 | | chessgames.com: <rapidcitychess> Let me repeat what was posted on Mamedyarov vs Gelfand, 2012: <chessgames.com: We previous reported that it was a rest day in London. This is not true. We apologize for being misinformed--the FIDE Women's Grand Prix has a rest day, but the London games will start at 9:00am USA/Eastern (2:00pm London time). Hope to see you then!
The Anand-Aronian game from Sao Paulo will start at 3:00pm USA/Eastern.Tomorrow should be a busy day for chess fans, hope to see you all here!> So in short, you are right that Anand vs Aronian, 2012 will take place tomorrow at 3pm (USA/Eastern), and you should be able to post it to just fine. However we will ALSO show the London Grand Prix starting at 9am, which is still restricted to premium members. In summary: we are showing two live games tomorrow: one that only premium members can watch, and the other one open to the world. They both should be great fun. |

 | | chessgames.com: <ughaibu> We thank you very much for your help, but I have a feeling you've been around here long enough to conclude "those error correction slips never get processed". I admit, that used to be the whole truth of the matter. But now we have somebody whose primary job is to tend to them, and they really do work. Give it a try! Thanks again. |

Thanks for the answer, and more thanks for the game. |

 | | chessgames.com: After an investigation we have concluded that the "error 7077" from Guess-the-Move should be very hard to replicate after the recent round of fixes. If anybody can manage to get it please show us the game. |

| Sep-28-12 | | Shams: <cg> Round 1 of the Poikovsky is currently under way. Any chance we could get a tournament page? The lineup is quite strong. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Shams> Our apologies for not being on top of that--we'll have it set up in a jiffy. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> While updating the information for games from the collection Game Collection: Interzonals 1973: Petropolis, <Benzol> noticed that one of the games was from a different tournament. The actual game is in the database. Unfortunately, the owner of the collection, User: capybara, has not been on the site ror about eighteen months, so there seems a good chance the collection may never be corrected. Do you anticipate that errors such as this will be correctable once the historical tournament pages are constructed? Or would it be a better idea to build a new collection for the tournament? By the way, the gang over in Biographer Bistro has updated information from over 150 tournament collections, a total of nearly 15,000 games. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Phony> A point which may be a little hazy: once a Game Collection is used to normalize the database, the tournament isn't literally "tied" to the collection in some sense. For instance, if the owner of the collection adds a game to their collection it will not automatically pop-up on the tournament page. They are even free to delete their collection--but it thankfully won't effect the tournament page. So of course, if it's discovered that the original Game Collection was missing a game, or an extra game, or whatever the problem is, the normal correction-slip process should take care of the details. So in the case you mention, we would have you submit it as it stands but then make sure to submit a correction slip at the same time, to take care of the one outstanding game. Now if there were more problems with the collection, a number of missing games, mistakes, duplicates, or what-have-you: then the argument could be made to just redo it from scratch. I suppose we have no choice but to take it on a case by case basis. Of course we would like to think that every game collection is perfect, but from time to time we'll make sensible exceptions. From what I can see on capybara's collection, it would be a shame to redo all that effort, so it would be one of those exceptions. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> I think I've got that. Once the historical tournament page is constructed, corrections will be possible using the correction slip process. (Looking at a current tournament page, I see this is in force.) So in this case we should make a note of the needed correction and submit it once the tournament page is created. Sounds good. Thanks for clearing that up. |
|
| Sep-29-12 | | Benzol: <chessgames> Can you just clarify. Is it easier for you to correct the mistakes before the tournament collection gets it own page or after? A case in point is the 2nd Piatigorsky Cup collection. Originally I was just going to update <matey>'s collection but upon examination found it was shy by some 20 games. Hence a redo seemed to be in order. However, one of the games, this one Unzicker vs Ivkov, 1965 had the wrong year date and was missing a great number of moves. I have submitted a correction slip about it. Will this be dealt with later after a tournament page has been created or is it better to deal to it before that stage? |

| Sep-29-12 | | Blunderdome: Some time ago User: LoveThatJoker suggested that CG supply solutions to the daily puzzles. I'm paraphrasing here, but in your reply you said that aspect of the puzzle was more or less up to the users. Enter A Naumann vs F Kroeze, 2009, where the note to 21...Bxg2 reads "21...c3!! " This is a fine practice when the game line isn't the line you considered to be the solution, but 21...Bxg2 also wins! Since the players agreed to a draw in the game, many kibitzers assumed that ...Bxg2 was inferior. Perhaps they assumed anything with two exclamations points had to be right... Fritz is also pretty excited about 21...Bg4, but I haven't looked that over yet. |

| Sep-30-12 | | Colonel Mortimer: <LIFE Master AJ: Someone asked me recently why my games were closed for kibitzing. I guess the best answer is that D. Freeman is an idiot, and they cannot find a reliable way to control the trolls.> This is unacceptable - can someone deal with this nuisance poster once and for all? |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | Benzol: <Colonel Mortimer> Why <AJ> insists on wanting to play hopscotch in a minefield is beyond me. |

| Sep-30-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: As many times as you have violated the posting rules H3/Col. Wart ... you have no room to speak. |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | Colonel Mortimer: You owe Mr Freeman an apology. |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: Natalia Pogonina is the current (ladies) champ, I believe ... I do not know who is responsible for updating her status/page. |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | hms123: <LIFE Master AJ: He also made a big mistake ... when he threw me in with the trolls.> Yes. You are making it obvious that he should have done it sooner. |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | MarkFinan: Andrew, I've had a few harsh words from Mr Freeman In the past, but I've actually found him to be quite a fair guy once I spoke to him, and definately not "heavy handed" at all..
Maybe you should apologise for calling him "an Idiot"??
And by your own admission you've been telling your "friends" not to join this site for years anyway, so I don't think too much custom will have been lost If anyone has actually listened to you..
That Is what you we're trying to do, lose this site business, right???
"Hopscotch In a minefield"... Sounds about right. |
|
| Sep-30-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: BTW, after all the ABOMINATIONS ... that I have seen lately ... (The Fischer page, the Rogoff page, the Wesley So page, etc.) ... my comments should not even raise an eyebrow. |
