 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Carlsen vs Anand, 2013 ;-) I agree with <WannaBe>'s suggestion about improving the parsing of links, but if the original problem was caused by malicious Google ads, that issue should probably be addressed first. |

 | | chessgames.com: OK, it seems to be fixed. (Let's just hope something else doesn't break because of the fix.) I still want to know where keypusher got that link. Was it by right-clicking on an advertisement? Or did he carefully construct it just to see what would happen? |

 | | WannaBe: Interesting, that the previous posts by me, <chancho> and <Switch> still shows "Carlsen vs Anand, 2013" instead of the "Correct" link... That means those old posts are already in some kind of database and hence not re-parsed? |
|

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <WannaBe> Old posts never change when things are updated. Sometimes that's just as well - the post at Gideon Stahlberg, for instance, has a player page link that correctly spells Ståhlberg's name with an å, reflecting a brief experiment from 10+ years ago. <cg> Did you read the ecommercebytes article I linked to? |

| Jan-15-15 | | Gottschalk: <keypusher>
In total contradiction with the motto of FIDE "Gens Una Sumus"I truly believe that Daniel Freeman favors some groups and disparages others. Only not to miss historical and geographical information,
with the end of Avis dinasty, Portugal was part of the Kingdom of Spain between 1580 and 1640.
Today, Brazil attends Pan Iberian events, usually organized by the Spanishes, by the reason have belonged to Spain along with Portugal.
Finally, I believe it is correct to say that all peoples of the Iberian peninsula are Spanish (including the Basques), Portugal being an independent kingdom .. Do you think a possible title "Scandinavian epidemic" would not be
referring to Norwegian and Finnish, beyond the Swedes? |

 | | chessgames.com: I do hope the comments about being offended by the <Spanish Influenza> GOTD were at least half in jest. No, it wasn't a good pun, but the game was excellent and we've exhausted every Karpov/Kasparov pun we can think of. For comparison, the commonly accepted jocular term among chess players for the Ruy Lopez is "Spanish torture" — surely our pun is no worse than that. |

 | | Annie K.: Some things may be offensive, given a great will to be offended. ;s |
|
Jan-15-15
 | | Domdaniel: <Gottschalk> There is no reason to be offended. 'Spanish influenza' or 'Spanish flu' is the normal name in English for a strain of the 'flu virus thought to have originated in Spain. Another virulent strain was called Hong Kong flu. Nothing offensive to these nations in intended. |
|
Jan-15-15
 | | Domdaniel: Oops: Nothing offensive to these nations *is* intended. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Do you think a possible title "Scandinavian epidemic" would not be referring to Norwegian and Finnish, beyond the Swedes?> No. Most of the Scandinavians I know think that this sort of touchy sensitivity to ethnic 'slurs' is somewhere between ridiculous and pathetic. |
|
| Jan-15-15 | | YouRang: <Gottschalk><Do you think a possible title "Scandinavian epidemic" would not be referring to Norwegian and Finnish, beyond the Swedes?> Hey!! You forgot to mention the Danes! We're Scandinavians too! How insulting! Grr! >:-( |
|
| Jan-15-15 | | YouRang: <Domdaniel><Most of the Scandinavians I know think that this sort of touchy sensitivity to ethnic 'slurs' is somewhere between ridiculous and pathetic.> Yes, in fact it's sort of a sport among Scandinavian countries for each to make insulting jokes at the expense of the others. All in fun. Q: How do you sink a Swedish battleship?
A: Put it in water.

Do the people in Iceland also feel left out too? I can see a Viking raid coming soon. :) |
|
| Jan-16-15 | | YouRang: <Benzol><Do the people in Iceland also feel left out too?> They probably do, because we don't honor them with insulting jokes (yokes) like we do with the Swedes, Norwegians, and Finns. |

Jan-16-15
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: A Finn, a Swede and a Norwegian decide to find out which of them is the best Guess-the-Move player. They pick the same game and play at the same time on different computers, so none of them will have the advantage of knowing the others' scores. The Norwegian finishes first, scoring 46 points. He's not at all satisfied with the result. A minute later, he sees the Finn stand up to signal he's finished. The Norwegian walks over to him. "What'd you score?" he asks the Finn quietly.
"Forty-eight," the Finn replies.
"Nice," acknowledges the Norwegian, "I scored forty-six. I don't think you will beat the Swede, though; he's a strong player, booked up on openings and all." The Finn considers this. He's an honest person and doesn't like to cheat, but the one thing he likes even less is losing to a Swede. "Listen," he suggests to the Norwegian, "you tell the Swede I scored fifty-five and I'll tell him you did." "Deal," says the Norwegian, who also doesn't like the thought of losing to the Swede. They wait for a few minutes, but the Swede shows no signs of finishing. Finally, the Finn gets tired and raises his voice. "Oy!" he shouts, "aren't you ready yet?"
"Give me a bit more time," the Swede replies.
A minute later, the Swede finally stands up and walks over to the other two with a confident grin. "What'd you score?" he asks.
"Fifty-five," say the Finn and the Norwegian together. "You can't have done," says the Swede.
The Finn and the Norwegian exchange concerned glances. "How come?" asks the Norwegian.
"Because I finally remembered the recommended theory move," says the Swede, "and I still only scored three." |

| Jan-16-15 | | fgh: <Chessgames.com>, could you please ban <tolengoy>'s latest socks (<bulibug> and <lainulo>) from posting at Tata Steel (2015)? He has been disrupting that page for several days now and people are getting fed up with his crap (witness the last few pages of kibitzing at the Tata Steel 2015 page). Thank you. |
|
| Jan-16-15 | | YouRang: <Domdaniel: <YouRang> Heh. I *thought* the punchline might be at the expense of Vasa.> Yes, but it wasn't a total loss for Sweden. They rebranded it as a submarine and sold it to the Norwegians. |

Jan-16-15
 | | Domdaniel: <YouRang> - < They rebranded it as a submarine and sold it to the Norwegians.>
Hmm. I wonder why the English didn't think of that with the Mary Rose... |
|
| Jan-16-15 | | YouRang: <Domdaniel> They did, and it almost worked. But the deal fell through when they described the Mary Rose as a Tudor ship. The Norwegians replied that they were shopping for a Fordor. |
