 | | chessgames.com: The homepage is recomputed every so many minutes (5 I think?) where Recent Kibitzing Page is updated instantly. Plus the homepage has a few rules designed to prevent a one-person posting spree from dominating the entire list. |

| Jun-11-12 | | twinlark: Hi <ceegee>
<<Albena Masters> aka <Golden Sands> aka <Grand Europe Open> Golden Sands (2012)> Not quite. The link I posted you had been updated by the time you got to it, and the Albena Masters replaced by Golden Sands. This link should clarify, you'll see the two tournamants reported side by side: http://www.armchess.am/archive_main...
Apologies for not posting this earlier, but I had to leave town in a hurry. |

 | | Annie K.: <hms> oh, he knows more than that, much, much, more... Uh, speaking of chess, I wonder when all those improvements we've been discussing for the Kibitzing Search will be implemented...? No hurry, of course. ;) |

<I heard it can be dangerous to know too much... ;).> Sorry. Can't answer that: Top Secret. |

 | | chessgames.com: <twinlark> Oh I see, that makes more sense. I was starting to think "Golden Sands" was the name of a hotel or something. Thx. |

| Jun-12-12 | | Benzol: From The Biographer Bistro :
<<chessgames.com> <Of course we know we won't get every number filled in overnight, but the good news is that our software that imports FIDE data will never become confused by the "other" Vladimir Malakhov ever again, so I'll never have to edit Malakhov's rating by hand again.>> Does this mean that you'll be able retroactively to weed out games that have been placed in the incorrect playerfiles as well? |
|
Jun-12-12
 | | chessgames.com: <Does this mean that you'll be able retroactively to weed out games that have been placed in the incorrect playerfiles as well?> I wish it could, but the games already imported have to be dealt with as-is. Perhaps I overstated the situation when I said "we'll never mix up the two Malakhovs again"--I meant, in the context of the rating-update file from FIDE, and some other contexts as well. Some PGN includes FIDE player numbers, and we are in the process of making our software suddenly become sensitive to this information. So this fix could eliminate that kind of problem in the future, but it doesn't help us much with what's already been done. Thanks. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <LoveThatJoker> Seek, and ye shall find: Samuel Sevian |
|
Jun-13-12
 | | LoveThatJoker: <Phony Benoni> I appreciate it, man! I actually did seek originally:
I typed in Sevian in the search box, but all I got was an Armenian player and no selection based on last names - as is the case when you type in a very common last name in the search box. Try it and you'll see that what I'm saying is right on! Thanks a lot for getting me the direct link!

 | | Phony Benoni: <LoveThatJoker> Ah! That explains it! Personally, I always use the Advanced Search and would not have noticed your problem. |

 | | LoveThatJoker: <Phony Benoni> Thanks, man! I will most definitely starting using the advanced search for these kind of situations in the future! LTJ |

LIVE FROM MOSCOW
The Metamorphosis: Kramnik - Kramnikamura - .... :) |

| Jun-14-12 | | Open Defence: Hi, you might want to consider opening up the live game page for kibitzing as soon as its done, currently it remains closed even after the game until you put up a new live page |

 | | chessgames.com: <Kramnikamura> That sounds scary! <Open D> You're right; we try to do that but all-to-often forget. |

 | | chessgames.com: This should make <twinlark> and others happy: Albena Open (2012) Fun tournament; we're using one of its games for the Friday puzzle. For some reason the final rounds aren't available (round 9 and some of round 8). Hopefully they show up. The official PGN link seems to be http://www.armchess.am/pgns/Albena.... |

| Jun-15-12 | | twinlark: Hi <ceegee>
Thanks for downloading the Albena Open.
BTW, I like your innovation of installing an extra field into the bio edit field so biographers can include a player's FIDE ID for all the reasons you stated. Just a small and not very important question. Above the bio this field manifests as: <FIDE player card from www.fide.com > Do we need more than these self-explanatory first three words as the last bit (with the link, which is inadvertent) seems a trifle redundant. No biggie. |

| Jun-15-12 | | Open Defence: might I suggest a <Harry Potter> chess set for the <store>, the kind Ron, Harry and Hermione play with in the < Sorcerer's Stone> ? I know my daughter would love one |

 | | Annie K.: <Deffi> have you seen Silman's write-up on that chess scene? http://www.jeremysilman.com/movies_... <cg> I wonder if that link could belong somewhere around here. Possibly on Silman's page, or the Jovanovic - Manzardo game mentioned on the page, that isn't in the database? Jovanovic - Manzardo

 | | chessgames.com: <trifle redundant> Our Dept. of Redundancy Department agrees with you. These are the kind of HTML questions that come up routinely. When done "properly" the link is visually a bit out of place compared to the other links, which all a link and then some explanatory black text. It looks like we got lazy on one link by skipping the black text. You might say the real problem here is that "FIDE card" really needs no explanation, and so it's doomed to be the odd-one out. We even considered making a cute little "FIDE Card" graphic, but that would just confound things even more. Anyhow, we'll figure something out. It's a very important link and perhaps should get higher placement than the "let-me-google-that-for-you link" which has always been a bit silly. |
