Annie K.: Fifty points to <cg> for 'peeks'. OK, will try not to take this any forther... But I also support <cg>'s right to say 'less ads', so it's a support issue!

chessgames.com: On a more serious note:

Yesterday we made an unannounced change to our game page, to make it more compact and lighter to load, when it detects that you are using a cell phone.

Due to an error in programming (what is called a "namespace collision") game pages were intermittently producing wrong information. This bug only happened to a few people, and only some of the time. It's a devilish thing to debug because it's almost irreproducible.

To give you an idea the nature of the bug, you might click on the Puzzle of the Day which was a Sicilian, and while the players at the top are correct, the game below is a Ruy Lopez, and the event link says "Norway Chess Tournament (1966)".

We received a flurry of complaints and quickly located the problem and fixed it. Or at least, we hope we did.

In short: if anybody notices any problems with game pages not working today in a manner described above, please let us know.

Annie K.: Hmmph... if you don't think the preceding discussion was A Very Serious Matter, then you probably don't realize that several of those involved are on the team currently rewriting your WCC intros! :s

Sorry, ok, I'll stop already. ;)

chessgames.com: An update for people who use pgn4web:

If you click on the "e8" square in any position, it will pull up a chess engine called "Garbo". It's not very strong (akin to Little Chess Partner) but it's something. It solved today's Friday puzzle instantly.

A little more info can be found on our Pgn4web Quickstart page.

Jun-21-14  garuffa: I have checked Disable mobile features (even on mobile devices) on my prefs and they are still active. Mobile pages are pretty unusable on chrome on a 7' device. I WANT to use they (once you have correct behaviour) or disable them. Please fix. Sorry for bad english.

Phony Benoni: Today's Sunday puzzle, J Alfred vs P Walsh, 2005, was used as a Monday puzzle back in 2010. Is this an error, or are you trying to tell us something?

chessgames.com: We are having intermittent database connection errors; trying to local the cause.
Jun-23-14  MarkFinan: I don't know whether you guys have noticed that all old adversaries seem to have let bygones be bygones lately and there's been no really bad flame wars. Maybe the odd comment here and there but nothing to deserve suspensions or warnings.. Anyway, I do realise this is none of my business but could you either confirm or deny that a certain well known user here is currently serving a suspension, and whether he'll be coming back at all?? It's just people are talking so I'm only asking what a few people want to know. Either way it's all good right now :)
Jun-23-14  zanzibar: I submitted a duplicate game - Foltys, Jan vs Foltys, M - Zlin (1943). Sorry, please cancel it out.

My mistake - <CG> has this one game by Miloslav. In fact, it's the only game it has with him... at least, labeled with his name.

I fudged my tournament hunter to search for Jan in place of Miloslav, since all other <CG> games from Zlin (1943) have Jan in place of Miloslav.

So I found all of the other mislabeled games, but missed the correct one!

Oh well... gotta go, lots of correction slips to submit.

Jun-23-14  zanzibar: (On the other hand - I get a meaningful chance to utilize the new numbering system!)

chessgames.com: <Zanzibar> I assume you're talking about Foltys vs M Foltys, 1943 but I don't understand what exactly you're asking us to do.

We did separate out the Zlin games for Miloslav Foltys per your correction slips.

<Mark> We don't discuss other member's suspension status except via email with the member in question.

Jun-23-14  thegoodanarchist: <chessgames.com> Please help! I have thought up a user name that I like way better than my current one.

How do I change it?
