 | | WannaBe: The next Winter Olympiad is in 2014, and next Summer is 2016, yeah, I'd say it's a bit early for a forum. |

| Aug-18-12 | | AylerKupp: Since <pkkandel> decided to draw your attention regarding his post on the chessgames chanllenge (which I thought was odd; what action did he wish or expect from you?), I decided that I should draw you attention to my response to his post: “I think that the practical problem of not allowing the use of computers is one of enforcement. We would be bound to the honor system but at the moment we have 766 players on our team, with hopefully more to join, and all it takes is one player to be a little less than honorable and that would hurt the image of the game. And the temptation to use computers to assist, particularly if we fall into a poorer position is great. And even if we didn’t actually use computers, if all of a sudden we were to recover from a poorer position via a series of strong moves, that would raise the doubt and give the appearance that some of us may be using computers to assist. And appearances are everything. Proving that computers were not used would be difficult and very time consuming. So, unfortunately, we’re probably stuck with allowing the use of computers in games like this. But I share your feelings. I wish there was a way to have a game like this one and easily ensure that neither side was using computers. Maybe some day, but I don’t think that this day is here yet; With regards to the 20 move long variations it’s true, the game usually does not go that way. But there are some exceptions; in the The World vs N Pogonina, 2010 the final position was anticipated by several analysts months before the game ended and many moves before it actually happened, and it was also anticipated by Natalia Pogonina herself. But, while a long variation is not likely to happen, the evaluation given for any move is based on the evaluation of the position at the end of that long variation. And, since all computer generated variations <MUST> be reviewed and verified (computers – shock! – are occasionally wrong), it would be impossible to do so without posting the entire long variation. And, while everyone is different, I feel that my game and my understanding of the game, has improved by reviewing those long variations, trying to figure out why the computer played a certain move, coming up with alternatives that they computer may have overlooked (yes, they will, OF NECESSITY, sharply prune their search tree and overlook the vast majority of possible moves).” Just information, nothing more. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> just curious - is today's GOTD my pun, or not? :D I'm pretty sure I submitted a 'Judge Judy' pun during the contest, but I can't remember if it was for this game or one of Judit Polgar's games. |

Time to give GMVA a wake-up call... |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Annie K> Perhaps this one was yours? Judit Polgar vs Anand, 1999 |
|
Aug-19-12
 | | Annie K.: <Phony> heh, thanks, I believe I went with 'Judy' rather than 'Judit', and I'm not sure either way. :s Hope <cg> can clear this <very important> matter up! ;) |

 | | chessgames.com: We grabbed the Judge Judy pun from the "pun backlog" file that we linked to not long ago. I just looked it up to see who originally suggested it. Sure enough, it was submitted by <Annie K.> |

 | | chessgames.com: <Judge Judit> on the other hand was an idea by the prolific <severus6>. |

 | | chessgames.com: <AylerKupp> ... <Just information, nothing more.> Well stated and thank you. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> Then I get to add it to my list of GOTDs for the famous "Bragging Rights". ;) Thanks!! =) |

 | | OhioChessFan: The advertising sidebar "Wartunes-You Deserve an Orgy Today" is not acceptable and I'm disappointed to see it on this site. |

| Aug-20-12 | | Tomlinsky: <The advertising sidebar "Wartunes-You Deserve an Orgy Today" is not acceptable and I'm disappointed to see it on this site.> I agree <OCF>. There's far too much promotion of war based fantasy corrupting the minds of our youth these days. |

| Aug-20-12 | | pkkandel: While using "Random Game" feature, every time it leads me into a game where there is no kibitzing. Is it your intentional approach to highlight a hidden game or only my bad luck? |
|
Aug-20-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <pkkandel> That may not be too surprising, considering that only about 15% of games have kibitzing. ChessGames.com Statistics Page |

Aug-20-12
 | | chessgames.com: <pkkandel> Phony Benoni's analysis sounds about right. You are however correct that the random game feature is not 100% random--but wrong that it tries to steer you to games without kibitzing. If anything, it tries to steer you towards older games, and also games that are not drawn. (This is only a *slight* bias placed there intentionally: otherwise the odds of getting a Lasker or Capablanca game would be vastly outweighed by the deluge of FM/IM-level games from the past decade.) Any game is possible, some are just slightly more likely than others. The algorithm doesn't care about kibitzing, game collections, GOTD status, Guess-the-Move, or anything like that. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Wartune update> We can't find the offending ad in the Google network anymore--even though we just saw it with our own eyes yesterday. We suspect that they had the ad yanked by Google or perhaps retracted it voluntarily after receiving complaints. If anybody sees the "orgy" ad again please let us know. |
|
Aug-20-12
 | | chessgames.com: Also, please understand that we don't hand-approve every ad that appears on our site. The Google ad network runs hundreds of ads on CG at any given moment, and they have people hired to weed out salacious advertisements which are in fact prohibited. Every now and then one slips under their radar temporarily, but for the most part they run a pretty tight ship. |

 | | chessgames.com: Really? OK thanks for the info, we'll take care of this. |
|
| Aug-21-12 | | WinKing: <chessgames> we(The World) would please like permission to add an 'Analysis Tree' link to our 'sticky'. The link is in our forum posted by <jepflast>. I did not copy the link here as I was not sure if GM Akobian would be able to see it. |

 | | chessgames.com: <WinKing: <chessgames> we(The World) would please like permission to add an 'Analysis Tree' link to our 'sticky'.> That's perfectly reasonable. Just email me the link and I'll take care of it shortly. By the way I think that absurd Wartune ad should be truly gone now, please let us know if I'm wrong. |
|
| Aug-21-12 | | WinKing: Thanks <chessgames> for allowing us to post the 'Analysis Tree' to The World team's 'sticky'. |

 | | Tabanus: Hi <cg> maybe it's been asked before, but would it be possible to add a 'rating filter' to Opening Explorer? So that one could use it on 2400+ games only, or 2500+ games. Or CC games or games played after 2000, for that matter. |
|
Aug-22-12
 | | chessgames.com: <Tabanus> Possibly one day. Before you see that on the Opening Explorer we'll have to implement it in the general search. |
|
Aug-22-12
 | | Tabanus: <cg> Yes I see, thanks. |
