 | | chancho: The forum function can still be used, even on the last day of subscription. Besides, his avatar can still be seen on his page.
A non premium member would have no avatar. |

 | | chessgames.com: If you can't see somebody's forum, it can only be because they closed it. Closing a forum does not delete the posts there, it just hides it until the owner decides to reopen. You can flip your forum on and off like a light switch from your preference page. Due to a quirk in Recent Chessforum Activity, it's possible to see a fragment of the most recent post even in a closed forum. |

 | | MissScarlett: Is it permissible to submit a game with a non-standard opening position? I refer to a game, Walbrodt vs Delmar, that I wish to upload. White's K and Q were reversed and it wasn't noticed until several moves had been made, and Delmar, as Black, insisted that the game continue. |
|
| Dec-14-14 | | zanzibar: <MissScarlett> Not to preempt <CG>'s reply, but I uploaded some Pillsbury odds-match games, where the Black KBP is missing. The way to do this is to put the starting position, in FEN, before the movelist. The games up-loaded and then download just fine.
The trouble is that the <CG> PGN-viewer plays the game from the canonical setup, i.e. with all the pieces on the board, in their original position. This is wrong and will cause the game to not play properly at some point. I think it can be easily fixed, though. Such an enhancement would be valuable for <CG> I think. Here's an example:
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891 |

 | | MissScarlett: The only difference I see is that your PGN file (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/nph-...) reads [SetUp "0"] where the other odds games on the site typically have [SetUp "1"]. Maybe you just need to insert that when submitting the PGN. |
|
| Dec-14-14 | | zanzibar: <MissScarlett> Ah, perhaps. I generally don't use that tag. SCID will just ignore it and play from the starting position. If <CG> doesn't, then I'll need to submit a correction slip. Let's see if <chessgames> comments. Thanks for pointing that out...
(The odds-match and your unusual start position should then each work similarly.) |

 | | chessgames.com: <White's K and Q were reversed and it wasn't noticed until several moves had been made, and Delmar, as Black, insisted that the game continue.> As long as no illegal moves transpired afterwards, that's just fine. (An illegal move in this case mostly likely being castling when the king is on the wrong square.) <Setup "1"> I fixed that game, that's all it was. |
|
| Dec-14-14 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> thanks for that. I checked my submission records, and it seems I omitted <Setup> from all the Pillsbury--Burille odds match games. Can I just mention it here, or do I need to submit correction slips? Here's the uncorrected games:
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891
(1754078->1754081)
plus the one already corrected
Pillsbury vs Burille, 1891
(1754077)
Thanks. |

 | | Penguincw: Just a small correction that I'm pretty sure the user mentioned would appreciate. :) < and Travis Bickel = VIABLE TRICKS. > |

 | | chessgames.com: <Can I just mention it here, or do I need to submit correction slips?> Sure, no problem. It's weird that it would accept the FEN and leave the SetUp as "0" anyhow, I'll have to look into that issue. <Bickel> Oops, thanks. |

Dec-14-14
 | | OhioChessFan: < and Travis Bickel = VIABLE TRICKS. > That would be "Travis Bickle" |
|
| Dec-15-14 | | zanzibar: Me again...
Any chance the round number of a game could be displayed on the board? I ask having reviewed the updates to Pillsbury--Burille match, where seeing the round number explicitly displayed would be handy. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Any chance the round number of a game could be displayed on the board?> That's one of those fields that shows up on CVD but not on pgn4web, along with the site, the date, and so forth. When we made the switch to pgn4web as the default, a number of fields became visible only if you click on PGN:View. We plan on restructuring the top of the game area to include data that was hidden in that way, including rounds and sites. |
|
| Dec-15-14 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> yes, I was using pgn4web. The restructuring sounds like a good updage.
OK then, thanks. |
|
| Dec-15-14 | | zanzibar: One more thing,
Chess Viewer Deluxe Quickstart
still states that CVD is the default viewer. |

 | | MissScarlett: <<White's K and Q were reversed and it wasn't noticed until several moves had been made, and Delmar, as Black, insisted that the game continue.>> Tis done. SetUp "1" was automatically added by Rybka. All eleven games of the Delmar-Walbrodt match submitted; I may even be persuaded to create a game collection... |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> Belated congrats with the 13 years, and and happy holidays! Or Merry Christmas or what it is in English. God Jul! It's been a good year, with lots of technical improvements. And a good deal of bio writings as well, both on pids and tids. |

 | | WannaBe: General question to everyone (Including CG, of course). Was there ever, any official stat, each year, on which one was quickest to be solved and which one took the longest? Or it was just consensus of the people on which one of the 64 was 'easiest/hard to solve'? |
|
Dec-15-14
 | | chessgames.com: <Was there ever, any official stat, each year, on which one was quickest to be solved and which one took the longest?> No, sorry. Every year we keep planning on adding timestamps to the puzzles to keep track of that but it ends up getting postponed another year due to last minute puzzle making/checking. Off the top of my head, I would say that last 2013's "Perfect Fifth" clue probably lingered the very longest. Most of a day if I recall? |

| Dec-16-14 | | MostlyAverageJoe: Hey, CG, has my old avatar hit a black hole after my membership lapsed? I used to have one, and after the (unintentional) reactivation, I was expecting it to be restored (just like the forum got restored) -- but nope, it reverted to a generic one... |
