 | | Check It Out: <Annie K.> & <Alien Math> Thank you. I'm using Internet Explorer and haven't had any other issues with it to date. But something is strange. Even now the word Internet Explorer is hyperlinked. My wife is more computer savvy than I am so maybe she can help. |

| Nov-28-12 | | kellmano: <check it out> I had that a while back and if you google search you can quite easily uninstall some ad program. It's quite funny, when you do so it implies that it is a bit upset you are uninstalling it and asks why you didn't enjoy the service. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <CIO: I was reading an <OCF> post at the POTD just now and noticed a hyperlinked word, the word "bet". I figured it was to another post having something to do with his comment.> Hmmmmmm. I need to look into this. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Viewer Deluxe> OK, you've convinced me, we're going to make the CVD2 the default viewer and leave the old version around just in case. We actually had a report from somebody who believed that their browser was "crashier" with CVD2 but singular reports of such a vague nature aren't very credible. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Check It Out: <CG> I've been noticing hyperlinked words here and there in various posts. ... What's going on with these invasive hyperlinks?> <chessmoron: A few days ago, I experienced what <Check It Out> is talking about.> Oh dear, that's bad news for the both of you. It's definitely not anything we've done to our site--it's almost certainly some kind of malware that somehow has been installed on your systems. Or as Annie K puts it, you've "picked up something nasty." What's more, this kind of behavior is so very common among malware that based on that description alone we can't even say exactly what you've got, or even if the two of you have the same thing. I have to suppose that these links appear for you on many websites--not just Chessgames--although you haven't mentioned that. (You do visit other websites, right? ;-) In principle, there could be something about our HTML that makes the malware "prefer" our pages over others. Please be aware that removing malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking and we're no experts on the subject. However, here is one piece of advice which is relatively harmless: if you notice that the links appear in a particular browser and no others, then it's likely that the malware is some sort of plug-in that is installed in that browser. The solution therefore may be to <disable ALL your extensions then add them back one at a time until you find the one causing the issue.> If you are willing to take extreme action, you can uninstall the entire browser and re-install it from a fresh download, but be aware that this will wipe out your bookmarks, cookies, and so forth. If however you see these links across several browsers then you're probably looking at a different sort of animal which is monitoring all of your web traffic and possibly even your keystrokes: a much more dire situation that rises above the level of a nuisance. Whatever the case, keep us posted and best of luck. |

 | | chessgames.com: About the Chessgames Playing Zone :
We've been holding back on announcing this "officially" due to one final bug that has yet to be resolved: the concept of "mating material" with regards to the clock. Apparently it's possible to lose a game on the clock even if your opponent has a naked king. (As any blitz player knows, that should be a draw.) If you're willing to suffer with that bug then by all means feel free to use it. We hope that shortly we'll be able to get that fixed and announce it as an official site function. |

A correction in the header information for Sergey Karjakin: Karjakin is the 2012 World <Rapid> Champion, not the Blitz champion. The Blitz champion is Grischuk. FYI. |

| Nov-30-12 | | Benzol: <chessgames> Don't know if you've been following the happenings at the Biographer Bistro and New York 1924 but regarding the historical tournaments what are your thoughts on the spellings and pronounciations of player and cities names? I think the editors could do with some guide lines about this. |
