Yifan Hou needs a new photo, the one up there is years old and doesn't quite look like her anymore. I noticed at Yifan Hou vs Judit Polgar, 2012 that the Gibraltar organizers let you use one of their photos, any chance they'd give you another, or let you crop that one for Yifan's page?

Penguincw: Hi <cg>. This issue is regarding the ChessBookie Game. It's been on for days now. Anyways. In the event, Aeroflot Open Rd3: PICK THREE, the winner is Black-<Draw>-Draw, not Black-<Black>-Draw. If you need further proof, please check the following links:

On point - could not have chosen this (by you linked) exemplary commentary any better. Obviously I still have got a lot to <un>learn.

Regardless of sac'ed piece for optical advantage/entertainment value.

Good Evening.

  chessgames.com: <LMAJ> <I just played "Guess-The-Move." (Johner-Capa, like 1939 - I think.) I scored like 117, I guess. (I navigated away from the page, but could not get back.)>

Just so you know, you can look up your previous scores from here: Guess-the-Move: Review all Your Scores

<I typed in (6.) "...Nc6" and much later, "NxP/h2." In both instances, this was the CORRECT move, however, since I used the wrong format, I did not get credit for the overall score.>

When it comes to "NxP/h2" obviously the software will not understand that any more than if you typed "horsie takes rookpawn", but regarding "...Nc6" I suppose you are saying that you actually typed in the three periods?

We know that not everybody is fluent in algebraic notation, so that's why GTM also accepts "mouse input" where you simply click two squares to designate your move. But if you want to type in your moves, you to choose between modern algebraic and long-algebraic.

There is a section in the Guess-the-Move Help Page page that describes the three ways to input moves:

<The first method, and surely the easier one, is to click on the board diagram. Simply click on the piece you want to move, then click on the square you want to move it to. Once you click on the second square, your move will automatically be sent to our server and then you'll see how it scores. It's that easy!

The other method is to type your move. When it is your move, a space immediately below the game board will appear (see graphic above). You may either use standard English Algebraic Notation (e.g. Ng5 or Bxb5+), or you can use Long Algebraic Notation (e.g. e2e4 or f1b5). You should not type the move numbers (e.g. don't type "3.d4", just type "d4"), nor should you type "..." before a move by Black.>

Yes. But it's fixed now. Thank you. :)

Feb-11-12  dakgootje: <We know that not everybody is fluent in algebraic notation, so that's why GTM also accepts "mouse input">

It's not that.

I'm just too lazy to type in the moves :)

That's what those androids from Alpha Centauri said. I still think teaching humanoids chess was a mistake.

Feb-12-12  hms123: <chessgames.com> Will there be another Team White vs. Team Black game soon? Or perhaps a World vs. GM game?

I did NOT know this ... this might be the easiest way for me to do it. (Just click on the squares, what could be simpler?)

Thanks for the page with the scores on previous visits to "Guess The Move," I had never seen that page before, so I put it into my header.

Thanks for the feedback, yes I was taught that you ALWAYS put three dots before a Black move (that was the correct way of distinguishing between a White move and a Black move) ... but that goes back to the 1960's, when I first started playing chess ...

Feb-13-12  Blunderdome: So if I upload an image to the avatar gallery it's available for anyone else to use, in perpetuity, whether I like it or not?
Feb-13-12  hms123: <Blunderdome>

<So if I upload an image to the avatar gallery it's available for anyone else to use, in perpetuity, whether I like it or not?>

In a word: Yes.

In an few more words: The admins will try to give you a heads up on the image being available so that you can claim it before someone else does. If you ever decide to switch to another image, then your original image goes back into the pool. If someone else claims it first (unlikely), then you can ask them to release it to you. people are pretty good about it on the rare occasions when it occurs.

WannaBe: I think I've read before, that if are a prem. member first, and then upload the image, e.g. <FSR>, the admins will just give/assign it to you.

No one else will even have a chance to 'claim' it. No cyber-squatting on avatars.

chessgames.com: <Blunderdome: So if I upload an image to the avatar gallery it's available for anyone else to use, in perpetuity, whether I like it or not?> More or less. From time to time we've had somebody upload a photograph of themselves, and then when they let their membership lapse the photograph was back into the general pool. Fortunately people tend to not grab up things like that, and we try to remove stuff like that when we see it.

We wouldn't mind migrating to a system where everybody can upload their own graphics... provided that a few bad apples don't ruin it for everybody by uploading offensive images.

Yes there will, and it's time for a "special game". For instance we've had a few Fischer Random Games and we could continue that tradition. However somebody called recently for a correspondence thematic which sounds like a fine plan as well.

Stay tuned, and we'll figure something out.

Feb-13-12  cro777: <chessgames> It would be nice to start with thematic matches. They are effective way of chess improvement.

Not in my experience. Daniel sent me an e-mail advising me that the avatar I had sent in (i.e., the one you see now) was now available, and advising me to grab it. I did - not that I suppose there would have been a horde of people wanting to claim my visage.

Also, is it possible for the next GM game, to include odds (e.g. pawn) or would that be too unfair?

Feb-15-12  Nemesistic: <chessgames>If you would kindly look at the posts made by Mr goldsby prior to my above post, i think you'll agree that <JW>'s post is not in violation of any rules and i was just defending him. I dont see what rule iv'e personally broken anyway by posting the above!

Mr Goldsby has designed a webpage insulting his detractors, and has proceeded to post a link wherever i, and certain other users post, all over your fine site on some great game pages too..

I don't wish to complain but Mr Goldsby does single me out to complain about, even though he has many people telling him exactly what i tell him.

This is the first, and last time i'll complain here, i have no desire to add to your workload.

Thanks for your time..
