Could this game be added to Guess the Move? V Malakhov vs Carlsen, 2005 The problem is a message that blitz games can be added only by an Administrator, but this is Carlsen winning after a loss, so it is important for the move he found to neutralize the opponent. They played many games that day. I was able to add the first won by Malakhov, where IM Watson says the problem is Bc5, and this second one was won by Carlsen, who played a new move Bf8. So it is important to have both for those who study this opening.
Dec-11-13  MostlyAverageJoe: Hi, CG. Happy 12th!

Now some gripes.

<Regarding Klu#7>

"Nieśmiertelny" is the masculine form of "immortal". Polish word for chess game, "partia", is feminine. The Klu should've been "Nieśmiertelna" (see, for example, http://www.gabo.hi.pl/szachy/niesmi...).

<Regarding Klu#8>

This player: Magnus Carlhammer is really this player: Magnus Carlhammar, and, consequently, clue#8 is hammered.

The prize-winning game M Marovic vs M Carlhammer, 1990 is the same as what is elsewhere seen as Mato Marovic vs Magnus Carlhammar, e.g., http://www.365chess.com/view_game.p...

  Domdaniel: <CG> A number of annotated games in the database have notes, taken from original sources, which are still in descriptive notation. This is especially true of 19th century games. Is it possible to translate these to algebraic?

  chessgames.com: <birthday wishes> Many thanks, and you deserve credit yourselves. We never would have made it this long if it wasn't for all of you.

<technical draw: Heck, I'll just write my new email here: [...] Chessgames make the according changes.> OK, we got it TD. By the way, if you missed the Christmas Newsletter you can still read it here: http://www.chessgames.com/newslette...

<ooda: Hi I just want to make a suggestion - the site is fine to use on smartphones except for one thing - the board is a real struggle to view games well with> Great suggestion. We are very interested in converting our pages into a "mobile friendly format". Thus far we've only converted one, the live game broadcast page, but we have plans to convert the game pages and then the homepage as well.

<Blunderdome: Any hope of removing Nimzowitsch vs Systemsson, 1927 from the Notable Games section of Aron Nimzowitsch? He neither played nor composed the game, as I understand it.> Oh, I never thought of that. Perhaps the code could exclude any game which is labeled as "composition/analysis". On the other hand, is it really so bad that it shows up there? In a way, it's a honor to be parodied, and people interested in Nimzowtisch would surely enjoy playing through that spoof.

<MostlyAverageJoe: Now some gripes. "Nieśmiertelny" is the masculine form of "immortal". Polish word for chess game, "partia", is feminine. The Klu should've been "Nieśmiertelna"> Not knowing a thing about Polish I will have to take your word for that, and deflect blame to Google translator. <This player: Magnus Carlhammer is really this player: Magnus Carlhammar, and, consequently, clue#8 is hammered.> Oh, that's a shame. We were so amused at the name we had to make a clue around it. The librarian will have to make the necessary merges now.

<davide2013: First of all congratulations on the 12 years! Could this game be added to Guess the Move? V Malakhov vs Carlsen, 2005 The problem is a message that blitz games can be added only by an Administrator> Thanks, and sure, we'll add that very exceptional blitz game.

<Blunderdome: Maybe separate forums for the open London tournament and the 16-player pool-play-then-quarterfinals-etc. event?> We've already begun.

<Domdaniel: A number of annotated games in the database have notes, taken from original sources, which are still in descriptive notation. This is especially true of 19th century games. Is it possible to translate these to algebraic?> We strongly prefer to see them translated into algebraic. Could you show me some examples of these descriptively notated games? I was under the impression most of them were already converted.

<MarkFinan: Have a word with user [...] or I won't be responsible for what I do. I asked you months ago to speak to that moron… Thanks> Please keep such discussion off of this page.

Dec-12-13  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

Can we please have a forum for the <2013 SPORTACCORD WORLD MIND GAMES> event, which started today in China with Aronian, Mamedyarov, MVL, etc. ?

Dec-12-13  gauer: Hi guys, and happy (belated) birthday! Does PGN Upload Utility support figurine algebraic upload notation like this: 1.e4 c5 2.♘f3 ♘c6 3.♗b5 ♕c7 4.♔e2 ♖b8 (as in the way mobile hiarcs can output with a switch, which is different from your way of making figurine fonts appear in braces like these } and { - I also wanted to see if this format of a font could show up as being supported in the kibitzing areas)?!

With any luck, interested parties might be able to continue to enjoy/manage those extra game collections that someday might be converted to tournament pages (or is there a worry about keeping a limited number of collections once a biographer's premium membership may have to lapse)?!

  chessgames.com: <1.e4 c5 2.♘f3 ♘c6 3.♗b5 ♕c7 4.♔e2 ♖b8 > Wow, that's an awesome trick! Are those characters widely compatible or do a lot of users see white boxes (question-marks etc.) there?

Anyhow, the answer is no--none of our software support these characters, although it probably should. Maybe we should be using them on output too—we should try to estimate how widely supported they are.

  Annie K.: <cg> I just ran the page across 6 browsers (Opera, FireFox, Chrome, Safari K-Meleon, and IE8 - the latter 2 may not be the latest versions, as I never use them) over Win XP. They all work, although in some browsers the figurines aren't very clear.

Anyhoo, kewl! This, at least, can be copy-pasted without losing the figurines (although personally I still prefer simple letter-notation) - and what's even better is, that if you'd stop using the {} signs as site code, it would be much easier to paste PGN with comments in it here. :)

No worries, <Lille>hammer isn't spelled 'Lily' either. You have the right to remain consistent. ;)

Don't forget the Guess-The-Move page! =)
