chessgames.com: Also, sorry about being late with the Gelfand-Svidler rapid match that is taking place; we'll get those games online soon.

OhioChessFan: I'd be careful about clicking on a link that said that anywhere online.

Annie K.: <Ohio> that particular pun potential doesn't exist in the Hungarian version, though. ;p

BTW, the whole paragraph says:

'Rapport has probably scored his life's easiest victory with this. You can look at this mate here, it won't take up much of your time.'

Heh...

Jul-22-14  Thanh Phan: This is great to see how many people visited from an article linking to here, an interested group.

<Annie K.> nice to see your language having such an active community regarding chess :)

Annie K.: <Thanh> thanks, Hungary has a large chess community, but they tend to stay on local sites, since the older generation doesn't speak English very well. The main foreign languages that used to be taught in Hungary were Russian, German, and French. Of course things have probably changed a lot since English became Internetese, but the young usually catch on faster.

<cg> I mentioned your message of welcome on the game page. ;)

Jul-23-14  zanzibar: <Dubai WBR 2014: Updating breaking tournament games>

There are a couple of old posts I found that show some of the issues remain:

chessgames.com chessforum (9729)

chessgames.com chessforum (9730)

chessgames.com chessforum (9744)

chessgames.com chessforum (9752)

Now I'm working a little on the 2014 Blitz tournament, just for chuckles. Several parallels seem to appear. I'll post them soon.

Jul-23-14  zanzibar: If I do an <Adv Search> on

A R Saleh Salem

with <A R Saleh Salem> the result is:

<Sorry, we have no names that exactly match 'A R SALEH SALEM' in our database.>

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

I know to sluff off the A and R, but shouldn't <CG> recognize its own canonical name?

Jul-23-14  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

Can we please have a forum for the <2014 101ST BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP>?

Thanks

Jul-23-14  Blunderdome: Biel rd 10: LEAST MOVES TO WIN

This prop should ask which game will have the <fewest> moves played.

<The shortest game will be the game with the least moves played>

<Fewest> is what you want in the above text as well. No need to thank me :P

Jul-24-14  Thanh Phan: <Annie K.> Interesting, there is a chess community in Vietnam, a majority use Vietnamese or Chinese websites,

The foreign languages the older generations used to learn were French and Russian,

The younger generations are learning English and Chinese for more online gaming and English for more work related activity

Stonehenge: The software for uploading games is still assigning games to the wrong player. See e.g. Kjell Krantz. All games from 2010 and later were played by http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?.... This happens very often, it seems that the software only looks at the family name. That's quite ridiculous, if it is true.

Stonehenge: FIDE now also have an online rating for some players, for example http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?....

chessgames.com: Online ratings? Wow. <Thanks to Premium Chess’ advanced anti-cheating technology, members are for the very first time able to obtain official FIDE online ratings, with a planned merging of online and over-the-board blitz and rapid ratings, revolutionising the way we think about and play chess.> http://www.arena.myfide.net

Annie K.: Ehwhat?! Does this mean all of us who don't live in areas where FIDE ratings are easily available in OTB tournaments can get actual FIDE ratings online? Sounds like a dream. Somebody find the catch, please. ;s
