chessgames.com: <shivasuri4> Thanks for that clarification. The truth is we copied it from another source which actually said "Brahman [sic] priests"--that struck us as rather odd, but then again so is the purported myth of "the 64 golden discs". We changed the spelling to Brahmin.

Can we please have a forum for the <2012 WORLD MIND SPORTS BLITZ>?

WOMEN -> http://www.chessbase.com/news/2012/...

Thanks

Dec-18-12  shivasuri4: <chessgames.com>, it still says <Brahman> priests on my screen. Perhaps you'd be better off removing the trivia. :P

On another note, could we please have a forum for the Airport Authority of India (AAI) Cup, a category-18 double round robin? http://www.business-standard.com/ge...

Thanks for posting the Kolkata Open!

Dec-21-12  MostlyAverageJoe: Dear <CG>, could you please transfer 1 year of premium membership from my account to the Rinus Scholarship (rinus chessforum)?

Thanks in advance!

Dec-21-12  achieve: Hi <chessgames> Yesterday an initiative was sorta launched to create a release valve, a "take it outside" might be the way to decribe it, by pointing out to interpersonal quarrelers to stop running over the, in this case, Carlsen page, and in effect, to "take it outside."

For this to take effect <Schwartz>'s and my suggestion is to use the Argue page.

A minute ago I posted a proposal/request to this end at the Carlsen page, and would appreciate your input/feedback on it, improvements, any suggestion...

Thanks!

  chessgames.com: <MostlyAverageJoe> Sure, thank you!

<Annie K.> Thanks, we were hoping you all would enjoy that.

<achieve> Personally I think it's a great idea but getting other people to cooperate can be another issue. Often somebody offers their chessforum for such purposes, but nobody bites. I hate to sound cynical but sometimes the participants in these affairs go to pages like Carlsen's precisely because they want the biggest audience possible.

Dec-21-12  achieve: <CG>: - <Personally I think it's a great idea but getting other people to cooperate can be another issue.> Knock-on-wood it seems to work handsomely, as the spam/quarreling so far has been kept off the Carlsen page 100%!

<Often somebody offers their chessforum for such purposes, but nobody bites.> Well, I in fact did that, in the past, to settle something, or mediate in a dispute, and it worked quite a few times.

<I hate to sound cynical but sometimes the participants in these affairs go to pages like Carlsen's precisely because they want the biggest audience possible.> Perhaps with an added note or action from someone of your "weight" it might lead to a sort of extra "unwritten rule/guideline" to take off-topic bickering more or less immediately to the Argue page? At a minimum it can be moved there (or deleted), later... I'd say give it another thought or two; we may have stepped in something good.

Dec-22-12  whiteshark: <ceegee>: The last eight games (rd 7+8) of Snowdrops and Old-hands (2012) are missing.

An Englishman: Good Evening: I don't understand the explanations to two of the puzzles, #52 and #62, because they refer to numbers indexing, a concept that is completely beyond my poor old brain's comprehension. What does that mean?
Dec-24-12  Blunderdome: I'm not in favor of the Argue page. Take a look at it. Many of the posts are offensive and downright hateful. Some users already seem to think it's been sanctioned as an unmoderated, anything-goes forum.

If they need to take it outside, why not let outside be another website?

chessgames.com: <Blunderdome: I'm not in favor of the Argue page.> OK, you make a sensible point. We will revisit this issue shortly.

<MostlyAverageJoe> <HEEEELP!> It was our fault, but no worries--we've got your back. It's been adjudicated in your favor. The logfiles never lie.

<An Englishman: Good Evening: I don't understand the explanations to two of the puzzles, #52 and #62, because they refer to numbers indexing> I shouldn't be discussing this sort of thing while the contest is in progress, but it just means--for instance--if you have the name "Clark Kent" and the numbers (1,7) then you take the 1st letter (C) and the 7th letter (E). It was a recurring theme this year.

<notyetagm> Great idea, here you go:

World Cities Team Championship (2012)

Dec-24-12  achieve: <Blunderdome: I'm not in favor of the Argue page. Take a look at it. Many of the posts are offensive and downright hateful. Some users already seem to think it's been sanctioned as an unmoderated, anything-goes forum.> Would you rather have had these posts at the Carlsen page?

They do not belong on <any> page.

<Many of the posts are offensive and downright hateful.> Which is a violation of the posting guidelines, and should not be allowed. Simple as that, just like any other page on CG.

<Some users already seem to think it's been sanctioned as an unmoderated, anything-goes forum.> Which dumb users would that be, then? Of course it is not an "anything goes" forum, and anyone having trouble understanding that might benefit from having it explained.

<chessgames.com: <Blunderdome: I'm not in favor of the Argue page.> OK, you make a sensible point. We will revisit this issue shortly.> The initiative has been very successful sofar - just read the comments on it on the Carlsen page - and a case of a few bad apples posting hateful and mannerless poat trespassing the posting guidelines does not make the forum itself a bad idea.

It was conceived to serve as an outlet for ongoing want-to-have-the-last-word "discussions" - preferably in a civilized manner, and for that it is perfectly usable. People thinking that they can say there anything the want should have their head checked, and be reprimanded by an admin, just as it should be. And always was.

Dec-24-12  achieve: To put it more concisely:

The Argue page has been hugely successful, and the fact that people "think" they can make a mess of that page does not make the idea and concept a failure; quite the contrary.

Just take out the really bad apples and you have a winner. The Carlsen page is like a breath of fresh air now; add to that a sanatizing gust of wind through the Argue page, and the success can - and will - be a prolonged one.

OhioChessFan: IMHO the Argue page is a great success. I agree with <blunderdome> that its first week has been the good manners equivalent of the Wild West, but I think with a little bit of guidance and some time, things will settle down a bit.
