 | | Domdaniel: < How do you people get your mind off from chess? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.> Some people use sex, drugs, or rock'n'roll. Others employ mathematics, or read long and complicated novels (anything by Thomas Pynchon should do, in a pinch). Avoid furniture: it tends to suggest combinations such as 'chair takes table, check'. I couldn't possibly comment. |

| Apr-28-15 | | YouRang: <How do you people get your mind off from chess? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.> If you want advice on how to get your mind off of booze, do you walk into a bar? |
|
Apr-28-15
 | | Domdaniel: <YouRang> Yes, if it's a coffee bar. |

 | | Annie K.: Walking into a steel (or even merely iron) bar is guaranteed to get your mind off chess for a while, no advice needed. ;p Not certain about whether a gold bar would do it.
However, <YouRang> is spot on WRT the principle of the thing. ;s |

 | | WCC Editing Project:
<FSR> Thanks for those corrections, and especially thanks for the source. The WCC intro you mention is not going to exist soon, so there is no point in correcting it. Eventually all WCC intros will be erased and replaced by our drafts, which are researched and written from scratch. Drop by our forum for an update- we are still hoping you are willing to write one of our new drafts. The following WCC intros were produced by our team:

 | | chessgames.com: <The WCC intro you mention is not going to exist soon, so there is no point in correcting it.> Thanks, I was wondering. If it was last-on-the-list I could make a patch-up job to tide us over. |

 | | WCC Editing Project:
<Daniel> By all means, if you want to make patch up fixes on WCC events we've yet to promote, that's an excellent idea. It needn't just be "last on the list" events either. It's your website man! |

 | | WannaBe: <CG.com> I see that the Viewer-Deluxe.jar have /img folder included/packaged. Why is that, when the game loads, it is looking at a folder on CG.com server? I examined the pictures that is on the server, and what is packaged with .jar, they are identical... I have not figured out where/why the call to load the image of the pieces are, but once I do, I'll let you know more about what I find out. |

 | | WannaBe: <CG.com> Another thing of interest, in the javascript file, last function createNextElement() there is a .setTimeout with a value of 1000 I can't really fully test to see if that function gets called, and/or if that delay is what causing .gif to load to so slowly... Can you examine and let me know? Thanks. |

 | | Tabanus: I went back to Chrome and erased IE 11. Java now works perfectly on Dynomite (after enabling NPAPI and allowing Java to "always run" in Chrome's advanced settings!), but not in CG where it takes minutes to load. Unfortunately, after installing IE 11 the computer started to run "rundll" processes, and now (i. e. after IE 11 removal) it continues to do just that. The main reason I ereased IE 11 is that Google translate did not work in it. In fact, Google translate advertised the use of Chrome. |

Safest and among the fastest, what more could you ask for? |

 | | chessgames.com: There's a really great chess library written in Javascript found here — http://chessboardjs.com But it's not a PGN viewer, it's a more primitive tool designed for programmers to implement things like chess engines, PGN viewers, etc. I'm very hopeful that something as powerful as CVD will soon be available without Java. |
|
| May-02-15 | | zanzibar: Hey <chessgames>, have you looked at what <ChessTempo> uses? I think it's some javascript library taken from yahoo. Most everything Richard uses is PD, I'm fairly sure. <CT> really has a great system, boards with moves in the comments, including variations, subvariations, comments, etc. (I like his old interface the best, he's recently redone it. So the current system is a hybrid, the new system by default for tactical problems, with the old system still for the comments and also for the game database) |

 | | Richard Taylor: I still cant see any of the games on here although I suppose I can copy the PGNs. I downloaded the new Java with no luck.
Even the default PGN doesn't work. Or it will work once then not load on another game. I would be o.k. if that worked. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Even the default PGN doesn't work.> Really? What exactly does it do when it fails? |
|
May-04-15
 | | Richard Taylor: It doesn't start. It does sometimes. But then it simply doesn't start. No board there. Just the players names. |
|
| May-04-15 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> Just curious, but do you envision some future version of <CG> where playable boards could be posted in comments? |
