11:14 AM and the problem is as bad as ever again.
More information- If I use my Korean IP address, the "work bar" says "Connecting to chessgames.com," and after it times out it says OOPS GOOGLE CHROME COULD NOT CONNECT TO CHESSGAMES.COM. But when I try to load pages using a US proxy IP, the work bar says "waiting for chessgames.com" and the page will load after 30-60 seconds, or it will hang- forever. I tested such a hang for a full five minutes. <Daniel> please don't stop working on this until it's fixed? I have a horrible fear that it might get fixed for every IP address in the world except mine. Remember twice this year I told you this was happening to my Korean IP address, when other members from other regions didn't seem to be experiencing problems? Sorry to spam but sometimes I wish I lived in an apartment next door to your servers. |

| Jul-12-14 | | john barleycorn: Opening Explorer The information on the right side of the diagram says: 8. Ba4 43
8. Bxc6 20
which are a 63 games in total
Under the diagram it says:
White to move
60 games · 1985-2014
Does that mean there are 3 games with this position and Vlack to move? If so, how to find them? Or else? |
|
Jul-12-14
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <john barleycorn> The explanation is that there are 60 games with the position after 7...a6, and the other three games are being transposed into. A similar (but more extreme) case is Opening Explorer, with 525 games for the position after 1...e5 and more than 8,000 games after 2.e4 :) |
|
Jul-12-14
 | | chessgames.com: That topic is briefly touched on in the Opening Explorer Help Page under the section <When I add up the number of games in the moves column, it's bigger than the total number of games that contain the position shown. How can that be?> |
|
| Jul-12-14 | | john barleycorn: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...
my worth was more than 3000 chessbucks.
I put 100 on Leko as winner in Dortmund.
So, there should be >2900 chessbucks left.
But it is not the case. |
|
| Jul-12-14 | | john barleycorn: <SwitchingQuylthulg: <john barleycorn> The explanation is that there are 60 games with the position after 7...a6, and the other three games are being transposed into.> However, it says games with this position not games after this sequence of moves.
In my understanding if transpositions are counted, the number under the diagram should be greater than the number or sum of numbers on the right side. |
|
Jul-12-14
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <john barleycorn> There are 60 games with the position after 7...a6, 43 games with the position after 8.Ba4 and 20 games with the position after 8.Bxc6. The three extra games don't feature the position after 7...a6 but are transpositions from elsewhere. As for your net worth, you must be thinking of your old net worth from a previous leg; a new leg (the Summer Leg) commenced on Tuesday, and as the ChessBookie Game Help Page states, "at the start of each leg, each player's account is wiped clean and 1000 chessbucks are deposited." Therefore, you had a net worth of 1000 chessbucks before your Leko bet, and 900 chessbucks now. |
|
Jul-12-14
 | | chessgames.com: <However, it says games with this position not games after this sequence of moves.> Correct. <In my understanding if transpositions are counted, the number under the diagram should be greater than the number or sum of numbers on the right side.> You are only counting transpositions leading up to the diagram on the left, and failing to take into account transpositions in the right column. If the right column says "8.Ba4, 40 games" that doesn't mean that the move 8.Ba4 was played 40 times in the diagram on the left. It means that there are 40 games which result in the position that you would get if you played 8.Ba4 on the diagram on the left. See the difference? |

 | | chessgames.com: And for those who have not heard:
♔ The ChessBookie! Game has Returned ♔
That means everybody has 1000 "chessbucks" in their account to gamble with on real-world chess events. But it's not all fun and games, at the end of each season free memberships are given out, and at the end of the year real chess prizes are mailed. If you don't know what any of this means, see ChessBookie Introduction to get started. |

| Jul-13-14 | | davide2013: Where could I find a description of what each square does in pgn4web?
(e.g E7 to switch side view etc...) |

Re: pgn4web
Try here Pgn4web Quickstart
And here http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/em... |
|
| Jul-13-14 | | davide2013: Thanks hms123, but that doesn't answer the question.
If you notice in those two links you wrote, is not even written that clicking on E7 would switch the side of the board.
I'm trying to find if there is a list of the "squares" on which to click and relative function. |

| Jul-13-14 | | hms123: <Annie>. Hovering the mouse doesn't work so well on my iPad. <davide2013> Here is another link http://www.chessgames.com/pgn4web/h... You can hit also <g8> to bring up this page. |
|
Jul-13-14
 | | chessgames.com: Just to be clear, the Pgn4web Quickstart does in fact contain this section: <<How do I flip the board, so Black is on the bottom?> Click on the e7 square and the board will flip, or alternately press the f key on your keyboard to do the same thing.> The page at http://www.chessgames.com/pgn4web/h... says <shortcut squares: please hover the mouse pointer on each square of the chessboard to check for their shortcut action> Maybe we should compile a list of their actions and make a "Pgn4web for Experts" page. |
|
Jul-13-14
 | | Annie K.: Problem is, the content of that page seems to change based on from where (and/or with what platform?) it is accessed - when I access it from a game page on my iPhone, I actually get a list of the shortcut squares: |

| Jul-13-14 | | zanzibar: I think I might not be the only one who regularly uses the <Kibitz> button to see what discussions are fresh: Recent Kibitzing Page
But I'm getting sick of looking at Fischer's portrait, and am really sick of Rogoff's. It's nothing personal, but how many times do I need to see these guys pictures? Not only that, but it's disruptive, and redundant. I'm immediately going to hit <END> and then going to have to hit <UP> a couple of times to relocate the posting's "teaser" (i.e. the snippet of text I was just reading on the new kibitzing page). Why can't we just jump to the relevant post directly? After all, each post has an anchor, so it should be easy for <CG> to implement. (Ah, we talked about that before too. Perhaps we should take it up again, after discussing this) |

 | | chessgames.com: <zanzibar> I see what you are saying, but suppose it was a link to an opening or a player or simply a game you are unfamiliar with. You might want to see what it being discussed before reading the discussion. I bet you already know that you can click the "kibitzing" arrow in your menu bar to jump right down there, but I appreciate the value of removing a click. Conceivably we could make a preference option along the links of "New Kibtzing links take you directly to kibitzes", but that seems awfully micromanaged. |
