 | | keypusher: Maybe it's an operating system issue. I went into my work virtual desktop (which is a PC environment) and tested the computer analysis board using the Chrome browser. No problem. Eureka, I thought, and installed Chrome on my iPad. But when I used the computer analysis board, the browser shut down after a short time. |

 | | Penguincw: Uh, <cg>. I sent you an email about 6 hours ago, but you still haven't responded. It's kinda important and a bit urgent. I'll repost it here (you can reply here or via email, doesn't matter): Just a quick question. So for a Pick Three (World Cup R7: Pick Three), I see that no one has placed chessbucks on the winning line (I believe this is a first in ChessBookie history). So my idea was to pay off 2 out of 3 lines (but haven't done so yet). What would be the procedure in this case? Of a course, me waiting a day to put up the bet in addition to the site being down contributed to this, so yeah. The leg was supposed to end today, but Karjakin won, so the leg continues for at least one more day. I gotta go, so had to make this email quick. Thanks. :) |

 | | MissScarlett: I submitted some - wait for it - Capablanca simul games, but the site went down for a while, and I don't know if my last submission (the opponent is Pomerantz) made it through. Could you confirm? Whilst you're at it, you may as well wave those games through. |

 | | chessgames.com: Does anybody happen to know who gets white for the first rapid tiebreak in Baku? Does it start at the same time? <MissScarlet> I'll tend to that shortly. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Miss S> Sorry, your submission didn't go through. The last game we received was Capablanca vs Harold Godfrey Cole, 1913. Incidentally, if you are ever unsure if a submission didn't go through, there's never any harm in submitting it again. It won't create duplicates. |

| Oct-05-15 | | zanzibar: Question about Opening Explorer's identifcation of "novelties": In CK 4...Nd7 variation
Opening Explorer I Rabinovich vs A Selezniev, 1914 is identified as first game, but there's also this:
A A Smorodsky vs Nimzowitsch, 1914
The latter was St. Petersburg (1914), the former Triberg (1914). I think St. Petersburg came first, but the question is this - <How does Opening Explorer determine who came first when there are several games from the same year?> I suspect it's arbitrary, and would suggest showing the multiple possibilities in such cases. |

 | | Penguincw: Hi <cg>. The Summer 2015 leg is over, so you can/should begin checking the logfiles. |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | sonia91: <chessgames.com> Now World Cup (thanks for the coverage) it's over, I think you should upload games from other major tournaments currently underway (on October 1 you wrote "Agreed, we've gotten caught up in Baku fever, meanwhile other major events are taking place."): Poikosvsky (as you did in the previous years: Tournament Index search: "poikovsky"), FIDE Women's Grand Prix currently underway in Montecarlo (previous years: Tournament Index search: "women%27s grand prix"), PokerStars International Chess Tournament (last year: Tournament Index search: "pokerstars"). All the PGNs can be found on ChessBomb. |

 | | Annie K.: <sonia91> ChessBomb gamescores are not downloadable (to non-members at least) as a single large PGN file for the whole tournament, with header data et al, so it would be a very inconvenient source for <cg> to use. Finding actual PGN file sources for the tournaments you would like to see here would help a lot. :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <Zanzibar> I had to check the code to make sure, but the "debut" works like you'd think it would, it finds the one with the earliest date. (Not year, date.) However, there's a wrinkle. If the exact date of a game is unknown, it will show up as 1914-00-00 as opposed to 1914-01-06, so the one with the unknown date will always appear to be the debut, since 00 is less than 01. (If two games are tied at 1914-00-00 it will pick one randomly, or at least in an unpredictable fashion.) Arguably, it ought not do that; perhaps only games with known dates should be allowed to compete for the debut. In any case, if we found out the actual date of I Rabinovich vs A Selezniev, 1914 and updated it, after some time the OE will reprocess that node and switch the debut game. |

 | | Annie K.: <sonia> ChessBomb, ChessDom, chess24 are all the same story: they only allow download to members. Try TWIC or the official sites for free PGN files. :) |

 | | chessgames.com: About our network outages:
Today we signed a contract to rent a sophisticated router and switch from our hosting company. The flakey hardware will still be used for 2-3 more days, but they've agreed to reboot the machine, if needed, until they get the new equipment in place. We're very sorry for these problems and hope that they are permanently resolved before the weekend. |

 | | Penguincw: Uh <cg>, it seems that on the homepage, you linked it to the 2014 PokerStars IomM page: PokerStars IoM Masters (2014). The one you listed above is the correct one. |

<(If two games are tied at 1914-00-00 it will pick one randomly, or at least in an unpredictable fashion.)Arguably, it ought not do that; perhaps only games with known dates should be allowed to compete for the debut.> That's close to my argument, I would propose listing a "reasonable" number of the ties. Please note: having the exact date vs just the year should be considered a tie as well. |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | zanzibar: It would probably be too much to ask, but it would be nice to have two debuts for an opening line - the earliest example, and the "pratical" debut, i.e. the game which is accepted as causing the opening to be adopted in "general practice". Capablanca vs Marshall's famouse game comes to mind.
But, like I said, it's probably too much to ask for, and a little redundant with the notable game list for a given opening. |

 | | chessgames.com: Boomie; we're working on it. The official site (http://monaco2015.fide.com) has PGN like this (just a snippet) 8. Qxd4 {[%clk 1:28:13]} Bg7 {[%clk 1:25:08]} 9. Be3
100 12255 100 12255 0 0 9234 0 0:00:01 0:00:01 --:--:-- 33853
{[%clk 1:26:45]} O-O {[%clk 1:22:54]} 10. Qd2 {[%clk 1:26:59]} It's going to be a mess to clean up. Can anybody find the TWIC dossier for it? |
