 | | chessgames.com: Also noteworthy, we uploaded Turochamp (Computer) vs Kasparov, 2012 that was just played yesterday (moves discerned from the video of the event). After some consideration we decided that we will NOT merge Turochamp (Computer) with Alan Turing, although the argument could be made. |

| Jun-27-12 | | Benzol: <Phony Benoni> <<Benzol> Number of games submitted is interesting information, and I wouldn't mind seeing where I rank (somewhere in the Top 40, hopefully).> <Phony Benoni> I am also curious about kibitzer uploads other than my own and I'm sure you would be better than Top 40. However, in view of <No, not just for the drawbacks already mentioned, but the only mechanism for counting is a clever combination of Unix commands.> I don't want anyone having to jump through hoops constantly just to satisfy my curiosity. Occasionally, yes, but constantly, no. :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <Jim Bartle: On the Rogoff page, Chessgames deleted a number of off-color posts.> Right. <I'm wondering, did you also delete the two posts by ... > Jim, I had to delete your comment because we are no longer going to tolerate people coming here and complaining about specific users breaking rules. If you believe they violate our guidelines you are probably correct and you can submit a Whistle complaint for our review. <By the way, I'll I did was quote Michele Bachmann, ... It was others who ran with it.> Yes, we noticed that much. Please don't think that you've fallen out of favor with us because one of your posts got deleted. Just a routine clean-up on aisle 5. |

| Jun-27-12 | | brankat: <chessgames.com> Is the Bookie on his vacations? The spring leg ended on June 18, it's been 9 days since. In the meanwhile two great tournaments took place n Russia. So many good betting opportunities wasted :-) |

 | | WannaBe: Let's bet on Germany/Italy game tomorrow, what's the early line? Germany -200 Italy +180 (??) Or we can bet on (a) future, Spain (-120)/Germany (-120) or Spain (-300)/Italy (+250) =) |

 | | chessgames.com: The Bookie will be back soon and gives his regards from the Bahamas. |

 | | Annie K.: Heh!
<cg> have you overlooked the question in my last post about puns submitted during the contest stage? :) |
|
| Jun-27-12 | | Jim Bartle: No problem. I understand the "individual complaint" policy. |

 | | chessgames.com: Hi Annie, sorry I wasn't sure how to address this: <Incidentally, is there any way I can see my list of pun submissions from the contest period? I can see the list of puns I submitted later, but not those initial ones.> I don't know why you wouldn't see the initial ones, unless there's some kind of bug going on. It's obvious, but let me point out that any pun which is actually used is removed from the list, since there's no point in voting on it any more. Sometimes this happens with puns that we're planning on using in the future, too. I know I just deleted one of your puns recently, not because it scored poorly, but because we love it. I wanted to improve upon it by finding a different game, and after 30 minutes of hunting I settled on the game you picked :) |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> heheh, I just visited my Pun Submission Page, so if it's one of the more recent puns, I know which one you mean - thanks! :D But that seems to be the problem - I can currently see 3 puns on that page (minus a fourth that I notice is gone, I'll assume that's the one you mentioned), but I can't see the 90 or so puns I submitted during the contest. I know of 6 that made it to GoTD, and I may have missed a few, since I don't check the GoTD every day, and I probably don't remember every single pun I submitted, and maybe I wouldn't even recognize them if I saw them... but that should still leave 80 or so, or maybe 50 or so (minus the major clunkers). ;) The "original" list of puns disappeared from that page when the pun contest ended. So if they *are* supposed to be still listed there, then there may be a ... feature ... going on? ;s |

 | | chessgames.com: I'll look into it. You've got me curious now. We've always been extremely paranoid about deleting pun submissions (even the lemons) so I doubt anything has been lost. |
|
| Jun-28-12 | | brankat: They do not have computers in the Bahamas? No concept of a gambling addiction? A need for a (quick) fix? :-) |

| Jun-28-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: I haven't kept track, but I am sure I have submitted 1000+ games over the years ... |

 | | Phony Benoni: I seem to recall that the current Pun Submission Lists started anew after the contest was over, and this kibitz seems to confirm that. chessgames.com chessforum |

 | | chessgames.com: <Phony Benoni> Ah! Of course, thank you for reminding us. In fact that explains the existence of this "Pun2" table which appears to be nothing more than a very old back-up of the original Pun table. So now to answer Annie's question, we have the original data and wouldn't mind publishing a gigantic list based on it. (With the names withheld, to protect the innocent.) As tpstar pointed out, even among the bottom-of-the-barrel puns, there are diamonds in the rough. Sometimes somebody has a brilliant idea but executes it horribly. Just like in chess! |

 | | chessgames.com: ♔ In other news ♔
Varuzhan Akobian has accepted our rematch. We're still are checking our schedules and the chess-calendars to figure out exactly when and how the game will take place, but I'm guessing it should start in 4-6 weeks or so. He's looking forward to the rematch and I'm sure you all are as well. We'll make an "official" announcement about this when we have the details hammered out. |
|
| Jun-28-12 | | hms123: <cg.com> The Akobian news is great! Thanks. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg: <So now to answer Annie's question, we have the original data and wouldn't mind publishing a gigantic list based on it. (With the names withheld, to protect the innocent.)>> Way kewl! =)
But also how about each user being able to see their own initial submissions list as well, on a different page from the "current" submissions maybe? The data could come from your backup table, and there could be a link to the "archived pun submissions" included in the puns intro text and/or on one's current submissions page. With the general list (if sorted by "rating"), I'd be able to see how my puns are doing, but I'd need the personal list to tell, after all this time, which 80 or so of the puns on the larger list were mine... ;s Thx <Phony>! :) |

 | | Phony Benoni: Just noticed the Administrative Game Editor for adding rounds and dates. <CG Librarian> must be smiling! I'll have to start updating games from a few of my collections just to try it out. |

 | | Annie K.: Heeey, that's great news! Congrats all around. :) |

Jul-02-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> <Administrative Games Editor> seems to be working properly, and it's a wonderful enhancement that will improve the appearance of the database. Like they always used to say, AGE before beauty. One quick question: some of games currently have a round number with a leading "0", such as "03". AGE accepts either style. Is there a preferred one? Would it help if we changed the "0x" round numbers as we run across them? |
|
| Jul-02-12 | | crawfb5: <PB> Is the <AGE> only available to the favored few, or am I missing something somewhere? |
|
Jul-02-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <crawfb5> I thought I had it because I was a biography editor. Maybe I should have just gotten to work and kept my mouth shut until the official announcement, if any. |
