 | | OhioChessFan: Thanks for that. I was indeed interested in most recents but will it ever be available to all bio edits? |

 | | Richard Taylor: To see the World Championships alive (live streaming, I presume we can see the actual game here): is it necessary to pay $15 or whatever it is they want? Is there an alternative? |
|
Nov-10-16
 | | Richard Taylor: However, that all aside. As a long term paying member, I am entitled to a rational answer from <chessgames.com> to my query. [Nota bene: I haven't raped or molested any women or abused people of other races or advocated using guns (I want tighter gun control, I don't yet think it would be right or practical to abolish their use in the back waters etc), nor do I want walls stopping people from moving, or more money for big corporates, or am I wanting care for poorer people stopped or do I want to humiliate people of other religions or beliefs or ethnicities, and I respect women. So to repeat: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." ] |

 | | chessgames.com: Yes Richard, you are entitled to an explanation. I was hesitating answer your question because it largely depended on the opinion of the Honorable Judge Victor Marrero. In a hearing which ended a little more than an hour ago in Manhattan, it was decided that the injunctive relief sought to prevent Chessgames and other sites from relaying the raw move data was unfounded. Virtually every claim was rejected, with the judge adding "I know this area of the law very well." It is possible they will continue to press forward with a suit for perceived damages but they cannot prevent Chessgames nor any other website from relaying the move data. So to answer your question: if you want to see the official World Chess video and commentary, and the "3D immersive experience", there is an app that starts at $15 available from the official site: https://worldchess.com/nyc2016/. Chessgames has no problem in their attempt to commercialize chess, and if a 3D virtual-reality chess experience is what you want, that's the place to get it. If you prefer to watch Chess24's excellent video commentary that will be available at a URL we will be certain to post by game time. Members of the Internet Chess Club will be treated to a wide variety of commentators including Kingscrusher (Tryfon Gavriel), Larry Christiansen, Yasser Seirawan, Ray Robson, and many more. And of course everybody is welcome to view the games (100% free) on our Live Broadcast Page. Now that I know they aren't going to seize my webservers for broadcasting chess moves, I'll have that page set up in short order. <Note: I deleted a small batch of off-topic posts that sprung up around your query. Let's leave Rogoff material over on the Rogoff page, please.> |

 | | WannaBe: Well, only <CG.com> will have commentary by yours truly Wabbit. So there, phooey to them other sites!! =) (Should be worth the price of admission, alone.) |

 | | Richard Taylor: <chessgames.com> Yes I got carried away, for God sake let's forget all the crap I said years ago, people change...Of course I didn't want people to die...and chessgames I'll do a Trump it was the other guys who started it...
Mind you I did a Travis, oops, poor old TB!
But, I now think I see the crazy complications you are into. The law is sometimes an ass...but here you have an intelligent judge. That is the hope of the US...and the world, believe it or not, honest knowledgeable judges....It sounds as though cg.com you have it well organised... I don't like this 3-D nonsense, I will go for your broadcast and hopefully see some of it live. I know that the politics and business etc are complicated. Commercialize chess...I agree it probably has to happen...and I started a couple of businesses years ago so we all have dreams. But the draw back is when they have an Armageddon to decide just to please the Patricians and the Unwashed Others watching the the chess match...I feel it is almost impossible: chess isn't boxing...mind you boxing with all it's faults, especially in the "good old days". I suppose there's a parallel. yes they can all put the boot into me on Rogoff (poor old Rogoff, what does he think of all the nonsense written on his site? How many people play over his games?))) Oh well, here in NZ where a lot of Americans are trying to get, although I think that is over the top...here it will start for me and GM <Benzol> at about 8 am but I am not sure.... I just re-read that: one hour ago!! Incredible. Well, thanks for all this. One more thing, I am confused at the moment: what time in NY, that is NY (Eastern Standard) time does it start? |

 | | Richard Taylor: <WannaBe> Would you buy a ticket from these Agonists? I was thinking of it. I could afford it, but I dislike the sound of it (or them, I might be wrong). I feel they are, and I cant prove it, but they seem the wrong people to be running all this. They, my view, want to turn chess into a circus... (I understand they need to make money.)
However I also like to see the players live...Carlsen is amusing to watch. He sometimes seems to be asleep. Then when things get "technical" he sits up and he's on full power!! But in one game last match he turned up about 2 seconds before the game!! That was almost as exciting as the game itself. I don't think they allow any leeway just because they are who they are so to speak, or do they? Surely it's not down to a few seconds? |

 | | chessgames.com: <One more thing, I am confused at the moment: what time in NY, that is NY (Eastern Standard) time does it start?> It starts at 2:00pm New York Time (USA/Eastern.) There is a countdown clock at the official site (https://worldchess.com/nyc2016/) although I believe it is currently set to count down to the pre-game ceremony one hour early. |

| Nov-10-16 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> sometimes the law does work correctly. Chess moves themselves are viewed as facts - like relaying boxscores during a baseball game - the precedence having been long ago established. But the efforts to contradict occassionally surface: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/2... |

 | | Richard Taylor: <chessgames.com> Thanks. I think that translates to 7 am or so here. I hope it all goes well. I think it should be a good match. There seems to be a sense of good will between the players and a desire to play chess. Karjakin seems almost apologetic. A nice fellow. Both of them seem good young men. Let it start! |

 | | Richard Taylor: <technical draw: <Alien Math> Thanks for your help. The adware is more of a nuisance than a real threat so I'll just wait for my son to check it out since I might make it worse trying to fix it.
<OCF> You might have to revise your probability statement..> Hi Tech Draw. Not a good time for such problems. I was having trouble with my internet. Kept dropping off. The server people solved it I think. I think it was a fault on the local telephone circuit or the exchange. No idea. But I know it is really annoying. All the best for your issue. |

 | | chessgames.com: <more of a nuisance than a real threat> You may be right but do take it seriously. For example, I wouldn't use that machine for online banking. One day they stuff your browser with ads, the next day they sniff your password. It's a dangerous internet out there. |

Ah finally got through- <Daniel> I just sent you an email complaining that I couldn't get through at all during the game, and even now I'm timing out. Please help me I'm in Korea and nobody speaks English here except me. Merry Christmas! It's not to early to start shopping for my Christmas present eh? How long until we get the festive Christmas graphics and decorations? |

 | | OhioChessFan: Wish list while I'm thinking of it:
If I go to kibitz on the live game page, and decide for whatever reason not to share my scintillating words with the world, it'd be nice to have a link right back to the game page. |
