So this means that you can trust Chessgames to not hack your system, but we can't make that promise for other sites. So this means that if you can configure Java so that *only* "whitelisted" websites like Chessgames can use Java, you can use it safely (even without the recent security patch). We are working on an FAQ regarding this latest Java problem, and perhaps we can make a guide on how to do whitelist Chessgames. We know that pgn4web has several drawbacks although for the time being that's the only non-Java program we can offer. In a nutshell, the problem is that Java can be used to do bad things to your computer, but only if you visit a site that maliciously gives you "bad Java code" to run. So of course you can trust Chessgames to not maliciously try to hack your computer but if you visit any sites other than Chessgames (and most of our users do), then Java may be a vulnerability.
