chessgames.com: On a more serious note, somebody has been playing Guess the Move and pointing out that a few games submitted are less than optimal.

A good example, on R Portela vs Capablanca, 1909 this user writes < white won but he was totally lost from about move 30. in a lost position it is hard to suggest good moves > After reviewing the game, I have to admit, he's absolutely correct. Capablanca had a rare lapse of attention and overlooked an elementary move sequence, beyond that he was up the exchange and a healthy passed pawn.

This is a horrible suggestion for Guess the Move, for as that user writes, it's hard to suggest good moves in a lost position. It's a good example why we can't just process "every game by Capablanca" (et al) in an effort to make GTM more powerful.

So we've implemented a new feature where admins can not only remove a game from GTM but also mark it as inappropriate for GTM, making it impossible to resubmit in the future. This game was the 1st to get the axe in that manner.

In short, don't be shy to tell us about games that have slipped into GTM that really shouldn't be there.

WannaBe: The latest Java upgrade/patch is having problems, I highly recommend people to not (yet) upgrade to v55...

Will keep y'all posted.

WannaBe: Manually downloaded update 55 (offline version) installed for 64 & 32-bit browser version, verified both worked on Win7.

Last night, I tried the online install version and it did not work (I think it's happened before...) and I also had to install the offline version. Very strange.

Will verify Win8.1 later today.

WannaBe: Win8.1 verified, 64-bit, 1.7_55 Java, was able to see Deluxe Chess Viewer.
Apr-23-14  Thanh Phan: Thank you, it's nice to see which browser, operating system and java versions, are providing conflicts and how some resolve it,

It seems the online using a browser type of install fails to work more often than the offline install versions

Eggman: There seems to be a mistake with the live broadcast scheduled for tomorrow morning. Carlsen is due to have White against Radjabov, not Mamedyarov.

chessgames.com: Thanks. We were thinking about showing Caruana-Mamedyarov but then decided at the last second to stick with Magnus, and somehow we ended up with a hodgepodge. It's all fixed now.
Apr-24-14  john barleycorn: Maybe there is a chance to correct the spelling here to Nezhmetdinov.

chessgames.com: <Profiles> There've been several changes to the size of profile sizes but in my recollection we've always been increasing them, never decreasing.

<Nyezhmetdinov> Our opening definition file has a lot of uncommon transliterations. We'll change that to the one more preferred.

Out of curiosity, I chased down the link to <Ham4ME> and found:

Apr-29-14  technical draw: Why can't we have an edit function on our posts? I just wrote a long post then I posted it on my forum but I attributed to the wrong person, All I needed was to change the name but there is no edit function so I would have to write the whole thing over again (which I won't do since it's not chess related)

I think I mentioned this a few years back but forgot what you said.

AylerKupp: <chessgames.com> I think that the starting time for tomorrow's Carlsen vs. Caruana game is 1 ½ hours earlier, 4:30 AM USA/Eastern. Please confirm and, if correct, please change the starting time in Live Broadcast Page.

Why wasn't it possible for you to copy paste the whole post into the comment box, change the name accordingly, post again and delete the older one?
