Oct-22-15  zanzibar: Gazooks!

The form non-cacheing (i.e. why entry data is lost using the Back button) has been an issue since 2008:

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/...

<#146 HeloisaC...@gmail.com

This issue appears as fixed and closed as of 2009, but it is still a problem in 2014.

How do we reopen the issue?

* * * *

Jul 31, 2014 #147 rvargas@chromium.org

When a bug is closed (especially years ago), it's not going to be re-opened unless a clear regression is found (if at all).

>

And a little more background:

<

#3 finnur@chromium.org

Darin answered my last question on the dev mailing list:

"Most browsers implement some form of cache to allow them to re-render the output of the form post without actually repeating the form post. Of course, said cache sometimes lacks the required data, so all browsers will end up sometimes having to ask you to reload. We have not yet implemented such a cache for Chrome, which explains why you always see this error page prompting you to reload."

* * * *

#36 asarg...@google.com

The difficulty is purely technical. It's due to a lot of complexity in the forward/back navigation code in FrameLoader.cpp, the fact that Chromium uses a different cache implementation from WebKit (ours uses IPC between the browser and renderer processes, etc.), and a subtle race condition between the time we ask the cache if it contains a copy of the form post result and when we actually fetch it (when it could then be missing).

See https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cg... for some more details on related changes in WebKit.

We do understand that many people are eager to have this fixed.

  offramp: <Peligroso Patzer: Set forth below is the score of moves for a game you may want to include in your database. The principal significance of this game is that the moves were used by Ronan Bennett in his novel “Zugzwang”...>

Hey! Dudaragones! What is the name of that science fiction short story that is based on a Steinitz-Chigorin game?

Oct-23-15  zanzibar: I assume Dudaragones is offramped from this author:

Close but no zancigar. The short story I was thinking of (and it took me a while to look ot up) is <The Squares of the City> by John Brunner. It was published in 1965.

  Annie K.: <cg> Eh? Today's GOTD pun is mine, selected game and all, but I notice it hasn't disappeared from my submitted puns list.

Just curious, was that an oversight, or are we supposed to clean our lists ourselves, now that we can? ;s

  chessgames.com: <I notice it hasn't disappeared from my submitted puns list.>

We're supposed to delete them when they are chosen for submission. However, if you see one of yours disappear it doesn't necessarily mean it was chosen—we also delete some just because they are terrible and/or inappropriate.

If you ever notice we forgot to do that, please just delete it yourself. Thanks.

Oct-23-15  zanzibar: No zigar!? Zhucks!

Not Daragon?

Hence I wonder whence comes Dudaragones thence?

The Squares of the City by John Brunner

Yes; I'm sorry about that. Mad Magazine has a great cartoonist named Sergio Aragones. I have always thought him to be brilliant. (His influence is often seen in The Simpsons, especially in people's shadows).

I occasionally use his name as a suffix to denote anything outstanding.

In this case I sellotaped his name to the end of DUDE.

Dudaragones means SuperDude!

Good one. This is the game used in the book: Steinitz vs Chigorin, 1892

I have not read the book. But I've played through the game. Does that count?

Oct-24-15  sonia91: <chessgames.com> I've submitted the missing games of Women's World Team Championship via email.
Oct-24-15  zanzibar: Thanks <offramp> for the explanation. Funny, I'm a big fan of Spy vs Spy too, but it *never* would have occurred to me.

Somebody should write <The Book of Offramp> someday!

Oct-24-15  zanzibar: A little observation from:

Aronian vs Kramnik, 2012 (kibitz #290)

It appears that doesn't get colorized properly:

<roygbiv roygbiv>

A curious fact for idle minds such as mine.
