| Mar-28-13 | | The Last Straw: Hello <cg>
It looks like at Uncommon Opening (A00) there is an error. 1.b3 appears to have ECO (A01), not ECO (A00) |

 | | chessgames.com: <The Last Straw> Yes you are right; upon further inspection the error is in our description of A00 and not how games are categorized. We'll fix that shortly. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> the site is quite slow today. Just sayin'. ;) |

 | | Stonehenge: Make that *very* slow. |
|
Mar-31-13
 | | WannaBe: I also experienced some speed lag at 6:15AM Pacific time, but I guess'd it was due to the amount of chess fans coming to CG.com. Which is, of course, great news for y'all. =) Now, at 10:05AM Pacific, speed is pretty much back to normal. |

|

 | | WannaBe: It's only about 1000 actual user, the other 2000 are sock-puppets. |

 | | chessgames.com: <About 3,000 people online now. New record?> I would't be surprised. The server was severely bottlenecked today. Good news: we'll be having a hardware/bandwidth upgrade soon. |

 | | Annie K.: Wonderful news. It's great that so many people come here; even better if they don't find a slow site when they do. :) |

 | | Phony Benoni: I don't know if this is significant, but I had access problems at the end of each of the last three rounds of the Candidates, just as many users would presumably have been leaving the site at the same time. |
|
Apr-02-13
 | | OhioChessFan: I did too <PB> although I think a few thousand people refreshing the live game was the problem. |

 | | chessgames.com: New topic:
<Battle of the Brains: East vs West> We have a Battle of the Brains coming up shortly, and if we just swap colors from Bob3 I'm sure it would be great fun, but here's another idea: let's make this one "East vs West". "Team West" would be anybody in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, and so forth. "Team East" would be the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia ... basically any place that isn't "West". The logistics are a little tricky because we would have to ask each new entrant to the game which team they belong to. Another concern we have is that one of the two teams would be grossly oversized compared to the other. Anyhow, assuming it could be arranged effectively, we think it would be a great match-up which might stoke some rivalry in a good way. |

 | | WannaBe: OK, N. & S. America vs. World. Cool.
I don't know how this would work, logically, or programming wise, but the IP, (barring proxy) should tell you where they are from... Or, we do the 'traditional' East-West, Europe + N. & S. America vs Asia + Africa + Oceania Countries. Apologies to Antartica, you are not invited. |
|
Apr-02-13
 | | OhioChessFan: The vast majority of users are from the Americas, so Europe has got to be included in the East. |
