> Thanks again for sorting it out. There were 'innocent' victims involved, which was particularly nasty. I can only hope you manage to keep him out. On another front - I noticed that, on the Bilbao tournament page, the heading is actually a live link to the official website. Nice touch. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> You are actually the very next in the queue, but with almost a megabyte waiting we feel a bit daunted. Don't worry, we'll get to it soon. <LIFE Master AJ> There is a competing chess site that offers features very much like you are describing that we are interested in offering as well. So many other chess sites have reversed engineered our good ideas; turn about is fair play. |

In conclusion if you're "waring" something inappropriate don't stand on a soap-box. :) |

 | | Phony Benoni: A little glitch in the Opening Explorer. If you search for the move sequence <1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6 6.Bg5 e6 7.Bb5 Bd7 8.Ba4 a6 9.Nxc6>, you reach this position: click for larger viewwhere Black has two moves, 9...bxc6 and 9...Bxc6. However, if you had done the original move search with 9...Bxc6 added in: <1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6 6.Bg5 e6 7.Bb5 Bd7 8.Ba4 a6 9.Nxc6 Bxc6> you are sent to the position after 9...bxc6. |

| Oct-10-11 | | Blunderdome: DOUBLE FORUM REQUEST:
There's an event in Saratov going on right now with Leko, Morozevich, and others, and another leg of the women's GP series. I would link you to the official sites but the former's is in Russian and the latter's is just the page at FIDE. All the usual suspects are covering both events, though, so I'm sure you can get the PGNs somehow, you know better than I do. |
|
| Oct-10-11 | | twinlark: <ceegee>
The Saratov event is hard to track down, as the official sites don't seem to have the PGNs. But WhyChess at http://saratov2011.live.whychess.org/ does. Note that there are PGNs available from each round.
Similarly with the Nalchik PGNs at http://nalchik2011.live.whychess.org/ . |

| Oct-11-11 | | Benzol: <chessgames> I have submitted a number of games by Sven - Goran Malmgren from the 1st WCC Ch. This should have been Harald Malmgren. Can you please correct this when uploading them. Thanks in advance. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Anybody> From time to time we get emails reporting a technical problem, this one is typical: <I can't play any games as I get this message....windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher.> Has anybody had this problem, and if so, is there an easy solution? I'd like to put it in our upcoming troubleshooting guide. <Benzol> Thanks, we'll do a fine-and-replace type correction on your file. No need to upload them again with new info. |
