| Apr-30-13 | | Benzol: I've come in late for the posts at this juncture. Can someone bring me up to speed and tell me what on earth is actually going on here? |

 | | OhioChessFan: A spammer dropped at least 100 duplicate posts all over the site last night, including on this forum. Once CG.C removed them, the comments about the posts looked strange without the context of the spam. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> any chance of getting a bigger favorites list? :) <chancho> no, that post (I saw it) looked like an actual spambot, for once. ;p |

 | | chessgames.com: <<cg> any chance of getting a bigger favorites list? :)> Seriously, 200 isn't enough? You must be like Roy Rogers! Sure, we'll look into raising it. |
Apr-30-13
 | | Annie K.: Thanks! Yeah, seriously, mine is full, and I'd like to add some more. Admittedly, I tend to use it more as an "interesting people I want to keep an eye on for various reasons" list, rather than necessarily just actual "favorites"... but it's very useful, and could use some more slots. The membership has been growing, after all. :) |

 | | chessgames.com: OK I think we can boost the limit. By the way, I meant to say WILL Rogers, not Roy. ("I never met a man I didn't like.") |

| May-01-13 | | Eyal: There's an error on the home page in the summary of the Grand Prix: <Topalov was in fine form, winning by a full point and a half (8.5/11)>. Point and a half is correct, but he scored only 8 points. |

| May-02-13 | | YouRang: In <Annie K.> recent request to lift the limit on the number of "favorites", she said, <Admittedly, I tend to use it more as an "interesting people I want to keep an eye on for various reasons" list, rather than necessarily just actual "favorites"... > Her comment prompts me to make a related request (one I've made before) to allow users to specify different colors for each person in their "favorites" list (or equivalently, allow multiple favorite groups, each with its own color). The different background colors for different users can be useful for classifying other users however you like. I might have one color for 'interesting people', one for 'people I'd rather ignore', and another color to just identify my own posts. The "favorites mode" feature in each forum could then be enhanced to show posts by *subset* of people in your favorites list -- chosen by color group. |
| May-02-13 | | hms123: <YouRang> That's an excellent suggestion. I, for example, often use the favorites to keep track of people who have interesting <game collections>. |
| May-02-13 | | YouRang: I just noticed a funny quirk:
I just tried each of the different 'favorites' colors, but the only ones that seem to work for me are gold, yellow, and blue. When I choose one of the other colors, the 'favorite' posts just appear as black on white. However (here is the funny part), if I switch to one of the colors that don't work and then do a screen capture, the color shows up fine in the captured image, even though it looks black & white in my browser. I just tried it on IE9, Opera, and Chrome, and they all exhibit the same behavior. Are other people able to see all the colors (like pink or green)? My recollection is that these other colors used to work... |
| May-02-13 | | hms123: <YouRang> I can see the other colors on my browser: Google Chrome, Windows 7, 64-bit. |
| May-02-13 | | hms123: <YouRang> One odd thing: the colors appear as selected on forum pages, but not on the chessforums page Recent Chessforum Activity That page has pink at the moment, where the individual forum pages are currently blue. |
| May-02-13 | | YouRang: <hms123> Thanks. I think the colors are working correctly for you. It looks like the chessforums page alternates the color backgrounds (between white and yellowish) to distinguish lines, so I wouldn't expect it to observe your favorites color. ~~~
Anyway, I think I figured out my problem: My primary monitor isn't showing colors well! I happen to have two monitors hooked up, and when I drag the browser to the other monitor, the other colors show up fine! My primary monitor is supposed to be the good one. I'll play around with it. BTW, when I was copying the screen captures earlier, I was pasting them into Excel - which I happened to have open on the other monitor, giving myself the illusion that screen captures work and the browser doesn't. So, please ignore the bit about colors. They work okay and it has nothing to do with screen captures. Nevermind, false alarm. Grooaan. |

| May-02-13 | | hms123: <YouRang> I hate computers. Why aren't they perfect like we are? |
| May-02-13 | | dakgootje: Because then people would start falling in love with their computer - which would be a bad thing for overall population stability thereby causing widespread famine and war. It's for our own safety. |
| May-02-13 | | The Last Straw: <chessgames.com> If A.J. Goldsby gets to have all the kibitzing on his games disabled, why can't we disable kibitzing on the Wesley So and the Magnus Carlsen pages? As far as I see, there has been a lot of flame wars on those pages. |
| May-02-13 | | The Last Straw: Oh yes, and almost all of the kibitzing on the Kenneth Rogoff has barely anything to do with the player. Can we also disable kibitzing there? |
