  kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com

Is it possible to have the games for the "World Chess Software Championship"

which was won by Hiarcs

http://www.hiarcs.com/Games/wcsc11/...

I may be able to get an interview soon with the Hiarcs Author - Mark Uniacke - and he mentioned his engine although coming 2nd in the championship you do have the games for

"World Computer Chess Championship"

Hiarcs did actually win the "World software championship" - where engines were given equal hardware.

Apparently Anand uses Hiarcs as well. I will try and ask Anand this if I get the chance at the London Classic :)

To clarify there were actually two championships:

Equal hardware championship: HIARCS is 2011 World Chess Software Champion

Unlimited hardware championship: Deep Junior is 2011 World Computer Chess Champion

Best wishes
K

Dec-02-11  Whitehat1963: Hi, <Chessgames.com>, please see my comment on this game: J Boey vs O'Kelly, 1957

You may have a glitch in your Guess-the-Move program.

Thanks.

Dec-02-11  whiteshark: <Antiochus> If I'm not mistaken, <chessgames.com> has created a sub-forum especially for such type of requests: CG Librarian chessforum

Domdaniel: <Antiochus> Whiteshark is not mistaken. In addition, every game in the database features a link where corrections may be made.

There are a lot of errors out there, and you clearly have a talent for spotting them. It would be a shame not to use more efficient channels for helping CG improve things.

  chessgames.com: <WhiteHat> I don't understand, I scored 12 points. What's the problem exactly?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <chessgames.com> <Whitehat1963>'s problem is that the par is low enough the game should appear in the Guess-the-Move: 40 Hardest Games list, but it doesn't. (I'd say that's simply because that list hasn't been updated lately. Exactly how regularly is it updated?)

Talking of the hardest games list, I think it would make sense to have it based on just guessable moves (as opposed to all moves). The #1 "hardest game" only has 2 actually guessable moves! Of course computing the list is much easier this way.

Dec-02-11  Whitehat1963: Exactly.

chessgames.com: OK, about Guess-the-Move: 40 Hardest Games, there were at least two problems.

First there wasn't a decent schedule on when the report was recomputed. It was basically random. That is over now: it is recomputed every day around midnight server time, period.

Second, its metric was OK but not perfect. The main problem had to do with dividing by the number of moves in the game, instead of by the number of quizzed-moves (not including the opening phase which doesn't count.) Now that we divide by the actual number of quizzed-moves, the list changed radically, and for the better.

Anyhow, both of these matters have been addressed. I think we'll find this is a distinct improvement.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <chessgames> Thanks, it's a great improvement, but I think your new list is still somewhat buggy.

I just tried one of the games on this new list (H Porth vs P Kotsur, 2001), given as <29 moves; par 28; 1.04 ppm>, which corresponds to 27 guessable moves. However, the only non-guessable move was move 1, so there were actually 28 guessable moves!

This is the only one I've tried so far - I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there were similar problems with many of the rest. (OK, I just started Guess-the-Move: Benko vs Suttles, 1964, and that also seems to have the # of guessable moves wrong :p)

Also, I know of at least one game that should be on that list but isn't - Reshevsky vs V Petrov, 1937 has 31 guessable moves and a par of 28 for 0.90 ppm, yet it's missing from the list.

Dec-03-11  LIFE Master AJ: I am working on the "Game of The Month."
Whilst doing so, I did a search of: "Tomaszewski," (on your main page) and was directly connected to Roman Tomaszewski.

This is somewhat disturbing ... there is a young man, (24) GM Evgeny Tomaszewski, and he is 2600+ according to his ChessBase profile. (I searched FIDE, http://ratings.fide.com/search.phtm..., but came up blank. However, I know that I have seen his games in TWIC.)

(Russian: Евгений Томашев&- #1089;кий)

He is quite well-known, and won the "Under-18" championships one year.

Hmmm. I may have answered my own question ... I was about to tell you that you did not have this player on this website ... once again, it is a spelling problem.

Evgeny Tomashevsky.

Is there any way that you can offer the "ChessBase" spelling on his player profile?

(You can "Google" this player: https://www.google.com/#hl=en&cp=13.... I also found his FIDE player card: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?....)

If you don't mind, I am going to post this on his player page as well ...

Dec-03-11  LIFE Master AJ: Now this is quite confusing ...

The ChessBase program offers at least three different spellings of his name ...

I enjoy doing research, but I HATE this lack of clarity!!!!!!!!

Dec-03-11  Colonel Mortimer: Well then I suggest you take your hate elsewhere, rather than litter these pages with your simpleton musings.
Dec-03-11  Whitehat1963: <Chessgames.com>, perhaps it's not yet perfect, but it's a huge improvement. Thanks!
Dec-03-11  Whitehat1963: <Chessgames.com>, One more suggestion regarding the Guess-the-Move: 40 Hardest Games list:

Currently, there are 16 games tied with 1.00 ppm. There needs to be a rational way of listing them in order. I suggest longest to shortest, as complexity becomes increasingly difficult with fewer and fewer pieces on the board, and a 30-move game with 1.00 ppm (Ivanchuk-Kamsky) is probably more complex than a 13-move game with the same 1.00 ppm (Tartakower-Bernstein). But other possibilities for listing the ties are chronologically or alphabetically. As always, thanks for your efforts. And again, the recent improvement is greatly appreciated.

Dec-03-11  Whitehat1963: <Chessgames.com> or by the number of times the Guess-the-Move game has been given. Frankly, I suggest a game not appear until it's been played at least 10 times, or at least 5, rather than the current 3.

Domdaniel: Chessbase is good in many ways, but its spelling of Russian and non-European names has a German-language bias. <AJ> may have noticed that Korchnoi and Yusupov are given in Chessbase as Kortschnoj and Jussupow.

Therefore adopting their spelling/transliteration from Cyrillic as a standard here - in a broadly anglophone website - is not a bright idea.

'Tomaszewski' is a Polish version; 'Tomashevsky' is probably simplest in English.

I rather like ambiguity, though. Without ambiguity, research might be finite, and then what would we do?

<LMAJ>, meet the Librarian: CG Librarian chessforum. A highly-qualified database/informatics expert, she will, I'm sure, be pleased to address your problems in that area. She spells real good too.

<CG Librarian>, meet AJ Goldsby I, an *original* USCF Lifemaster. But you can call him AJ.

Have a good time now, y'hear? And those librarian admin powers will be useful if AJ or any of his little pals burst into flames.

Annie K.: <cg.com> a suggestion I keep forgetting to post here, so while I remember: as in the default random example, User: Colonel Mortimer ... ;)

I would like to recommend that you change the term 'User' to 'Member', for a somewhat less negative connotation. :)

The term 'Inmate', of course, is also a valid option. :p

Dec-05-11  matebay: On second thought, CG nevermind. Fischer is a nutcase anyway...What do you expect but the same kind of horde to flood his page...birds of the same feather flock together. C u!

Um. I think the game begins at 11:00AM. Please check this page for proof: http://www.londonchessclassic.com/c....

Dec-05-11  matebay: CG, <lamont> is back on the Fischer page. Wasn't he in forced exile...Well he is back from destierro and the rejuvenated Fischer page is once again facing the looming threat of black death...His accomplice <the focus> is sinking in his own excrement...the page has turned into a fischerandom comedy of sorts.

Your help badly needed to restore normalcy to the times...

Dec-06-11  King Death: <chessgames.com> With all respect, I submit that the problem on Bobby Fischer's page isn't <TheFocus> or even <lamont> and his pseudo poetry. It's the poster above who's pointing the finger at the two of them.
Dec-06-11  matebay: I stand guilty as accused.

Hit me!:http://youtu.be/99jB2Pj7Yzo

It's chesscube's fault. Always emptying my shillings and cubits...then seducing me to subscribe via paypal...

I would not succumb to their ploy..so due to my inability to play online, here I am policing CG games for the benefit of chessgameshood...Nobody ever ceased and desisted tpstar to perform sentry duty...why would anybody stopped me and my noble intentions?
