 | | Check It Out: <Chessgames>: it has become clear that you are substituting new puns for old ones. You replaced my pun <King David> with <Navaramind> here, Navara vs R Wojtaszek, 2015, a weak substitute if I may say so, and you replaced <Mate Me in St. Louis> with <Black Knights Matter> W So vs Nakamura, 2015, and both just this week. In my opinion, both of the original puns were classic quality, and to replace them is a shame. Secondly, I think the very notion of replacing puns is abhorrent. Let the good and the bad stand; there is more than enough fodder for games and puns. I look forward to your response to this matter. |

 | | AylerKupp: <chessgames.com> I just submitted Fischer vs Geller, 1967 for consideration as GOTD, and I'm surprised that it had not been nominated before and, if it had, that it wasn't selected. A marvelously complicated game. I suggested "Under the microscope of analysis" as the game's title which, for information, is the title that Geller himself gave to the game in his book "The Application of Chess Theory". Given the amount of analysis that has been applied to this game, both human-based and computer-based, I think that this is an appropriate title and I hope that you also think so. |

| Feb-12-16 | | morfishine: BTW: <AylerKupp> the title "Under the microscope of analysis" may be a bit laborious besides not actually being a pun |

| Feb-13-16 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> A couple of items... First, doing a kibitzing search I find a broken link in a post you made: Search Kibitzing Your post:
Biographer Bistro Wherein the link works.
But a cut-and-paste of the link(*) from the kibitz search: 00000000: 6874 7470 3a2f 2f77 7777 2e25 3343 666f

Shows an admixture of HTML markup with the url - causing it to break. Is this intended behavior? (he asked rhetorically)
(*) Well, not having verbatim display, and erroring out on even de-bracketed cut-and-paste, I was forced to include hex-code. |

The PGN gives the PlyCount as 44 when it should be 43. <CG> doesn't do this universally, which makes it a little baffling. I suspect you corrected an algorithm at some point, but never reviewed older games. Of course, not too many people will use this redundant tag, but I spotted it by eye at first, and then did a consistency check to confirm it as systematic. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Links in Search Kibitzing results don't work properly if they contain one or more of the strings being searched for (in this case the word "chess"); this is because Search Kibitzing tries to highlight all occurrences of the search terms by coloring them red, even if they are inside URLs. |

 | | AylerKupp: <morfishine> Clearly my suggestion for a title for Fischer vs Geller, 1967 was not a pun, but I don't think that this, though encouraged, is a strict requirement for GOTD titles. And, yes, it might be a bit laborious. But the fact that this is the title that Geller himself used for this game, besides the fact that it's very appropriate given the attention that the game has been given, seems to override the desire that the GOTD title be a pun. And, of course, it's <chessgames.com>'s decision. I don't really care what title they choose to give the game, but I think that it deserves being honored as GOTD. |

| Feb-13-16 | | zanzibar: RE: <broken links>
I should point out that the kibitzer search I wanted was for <"chess editor">
Note the quotes. <CG> should respect those during when parsing the request and just search for the exact phrase I'm after. If it had, then the link wouldn't be broken.
On the other hand, I could have easily done a search on <chess editor>,
looking for kibitzes where both words show up in a post (in any order). That's in effect what I did (though not my intention), and then the link is broken. In the end, I got a very economical 2-for-1 deal, i.e. two problems exposed doing just one search. |

G Neumann vs de Riviere, 1867
The PGN gives the PlyCount as 44 when it should be 43.> I reviewed that case. There is a function which determines the correct plycount of a game and then corrects it, if it's different from what's indicated. There apparently is a bug when a comment exists in place of a final move, e.g. a game that ends 100.Ke2 time 1-0 would wrongly be given a plycount of 200 instead of 199 like it should. Thanks for pointing that out, a line of code needs to change and then all of those problems will self-correct. About links not working (sometimes) in the Search Kibitzing feature, yes that's well known. If I knew an easy way to fix it I would. |

Silly me for oversimplifying the situation :)
I'm processing the games right now to correct this, should only take a few minutes. Let me know if you spot any more plycount anomalies. |

In my opinion, both of the original puns were classic quality, and to replace them is a shame.> Perhaps we should have announced this with more fanfare, but for the past ten days as well as today we have been just running through the list of the 10 best games of 2015, according to Game Collection: Best Games of 2015. So please know that it's nothing aimed against you or any of the clever people who submit puns. I'm not sure whether <tpstar> comes up with these puns on his own or whether it's a group effort, but nevertheless we used the titles he presented in his game collection without consideration as to whether it was an improvement or not. While I won't dispute your opinions above, some of his puns were positively brilliant, my favorite being today's GOTD Wei Yi vs L Bruzon Batista, 2015. It's one of those puns that just writes itself. Since all of these games are by definition very good, we will surely run all of them again one day, and then we have the opportunity to revert back to the previous puns. Or, just perhaps, we'll think of something novel. <Secondly, I think the very notion of replacing puns is abhorrent. Let the good and the bad stand; there is more than enough fodder for games and puns.> I can understand your motivation to adopt a "never change the pun" policy, but let's not go so far as to be disgusted; this isn't to be taken that seriously. |
