Dec-22-14  john barleycorn: < Domdaniel: <jb> Sigh. Yes, it is. So change that to "all *odd* primes..."

Did you know that positive integers are either *odious* or *evil* ...?>

There are all sort of numbers since Pytagoras taught us that "everything is number". Now, I am just waiting for the "sociopathic" ones (or do I have to give my birthdate to <Abdel>????)

Domdaniel: Convert any integer to binary and add up the ones: if the result is even, the integer is 'evil'; if odd, it's 'odious'.

A sociopathic number, I guess, would be both odious and evil.

chessgames.com: <FSR> Probably better than what we've got lined up.

<Domdaniel> The software keeps picking the wrong Vladimir Fedoseev; we're probably going to just have to fix it daily until the event is over.

FSR: Re Christmas puns: as I've mentioned before, I would nominate Bogoljubov vs Schmid, 1949 under <Wholly Knight> or <O Wholly Night>, but your software won't let me since it's already been GOTD.

mistermac: All primes with the exception of 2 and 3 are of two forms either 6n+1 or 6n-1, an extra prime fact.

Also, I think that the idea that the product of *all the known* primes plus 1 is a prime is not quite true. That number could be the product of two or more primes not on the known list.

  SwitchingQuylthulg: <cg> Merry Christmas!

I'd suggest renaming Vladimir Fedoseev (the "wrong" Fedoseev) to Vladimir I Fedoseev or Vladimir Ivanovich Fedoseev to disambiguate them. (My source for the patronymic "Ivanovich" is this list of rated Udmurtian players: http://www.udmchess.ru/files/rank/f...)

Dec-24-14  crawfb5: THE HUNT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Twas the Hunt before Christmas, when all through the house

Every creature was stirring, they wouldn't go “RAUS!”

The tabs were opened in the browser with care,

In hopes that NuKlu soon would be there.

The dogs were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of lame squirrels danced in their heads.

And mamma in her bed, and I online,

Had just settled my brain for a klu I might find.

When among the dogs there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the computer to see what was the matter.

I see what you dogs need most is a muzzle,

To give dad some peace to think about this puzzle.

The klu on the page of the new-opened page

Gave start to wild speculation and some read rage.

When suddenly there was a furry paw on my nose

The klu was solved, and my anger arose.

“Off, Geno! Hush, Hannah! Stop, Talia! Quiet, Lee!

Can't you see to play your dad is not free?”

They can be insistent pups I allow

Their place is here and the time is now.

It will be Christmas Eve before the last klu will drop

Then we can play your favorite – “Hop on Pop.”

Dec-24-14  Abdel Irada: <FSR>: Has "Silent Knight" been used?

If not, it might be aptly applied to a game decided by the inactivity or corraling of a misplaced Springer (and I don't mean Jerry, although he definitely qualifies).

chessgames.com: "Wholly Knight" featuring Jesus (J Nogueiras vs M Gongora Reyes, 2001) is surely our best effort to date, but we can't recycle it every year.
Dec-24-14  crawfb5: Maybe this Knight odds game with a smothered mate for "Silent Knight"

Dec-24-14  Abdel Irada: Great game, but that knight was anything but silent. :-)

Dec-24-14  crawfb5: The silent knight was the one that was never there.
Dec-24-14  Abdel Irada: Can something that never existed be "silent"?

I might call this game "The Silence of the Rooks." :-D

Dec-24-14  crawfb5: Here's a win by User: IMlday where the b1 knight never moves:

L Day vs A Kuznecov, 1983

Here's one where the b1 knight moves only once, and it's the winning move, but it's not in the database:

Tarrasch vs Kolb, 1894>

Tarrasch versus Kolb
Will be our game tonight
But White, being so strong,
Will start with just one knight

And now the game is on
It surely won't be drawn
White's got himself some open lines
He's sacrificed a pawn

Black couldn't keep things closed
All kinds of threats abound
Yes, White's still down a knight
But turning things around

White wants to mate Black's king
He has no other aim
What fun it is to watch and sing
This song about the game!

Forget 'bout quiet play
White's going for the kill
Black's king he wants to slay
And soon I think he will!

He's sacrificed his queen
He moved it to c8
Kolb took (it was his only move)
And we had smothered mate

Hey! Sacs and threats,
Checks and mates,
Just the single aim
Oh! what fun it is to play
Through a one-horse open game!

Dec-24-14  crawfb5: <Switch> Very nice!
