| Sep-05-12 | | Colonel Mortimer: <Mark> Not taking sides here - but I do know that your detractors must certainly be enjoying 'getting to you'. Just ignore them, delete offending posts on your forum, and stop giving them the incentive to upset you - the only reason in my opinion why they continue. Simple problems require simple solutions:) |

| Sep-06-12 | | MarkFinan: <chessgames.com> Ok, I've tried with the filippino's...
I then login here and see my name mentioned over and over and over, they're getting as obsessed with me as they already are with Wesley So now!! But In totally different ways! I've told them "Stop mentioning my name and talking about me and I won't post on this page", but they won't, so I'll take that as a sign they actually want me there! And, before you delete this can I just say to Colonel Mortimer, I did reply to your above post yesterday mate, but It got deleted and I couldn't reply In your forum, because you don't have one now..
It basically said, I agree :) |

| Sep-06-12 | | Memethecat: Just had my 1st go of Guess-the-Move in a long time, & I was quickly reminded of its frustrating quirks. I got the chance to show off my outstanding skills on the 2nd move, I was black, P Troeger vs Tal, 1960. <1.d4 f5 2.e4> I've never played the Dutch so had to think about it, after several mins I decided on 2...fxe4, mouse clicked my f pawn then mouse clicked whites e4 pawn, seemple's. AND THE COMPUTER SAYS:
<You actually play fxe4>.(yes! I know) <Sad face favicon>
<No points awarded for exf5>.(I agree, there shouldn't be any points for exf5, for starters, I've got nothing capable of taking f5, secondly, f5 is my own piece, thirdly, its impossible, it may as well of said: <No points awarded for exa holiday in the south of France> ) |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> not sure whether I should bring this up here or at the Bookie's, but since it's a site maintenance thing, it may belong here. I'd like to ask / suggest, that the Bookie's standings be recomputed at the end of the betting day, and not put off until the following morning. By then everybody had placed other bets, the positions are up in the air again, and there's a sense of irrelevance to the standings. Right after the bets are paid off, is when we'd like to know where we stand. ;) Would that be possible? :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <meme> I have to assume you misclicked on the destination square--but you are right, it's an annoying quirk that GTM will let you play an illegal move then penalize you for it. Keep in mind you can type the move as well (Nf3, dxc6, etc.) if you find that easier. <Annie> The situation is that once a day the script gets run that recomputes the leaderboard, and for no particular reason it's scheduled to happen at around 3:00am. The Chess Bookie has the power to force it to recompute, and sometimes he does, but he's kind of lazy ;-) The problem with running it "at the end of the betting day" is that time can be just about anything, depending on which events are taking place. Perhaps the best approach is to just pick a time that is more likely to be useful, like 5:00pm EST. |

| Sep-06-12 | | whiteshark: At Chess Olympiad (Women) (2012) you have 14 games of Amina Matoussi after only 9 rounds. ;) However the Tunesian Women Team has <Amani> Matoussi (1581) and <Amina> Matoussi (1789). http://results.chessolympiadistanbu... I'd guess you cross-checking algos disimproved it in good faith and now you have to fix it manually. :D |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> thanks. :) 5:00pm EST sounds like a much better time! And if additionally the Bookie could remember as often as possible to make the list recompute when he's done with the payoffs, I think we'd all be deliriously happy. ;D |

| Sep-06-12 | | dakgootje: <And if additionally the Bookie could remember as often as possible to make the list recompute when he's done with the payoffs, I think we'd all be deliriously happy. ;D> Certainly. I'm just back from running around the block laughing like a maniac. People looked a bit worried, so I explained the chessbookie leaderboard had updated. |

 | | Annie K.: <dakkie> very sensible. Don't worry, they'll get used to it in a while. :) |

 | | Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com>: An update and a quick question: the Chessgames Editors have now added date and round information to over 100 tournaments and matches: Game Collection: Historical Tournaments 1: Fully Updated One of the year-end Hastings events has been done, and a large number of corrections were submitted for year changes. Do you have any news yet about giving the Editors the ability to change years as well, as mentioned here? chessgames.com chessforum |

<You guys have added over 4,600 fide ID numbers since the feature was first launched. Considering only a few dozen activate volunteers editors are working on this, that's mighty impressive. I'd like to thank everybody who's helped amass such important data so quickly.> Thanks, do you know the new 'score'? 10,000 perhaps? |

chessgames.com: Small format change:
If you link to a Wikipedia article in a biography now it will automatically show up as "Wikipedia article: _______".> Perhaps you can make it so that the player name in the link is always readable, for aesthetic reasons? Links like we have here: Tudev Ujtumen look rather ugly. |

| Sep-08-12 | | Octavia: It always takes me ages to find the playing zone - what is the easiest way at the mo? |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | Memethecat: <Octavia> I've bookmarked this page Chessgames Playing Zone |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | hms123: <Octavia> <Memethecat> The easiest way is to go here: Menu Configuration Page and at the bottom of the page enter this:
Chessgames Playing Zone http://www.chessgames .com/perl/live?sessionID=2393526569.51613 (You will need to take the space after chessgames out of the string. You can name it something other than Chessgames Playing Zone if you wish.) into the box marked <Extras>. The link will then appear at the top of (almost) every page you are on. Click and you're there. |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | hms123: <Octavia> <Memethecat> Here are the instructions:
<EXTRAS: The Extras section below can contain other links to be included on your menu. These can be pages at Chessgames, or they can be sites outside of Chessgames. The syntax is the name of the site, followed by the URL to the site. You can have as many links as you want, one per line. For example, if your "extras" contains
Fischer Robert James Fischer
TWIC http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twi...
then one of your menu options will be a link that says "Fischer" (taking you to the Bobby Fischer page at Chessgames) and another will read "TWIC" (and it takes you to the website The Week in Chess).> You do, of course, have to click on the <Update> button below the <Extras> box. |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | Memethecat: <hms123> A more elegant solution. I've renamed it Graham, not the solution, the link I mean. |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | hms123: <Memethecat> Always glad to help. |
|
| Sep-08-12 | | Octavia: <hms123> thanks !!! Unfortunately the link didn't work for me - after a few trials. |

 | | chessgames.com: Octavia, which link doesn't work for you? Here is a quick rundown: • Chessgames Playing Zone is the page you want, not "officially announced" quite yet but you are welcome to go there and play. • Please note that Silverlight is required to be installed to use the Playing Zone. See Playing Zone Help Page for more info. • Our Menu Configuration Page allows you to configure your top-of-screen menu either by clicking on/off next to presets or by typing URLs directly into the "Extras" section. (More details on that page). |
