 | | Domdaniel: <Possibly he could enlist <Dom> for help. He has the experience...)> Indeed I do. But, hey, yer maj, remember I'm Irish, and therefore innocent. Back in the day, I didn't know what motorways and butt-cheeks *were*. |

 | | Domdaniel: Personally, I reckon they shoulda said "Bang thy ZX" -- meaning hit the keys hard on your old Sinclair comp -- rather than the ambiguous 'XZ'. Also, 'LEWD' is related to 'laity' and the 'lay' in 'lay preacher'. |

What's going on with all the misspelling? |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> oh noes, what have you done?! Now they're gonna start all over... ;s <There is an option on your Chessgames Preferences Page that reads "Games open in new browser windows" but it only applies to game pages. Arguably this could apply to any links on a chessgames post which link to an external site.> I would like that. Sure, there's the right-click & select new tab option... the trick is to remember to use it. Especially when one gets used to the default target="_blank" setting at other sites. :) |

Glad to hear it. Well, I'm sorry it's going on, but it's good to hear the reason for the crashes. |

 | | Domdaniel: <CG> I hope the bots have been repulsed, though I think there was another brief site outage in recent hours - nowhere as extensive as yesterday's crashes, thankfully. What, plz, is your approach to releasing Puzzle Klus during such attacks? Do you continue as normal, counting on the fact that outages affect everyone equally? Or do you reschedule klus? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Do you continue as normal, counting on the fact that outages affect everyone equally?> I don't think it's a question of fairness, it just isn't any fun. <Or do you reschedule klus?> If nobody is around to address the problem, the clues would be released no matter what. The other day while actively fighting a DoS attack I turned off the clues until things were under control. |

How about when they died? Would that be interesting to have as a feature? |

 | | chessgames.com: <How about when they died? Would that be interesting to have as a feature?> Seems a bit morbid for a homepage feature, but the ability to search the database in that way is not a bad one. A good idea might be to make a very thorough player-search feature where you can look up players based on name, substrings of name, birth/death date, federation, nationality, etc. |
|
Dec-19-15
 | | Domdaniel: <CG> Yes, that would be useful - especially, for obvious puzzle-related reasons, <substrings of name>. I used to search for substrings in a different database. But it's quicker to download the db and run custom searches. |

| Dec-19-15 | | MostlyAverageJoe: < chessgames.com: <How about when they died? Would that be interesting to have as a feature?> Seems a bit morbid for a homepage feature> Google already provides ability to do this kind of search, for example: https://www.google.com/#q=pid+%22di... As far as I can tell, the above is the most recent occurrence of three deaths on the same day in your database. Wouldn't klus be too morbid for a Present Hunt, though? |

 | | MissScarlett: The vexed question of the game type 'exhibition' needs to be addressed. There are two issues. First, it presently includes games that should properly be counted as 'classical'. For instance, those five remaining scheduled games played after Alekhine had won back his title from Euwe in 1937. Secondly, should 'exhibition' always imply that it took place in public or for the benefit of an audience? I'm wondering whether it would be simpler just to restrict the term to simultaneous displays, even to exclusion of living chess exhibitions and the like. Otherwise, how about introducing a separate class 'simultaneous' and have a new category 'other' for everything that doesn't fit into the rest? |

How about when they died? Would that be interesting to have as a feature?> I agree with <TheFocus> on this. I don't think it would be "too morbid"- quite the contrary. I think it would be more reverential, if anything. It could also lead to editors going to the player page in question and posting an obituary, or writing their own obituary, in the kibbutz section. |
