SwitchingQuylthulg: <WannaBe: Plus, he knows everything!!! Including how to respond to 125. Qe2++ in E34!!>

Yup. A queen move can never be a double check, so I'll call you out for making an illegal move :-)

OhioChessFan: I am not the only person who sometimes uses ++ for mate, so I will accept the Wabbit's move as legal.
Apr-03-13  hms123: <chessgames>

Let me put in a vote for keeping some version of the current <BOB> system. I like the idea of getting to know people from around the world through the Team games.

Either swap colors or start over with a new alternating assignment system. The <BOB> games are a favorite because the teams are generally small and you can get to know people well.

  kutztown46: I agree with <hms123>.
Apr-03-13  Open Defence: <BOB> you could have a liberals versus conservatives but that would replicate the Rogoff page....
Apr-03-13  hms123: <deffi>

<you could have a liberals versus conservatives but that would replicate the Rogoff page....>

That would never work--almost everyone who posts there is a reasonable moderate who only operates on clear facts. They would all be on the same team seeking the truth at all times.

Apr-03-13  arun.pulak: i have been visiting CG.com for over a year now and i regularly go through the POTD although i kibitz less. for the past few days i am unable to view games in mistybeach or in the default setting as well although i see the raw pgn. please suggest some general solutions as this might be a problem with my internet as well. i will report back if the problem persists. please help!

chessgames.com: <arun.pulak> First of all, please see our Viewer Help Page which may clear up some confusion. After you review that page, I would suggest you visit http://www.java.com/ and download/install the newest version, then possibly you may have to enable Java in your browser. Also, "Misty Beach" is not a very popular choice, have you tried "Chess Viewer Deluxe" instead?

chessgames.com: <hms123: Either swap colors or start over with a new alternating assignment system. The <BOB> games are a favorite because the teams are generally small and you can get to know people well.> I know what you are saying but it seems a semantic point. We don't have to call the alternate assignment "BOB" -- in fact it's probably best we don't -- we would call this "the East vs West Challenge" and then the next time we have a computer-prohibited match it would be BOB-4.

Before anybody gets their hopes up, this whole East-West idea is just a consideration. We may very well just go ahead with BOB-4 in the normal fashion and save the East-West Challenge for some other day.

Apr-03-13  hms123: <chessgames.com> It's not what it's called, but more whether you want to encourage interaction across country of residence/origin.

How about <Carlsen fans vs. Anand fans>? That might be fun and should divide up relatively evenly. You might add a third category of folks who don't care that much and are willing to be assigned to either team to keep the numbers balanced.

WannaBe: Boy, that can get fun, but how about these:

Religious v. Atheists
Sock Puppets v. Real Members
Prem. v. Non-Prem.

etc.

Tabanus: <cg> Perhaps my identification of William Alexander Lindsay (1846-1926) can be crowned with a picture of him? Here is a good (IMO) one:

http://www.clanlindsay.com/20070215...

I believe it is taken around 1910 (= age is 64). The picture is from http://www.clanlindsay.com/william_..., and labeled "Lafayette London" (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_...).

Wikipedia says: <While thousands of images were credited to Lafayette studios, only those 649 photographs which were registered for copyright bear his signature as author. These are now held in the Public Record Office> - which is now part of the UK National Arcives (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/).

Send 20 bucks to CG admins.

Apr-05-13  arun.pulak: <chessgames.com>thanks a lot for your suggestions. i am seeing the games now, however, without doing anything. i do have the latest java because i program in java, so that could not have been a problem. i reckon some network problem probably. i will switch to chess viewer deluxe.

OhioChessFan: A couple of quibbles regarding searches:

1. When I click on the "chessforums" link, I might be searching for some particular forum. I will find a list of the most recently posted to forums, but maybe not the forum I really seek. At the bottom of that page, however, I'm greeted with a box labelled "Search Chessgames.com kibitzing". Surely the box I find on this and every other forum page, "View another user profile" is more appropriate there.

2. If I want to search the site, I have a self created link up top, namely Search Kibitzing Another way there is to go to the link at the bottom of every page, "new kibitizing" and I'll find the aforementioned search box on that page. But surely searching kibitzing is worthy of a direct link at the bottom of the page.

Apr-05-13  technical draw: <chessgames.com> Thank you for the compliments.
