 | | Annie K.: <cg> hmm, check out reference #4 on Alexander Petrov's Wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexan.... How does that happen? :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <Karpova> It is a shame that there is more joking around on Keiseritzsky's page than actual discussion of the great master. Note however that it's all been spread across many years, and it's undeniable that Felix had quite a noteworthy monicker, so I guess people will always be making jokes about it. Anyhow, the off topic posts are noted, and if anything there really bothers you please submit a whistle. <Antiochus: Match Granda v Mecking> Great, thanks! Last year there was (allegedly) a match between those two and we never were able to get the PGN or even find out the result. Glad to see them get it together this year. <Annie K.: <cg> hmm, check out reference #4 on Alexander Petrov's Wikipedia page ... How does that happen? :)> Oh my, that certainly wasn't intentional. We love Wikipedia and apparently they love us as well, we would never want to block them. My guess: remember a few months back when we were being attacked by tenaciously fast web spiders? We temporarily blocked a handful of IP addresses to mitigate the server load. It's possible we placed Wikipedia on the list by accident. I wish I knew how to force Wiki to do a refresh on a page. They probably force a check on a regular schedule anyhow. Anyhow, thanks a lot for pointing that out. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> you're welcome - thought you might want to know about it. Another oddity was that the link is actually pointing to the wrong player page. Maybe one of the Wiki editors here could help out with fixing that. :) On a related subject, are you intentionally blocking the WayBack Machine's spider too? Personally, I think it can be useful to let that little bot help with the backup work. ;) |
|
| Sep-15-12 | | crawfb5: <Annie> Fixed, although that reference was for the mention of the match with Journoud, so it actually <was> the correct player page. I added an external link to Petrov's page below the references. Of course being Wikipedia, there's nothing preventing somebody else from changing it again before you have a chance to look at it. :-) |

 | | chessgames.com: <the WayBack Machine> Currently no spiders are being blocked, but similar to wiki there was a period of time when we were unwittingly blocking it. We wish we hadn't done that, but there's nothing we can do about that now. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> Recently, I submitted games in which I knew the year and month, but not the exact day. I entered the Date field as: <1899.07.??>
This seemed proper, as it's often done in biographies. I have since learned the full dates. The games have just been added, and when I went to complete the date I saw that the year on the PGN now appears as <0000>. An example: J D Tresling vs A Van Foreest, 1899. I still have the template I used, so I'm sure this happened after submission. I have sent in correction slips, but thought I would notify you in case a date field such as I used was causing a problem. And it just occurred to me right now that perhaps the proper form in this situation was <1899.07.00>. Think so? |

Sep-15-12
 | | chessgames.com: Hi Phony, I wasn't aware of that bug--I thought that our import routine was very robust to accept all manner of dates, including ones which are downright incorrect. Your format should work just fine. We'll look at the code and try to figure out what went wrong. Fortunately it should be a simple matter to locate and fix these. Thanks for the correction slips. |

 | | Stonehenge: <CG> I'm missing Hans Bouwmeester in the 'Happy Birthday To' Department. |
|
Sep-16-12
 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge:> Some time ago we added a rating threshold because the list of names was getting absurdly long. Bouwmeester effectively was being punished for remaining active (his current FIDE rating < 2400). We added him by hand, though, and do wish him a happy birthday. <And please delete the sexist comments here...> Oh that's so immature, and on a teenager's page as well. In the future however, please do use the Whistle for things like that. |

 | | Stonehenge: OK, thank you :) |

| Sep-16-12 | | master of defence: <chessgames.com> I´ve submitted two games to this site, and you didn´t accepted it yet. Why this? |

| Sep-17-12 | | Benzol: <chessgames.com> <The queue is several weeks long; we appreciate your patience.> Try months rather than weeks.
:) I'm still waitang for Gary Lane vs Antonio Krstev 2003 North Island Ch to show up. That game was submitted before I started in on the historic tournament upgrades at least two months ago. |

 | | Phony Benoni: I hesitate to mention this, but all the games for World Junior Championship (Boys) (2005) and
World Junior Championship (Girls) (2005) give the name of the city as <Instanbul>. At least it's not Connstanntinnople. |
|
| Sep-18-12 | | Jim Bartle: Instantbul: Isn't that what thrives on the Fischer, Rogoff, So, Carlsen, etc. pages? |
|
Sep-18-12
 | | chessgames.com: Instanbul? We have a utility called typofixer just for such occasions. We used it before on "Londen". |
|
| Sep-18-12 | | Benzol: <Jim Bartle> <Instantbul: Isn't that what thrives on the Fischer, Rogoff, So, Carlsen, etc. pages?> Jim you're thinking about the related "Instant bull". Just open a can and pour on your keyboard before typing. |
|
| Sep-19-12 | | dakgootje: < Instanbul? We have a utility called typofixer just for such occasions. We used it before on "Londen"> We silly Dutchies call London 'Londen', so that might've been the reason. Think we are one of the few, perhaps the only besides Afrikaans, language with that specific form. On the other hand, I doubt whether any language uses Instanbul :) |
|
| Sep-19-12 | | shivasuri4: <chessgames.com>, Svidler has been replaced by Adams in the FIDE Grand Prix, as per http://www.chessdom.com/london-fide... . Please indicate the same on the homepage. |

| Sep-19-12 | | Robed.Bishop: I was playing Guess the Move, Tal v. M Pasman, 1953 (and no, I'm not here to post my score), when I clicked on what was probably the last move and I was sent to an "Error 7077 Malformed diagram page." I triple checked my move to ensure I wasn't entering the move wrong. This isn't the result I was hoping for... |
|
Sep-19-12
 | | chessgames.com: <Robed.Bishop> Thanks, of course that's not supposed to happen. Maybe the game used to be one move longer. We'll investigate. |
|
| Sep-20-12 | | Robed.Bishop: Thank you. But please don't embarrass me in front of all these people by telling me that my score was so high that it broke the machine. |
