| Apr-15-14 | | Blunderdome: Hey, there's going to be a Gashimov memorial tournament next week. Some people you've heard of are playing. Hope it's on your radar. |

| Apr-16-14 | | thomastonk: I've just searched the player Aaron Alexandre by typing 'Alexandre' on the starting page. The result or response contains a lot of players having 'Alexandre' as first or second name, but only Jorge Alexandre with this surname. Since I often search lesser known players (whose first name is unknown to me), I would like to understand cases like this, i.e. the search is not successful, although the player is in the database. And is there any other possibility to decide whether a player is or is not in the database? Thank you in advance! |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <thomastonk> The problem is that there are too many players called "Alexandre"; only the top 42 (of course!) results are shown, sorted by the Chessgames Star of Megaimportance and rating. Aaron Alexandre, who doesn't have either, is too far down the list to make the cut. Adding extra search parameters can help; for instance, if you search for Alexandre games played before 1900 you only get six games, five by Deschapelles and one by Aaron Alexandre. Also, as a premium member you can download the entire database and search for all players named Alexandre :) |

| Apr-16-14 | | LIFE Master AJ: I have been able to view the CVD on Chrome ... this does not help at all, as I detest Chrome and try to use it as little as possible. (I also have heard that it is easier to hack Chrome as compared to MSIE.) |
|
| Apr-16-14 | | thomastonk: <SwitchingQuylthulg> Thank you very much! Your explanation is what I conjectured (including the 42). Players, who get an asterisk in the list, are shown always first, and the others seem to be sorted by rating. Preferring family names would help in case of my friend Aaron Alexandre, but not for all those named Schmidt or Lopez. Restricting the years with "no later than" or "at least" will give 2x42 in the best case, and improves chances considerably. |

 | | chessgames.com: <I have been able to view the CVD on Chrome ... this does not help at all> Actually AJ, it's a great help from a diagnostic perspective. Now we know that your problem is on the browser level. It proves that you do have a new version of Java on your machine, your control panel whitelisting works, and so forth. There's no need for you to worry about installing new versions or deleting old versions. Now the question boils down to: what setting in MSIE would disable Java? There are probably more than one. |

 | | chessgames.com: <And it is written: Notes by Ray Keene, but there are no notes at all.> There are actually a few notations on moves 15, 24, 26, 30, and "White resigned" at the end. If the software sees the tiniest note, from a single "!" to saying "time" at the end, it will mark the game as annotated. Admins look at new games and especially new annotated games. If we see a game with "not enough notes to really count as annotated" we often set the flag to "NO" so it doesn't show up in searches for annotated games, even though it does have a note or two. In the case of that Keene game I think there are just enough notes to justify turning the flag to "YES", but it's borderline. |

 | | chessgames.com: <TheFocus: Try this one. Game Collection: 1964 Portisch - Reshevsky Play-off Match> OK, we've lowered the limit to 2 (a tournament/match must have at least 2 games to be nominated.) However the collection above still doesn't let you nominate it. The reason for this is not the game count, but rather that the games in the collection are also found in the main tournament Amsterdam Interzonal (1964) and it's against our rules for the game to be included in two events at the same time. I hesitate to tell you to fix this with correction slips, because that seems like a bunch of busy-work for the Librarian. I'd be happy to remove these three games from the main tournament for you. Are there many other similar situations? |

Instead, try "I recommend" or "she recommends". |

| Apr-16-14 | | Alien Math: Express thanks <Domdaniel> when in hurry the mind travels safe known paths, in future will attempt to remind to I recommend and not her recommends, The fact lifemaster admits ability to use Chess Viewer Delux with Windows 7 helps much! having both Whitelisting ability also <possible> current Java actually <Working!> combined together to allow a viewing of Chess Viewer Deluxe series, helps as chessgames noted, the browser series could harbor the limited conflicts that inhibit her prior browser problems, the MSIE11 combined with Windows 7, now to note where the pinwheel appears as a focal point |
