Tabanus: CG's actions may be illegal. Perhaps there are cases where it can be shown that CG has appropriated to their own use or benefit "the reputation, prestige, social or commercial standing, public interest or other values of the player's name or likeness".   Tabanus: <rogge> And you don't come across at all.

<Messages posted by Chessgames members do not necessarily represent the views of Chessgames.com, its employees, or sponsors.> I do think it can be argued that CG is deliberately using the names of Stumpers, Lin, Lie, etc. for commercial interest, i. e. to attract jerks willing to pay membership.

Tabanus: Interestingly, CG has themselves added this humourless advice:

<NOTE: Keep all discussion on the topic of this page. This forum is for this specific player and nothing else.>

Tabanus: <Abdel Irada> You are right, it's personal animosity. Perhaps I should be fired, but also the posts have nothing to do with the player.

To be more constructive, I suggest this for the community: 100+ more categories (without games) other than the chess: baseball, tennis, math, physics, poker, backgammon, go, politics, guns, biology, etc., with a Directory showing all of them. Then on the front page, a Recent Chess Kibitzing and a Recent Kibitzing area. There's still space, on both sides of the puzzle.

There was a discussion earlier about creating "side discussions" or something similar (to put the fun in), was that a joke?

Tabanus: Relax guys. I'll probably do what <Brassica oleracea> did on this page: Berthold Fartmann,

and leave the rest of you to it.

Jul-04-16  Jim Bartle: <tabanus> I remember a couple of us made comments about a subject related to a player's name, don't remember the name.

There had been zero comments on this player's chess in twelve years, I mean never. Yet you immediately chimed in and said you were preparing to do an overview of his career at that very moment.

Quite the coincidence.

Jul-04-16  Alien Math: Relax guys. <Tabanus> is all about Australasian Legal Information, he would never let liberal expressions of outrage cloud his editing,

<Tabanus: <Abdel Irada> You are right, it's personal animosity. > oops

at least he still has his Australia/New Zealand rules

Jul-04-16  morfishine: Thanks <CG> for cleaning up Louis Stumpers player page. Its one thing to have fun with a 'Beer' page, or an 'Odd Lie' page. Of course, when it comes to actual players, and here in this instance, a pretty darn good player, its to everyone's benefit that a certain protocol be followed.

<Abdel Irada> Back off, your comment about "firing" is silly and laughable because <Tabanus> is indispensable here at <CG>

<<Abdel Irada> Back off, your comment about "firing" is silly and laughable because <Tabanus> is indispensable here at <CG>>

The suggestion to fire <Tabanus> was not mine. It came from (your fellow conservative) <OhioChessFan>.

What we have here is bipartisan agreement.

As for "indispensable": Any editor who lets personal animus cloud his thinking and damages a player bio because of it is anything but.

And when <Tabanus> reacts to censure by threatening (in however veiled a form) legal action against the site, he goes from asset to liability.

Perhaps you should try to set aside your own political bias? Your judgment is as wrong on this as your litany of complaints about the GOTD puns was tiresome.

Tabanus: Hi <CG>, please delete all player page off-topic posts, incl. <Abdel Irada>'s two on this page: Isidore Censer.

They are not only childish, but also immoral.

Tabanus: <CG> If you want, I can make a list of the worst off-topic posters. On this list you will find jokers like whiteshark, Abdel I., Ohio and perfidious. It can easily be documented as well. So that when you fire me, you can let them go too. None of us are indispensable.

Tabanus: The point being of course that the off-topic posters are not ruining the player bios (like I did in two cases), but ruining the players themselves. Consider this example (one of hundreds, if not thousands): G Key. I'm sure you recognize some of the avatars.
Jul-05-16  Alien Math: <Tabanus: The point being of course that the off-topic posters are not ruining the player bios (like I did in two cases)>

At least stop messing up the names please?

It's hard enough creating accurate translations for names that are searchable in other languages with a correct spelling of their names found here,

<Louis Stompers, American liberal jerk.> took much longer to find info of history on him than the unstomped name of <Louis Stumpers>

Jul-05-16  Jim Bartle: <tabanus><The point being of course that the off-topic posters are not ruining the player bios (like I did in two cases), but ruining the players themselves.>

There is little or no chess interest on these players used for other subjects. Nobody had posted on the chess of Stumpers or Odd Lie or I Hatem. The <tabanus> claim that he was juuuuuust about to post on the career of one player--after ten years--when some awful kibitzers started posting on a non-chess subject is just absurd.

Tabanus: <Alien Math> In my defense (and believe this or not): my intention was good because I did it in order to save the player <from> off-topic kibitzing.

<Jim Bartle> If I understand you correctly, you seem to be only one actually bravely <defending> your right to write anything on the player pages.

<Nobody had posted on the chess of Stumpers or Odd Lie or I Hatem> Nobody ever will, under the current circumstances.

Jul-05-16  N0B0DY: <<Nobody had posted on the chess of Stumpers or Odd Lie or I Hatem> Nobody ever will, under the current circumstances.> All right, every one, let's get down to business!

That's a serious question, thanks to your recent behavior.

Tabanus: Hi <CG>, three of your house-trolls made off-topic posts yesterday on the Isidore Censer page.

Will you do something, or have you lost your mind?

Jul-06-16  Alien Math: tabanus at least cg doesn't delete/destroy biographs of players like you do
Jul-06-16  Abdel Irada: ∞

Attention, <chessgames.com> members:

If you see <Tabanus'> mind, please turn it in to <cg.com> Lost and Found Department.

Jul-06-16  Alien Math: tabs instead of trolling the site about every single page, <To be more constructive, I suggest NOTE: Do NOT use this page to report specific violations of posting policy. Instead, use the Whistle function located at the bottom of all kibitzing areas.>

Tabanus: Attention, <chessgames.com> members: If you see <Abdel Irada>'s mind, don't get near it. Leave it as is.

Hi <Alien>, CG has in fact authorized me to write bios (which I have) and delete them. This is not about specific violations of posting policy, it's about (examples of) the general posting policy, and its implementation. Pages like Isidore Censer are IMO nothing but an insult to the player and his family name. And when the site gets full of such pages, the whole site is an insult - to players, and even to chess.

I now remember a third case: Some years ago, I removed the info on Odd Lie, his birth date, nationality, etc. This was to anonymize him, and thus save him from being associated with Beavis and the buttheads.

If you haven't got my point now, I guess you never will.
