Thoughts?>
I check the historical posts occasionally. It doesn't help much, since I don't recall many months ago what the conversation was. <whereas I think people <would> actually check those five or ten historical posts of theirs which are on the verge of dropping from their purview.> My suggestion a few years back was a different colored star showing responses to differentiate between new and old responses, ie, a response made in the last 7 days has a red star and then it turns to black.
I assume that's not doable, but if it was, there could be a different queue for posts made and posts responded to. While the posts made rolled off at whatever the birnk is set to, the posts responded to would have the same brink, but based upon most recent responses. Of course, if a post rolled off both lists and <then> someone responded, would that set the post back in the responded to queue? Hmmm, this all sounds too complicated. <Chessgames.com> thanks for what you do. |

| Oct-19-11 | | hms123: FWIW, I use <Search Kibitzing> almost every day. It allows me to <tag> certain of my own posts so that I can find them easily later on. There are other very useful aspects to its use. |

You're gonna have to update Zhao Xue 's biography tomorrow. With all respect, able to provide a possible update toward Zhao Xhu's biography? There also a biography forum for update requests, offer sorrow to not find at moment ~Best, Anh |

 | | chessgames.com: That is wonderful news about Zhao Xue. We normally discourage slanting biographies towards very recent events, but in this case it's a career defining performance that nobody can argue with. <WannaBe> Interesting an unexpected side-effect there, thanks for pointing it out. <whiteshark> No comment :) |

 | | Annie K.: <No comment :)>
Heheh.
<cg> question: do we really, really, need the 'Your Comment Has Been Posted' page at all? I mean, yeah, it's got a cute graphic, and it's tradition, but it's also an extra pageload. Couldn't we just be returned directly to the page we posted the comment to, at least unless something went wrong? :) |
|
| Oct-21-11 | | TheFocus: <Annie K.> has a great point there. Why not just jump straight to the page? |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Guess-the-Move Bugs> click for larger viewThis is the position after 12.Nf4 in Euwe vs Reshevsky, 1953. For some curious reason, the perfectly playable move 12...Qd7 lands me a 3 point penalty here. I know what it says on the GTM help page...
<While Toga is very strong, it's not nearly as strong as most of the grandmasters involved in these games, and it will occasionally make errors in its assessments. Sometimes it will award you only 1 or 2 points when your move is every bit as good as the move played; occasionally you may even receive a penalty for what's actually a strong move. > ...but this isn't that kind of problem; something else is happening here. |

 | | chessgames.com: <SwitchingQuylthulg> I see by your avatar that you are getting all geared up for the Holiday Present Hunt. Good! Now about that GTM game, I suspect you are right, something fishy is going on. Sometimes a move is updated by a correction and GTM is the last to learn about it. Other times the position is so completely flexible that our method of precomputing all reasonable replies doesn't go far enough (in positions which are so flexible that just about anything can be played). I'll investigate the tables to find out. I hope we don't have to wipe out those 21 scores to fix it, but we'll do what we must. <Annie> That's not a bad idea. It could save 5-10 seconds per post, at a million posts a year that could save hundreds of person-hours of labor! The politicians can step aside, I think we've just found the way to get America's GDP back on track. |

 | | WannaBe: It's that big 10GB of PGN coming in from New Zealand that slowed us down. Man, things got so bad, I went next door to talk to my neighbor for 45 minutes. Then I realized no one was home. |

 | | Annie K.: Whew, I was afraid you broke the site trying to implement my suggestion! :s <cg: <at a million posts a year that could save hundreds of person-hours of labor!>> That's assuming everybody here is posting from work? Oy vey. Be sure to apply for a tax break! ;)
I'm going to push my luck - while you're at it, could we dispense with the post deletion confirmation page as well, and likewise return directly to the page? :D
And since I'm feeling a little bad about my part in the destruction of native tradition (mainly that the cute graphic of the post confirmation page would never be seen again...), I'd also like to propose a "chessgames.com museum" area, where such retired pages/graphics could be displayed for the benefit of curious new members, and us sentimental and nostalgic veterans. ;)
OK, I had better get back to work here... ;) |
