WannaBe: <hms123: ... We do need a new washing machine.> Hehehehehe, a while back in the break room, during lunch, someone said the same thing.

Six of us ended up spending the lunch hour discussing whether we like top loading or front loading and pulling out iPads to read up on which one is more water/environ friendly and which one do a better job cleaning the laundry.

offramp: The app is nearly ready but Perl has to be translated to java.

It's an almost identical task to translating Greco's descriptive to algebraic.

Aug-13-15  zanzibar: <WannaBe> a laundry geek!
Aug-13-15  zanzibar: <CG> For games links like this:

Bisguier vs Reshevsky, 1957

and the kibitzer version too...

Bisguier vs Reshevsky, 1957 (kibitz #2)

could we please include the round number in the display text?

Something like this...

<Bisguier vs Reshevsky (R4), 1957>

That way, if I have a bunch of links to a series of games in a match, I might have 1/2 a chance of knowing which game is which, without having to "do the jump".

Aug-13-15  crawfb5: A few years ago my bitter half said she wanted a front load washer with a pedestal. That settled that question. She who does the laundry picks the machine. :-)

chessgames.com: <RonB52734: <cg> I wonder if you might mention Alex Shabalov on your front page. I think he just won the US Open with 8.5/9.>

We really want to do that — (I'm a big fan of Shabalov, I love his style) — but I can't find game scores to save my life.

Can anybody locate the US Open PGN? The closest thing to an official site I've found is this: http://www.uschess.org/tournaments/...

The games must be out there because a few of them surfaced on chess.com (http://www.chess.com/news/gm-shabal...)

chessgames.com: <could we please include the round number in the display text?>

Hmmm... that's a simple request and seemingly quite useful, but we use those links in so many different places, it's hard to imagine all the consequences. For example the Opening Explorer has such links, but it's really cramped for space already, and in that context it certainly doesn't matter if 14...Ne4 was played in round 4 or round 5.

We could create different rules for how links appear, depending on whether it's in kibitzing or other situations, but that's a layer of complexity that I always wanted to avoid.

In short, not a bad idea, but let me think about it.

WannaBe: <chessgames.com> They are on monroi.com but there's no easy way to get all available PGNs easily.

Maybe you have to contact them and ask for the PGNs. Else it would be a (monumental) task to get them one-by-one.

Aug-13-15  crawfb5: TWIC 1082 has 251 US Open games.

chessgames.com: Good news, I found some scores. I don't know how Mark Crowther (http://www.theweekinchess.com) does it but he came up with a number of games including all but one of Shabalov's games.

WannaBe: <chessgames.com> which one you don't have? Maybe I can dig it up on monroi. (no promise)

chessgames.com: Well let's see... US Open (2015)/Alexander Shabalov

According to the PGN, we have no games for rounds 1 or 3, but two for round 6. Clearly one of those round 6 games is an error.

My guess is that his first round game is missing, a common happening in Swiss events.

WannaBe: OK, thanks for the info, get back to you later. =))
Aug-13-15  crawfb5: Shabalov vs Macieja, 2015 is the real Round 6.

The full crosstable is here: http://www.uschess.org/results/15/u...

Shabalov's first round game against <Innes> is the missing one.

Some of the other round numbers may be off.

WannaBe: <chessgames.com> Sorry, looks like monroi don't have it, and I am guessing Mr. Crowther have the complete (available) PGN.

(That monroi site is horrible, can't hardly navigate around there...)

Aug-13-15  zanzibar: <crawfb5: A few years ago my bitter half said she wanted a front load washer with a pedestal. That settled that question. She who does the laundry picks the machine. :-)>

I have a bitter half too,

though with a dark side,

but oh, such a lovely shape,

and bubbly personality,

with wondrous complexion,

it was love at first pint:

chessgames.com: <Penguincw> No problem, I just undid the payoff so it's up to you to pay it off properly. (Two players already cashed in, therefore we have to remove money from their account; I have the notes saved should there be a question or issue regarding that.)
