 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Just use plain Vartanovich. There's no one else called Vartanovich in the database :-) |

 | | Fusilli: <switch> Nice trick :-)... although in that case I might as well use the dropdown menu, which is bullet proof. We were trying to figure out what to do if a player is not on the dropdown menu... |

| Mar-04-12 | | hms123: <Fusilli> If you type in <Petrosian, Tigran Vartanovich> without number of moves, you get this disambiguation page: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... with just various Tigran Petrosians <Your search on the name PETROSIAN TIGRAN VARTANOVICH returned the following player listings: Player name (rating) # games years
Tigran L Petrosian (2649) 347 1994-2012
Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian (2645) 1948 1942-2012
Tigran A Petrosian (2383) 12 2001-2004> Specifying the number of moves gets this page: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... with some non-Petrosians included.
I think this is a problem above my non-existent pay grade. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Fusilli: <switch> Nice trick :-)... although in that case I might as well use the dropdown menu, which is bullet proof. We were trying to figure out what to do if a player is not on the dropdown menu...> In my experience there's seldom any need for it, but one can do the same search with someone who <is> in the dropdown menu and then replace the player ID in the URL :)
A bit slow but it gets the job done. |

| Mar-04-12 | | twinlark: Thanks for posting the results of the 4th Batavia Chess Tournament (2012). You've only posted the results of 7 rounds however, instead of the full 9 from this round robin event: http://batavia1920.nl/chess/results... |

| Mar-04-12 | | brankat: The "Probation" is about to be lifted :-) |
|
| Mar-04-12 | | DrNyet: Regarding the Player Directory, I've often wished there was a search box to type in the first few letters of a player's last name to speed the process (as opposed to having to click on the first letter to bring up another page, on which the list is still quite long). |

 | | Stonehenge: <DrNyet> I use Ctrl F. |
|
| Mar-05-12 | | positionalgenius: Indeed <brankat>... its going to be interesting. |
|
| Mar-05-12 | | TheFocus: It will be interesting to see who squawks the loudest. (I have a good guess though.) Me? I'm going to keep a low profile.
The war is over, and I urge the Troop to let it go. The pages here have been a delight to read while we were suspended. Let US keep the peace. |

| Mar-05-12 | | playground player: <TheFocus> Your statement is... magnanimous! |
|
| Mar-05-12 | | morphyphan: I would like to request the puzzle of the day use the 'guess the move' technology and have leader boards for the week and month and year...with points and prizes! And to play the 'guess the move' through to the end of the game from the puzzle position (AND in the game of the day, from start to finish)--with ranking and chessgames.com ELOs. And THEN to goto the game's page for kibitzing. |
|
| Mar-05-12 | | morphyphan: For the kibitzing, says 'delete'!? Shouldn't this be changed to 'Edit' or 'Replace' to then choose to edit, replace, or delete. Maybe replaced with a replaced count. :) thank-you. |
|
| Mar-05-12 | | morphyphan: Would like to be able to use Stockfish 2.2.2 for 'guess the move' as is (for now) highest rated free open-source Elo engine available on the net. Have also heard good things about Critter and Komodo. Could these be made optional as well? Thanks. :) |

 | | Domdaniel: In any case, you can *already* edit a post before sending it. I'm routinely amazed by the number of people who seem to skip this stage, and simply hit the 'kibitz' button with their errors intact (and possibly their emotions running high). Take your time, check your posts for mistakes (or things you might not want to own up to in the morning) ... and only then send it on its way. And you still get a period of grace in which to delete the whole thing. If you often want to edit-and-repost, then keep a copy. Or compose your piece in another application. There are many workarounds. |

 | | WannaBe: <Domdaniel> That's way tooooooooo logical and obvious for simple folks like us. |

|
Mar-05-12
 | | Domdaniel: <WannaBe> - < Delete previous post, delete, delete, dang, how do I delete?!?!?> Depends on the level of tech. Try looking up and saying "delete that, computer" or "that didn't happen, okay?". Or hit the 'backspace' key. |
