| Dec-08-16 | | zanzibar: Ha! Maybe I spoke too soon about others not having cache-type problems. ???
PS- <offramp> my Firefox is still in Comic Sans font - and I blame you! |
|
| Dec-08-16 | | zanzibar: Here's a link to a photo showing the problem:
https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/496/3... You can see that I used the same url for the two browsers: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... (i.e. the <profile> button link) Yet Chrome is out of synch with Firefox (which has the correct, expected view of things). |

 | | Annie K.: I had a similar problem with another site (comics) a few months ago... a small number of past dates somehow became "sticky"; loading the page would bring up a past date, then pressing refresh would bring up *another* past date, and the browser (Opera, in my case) would just cycle among a few of these past dates, and absolutely refuse to load the actual current date (while the url being requested was the generic up-to-date one, not an archive page). Very annoying. Eventually, deleting all my cookies from all versions of the site (with www and without www), and flushing my browser history at the same time, got rid of the problem (so I'm not sure which part did the trick...), and it never came back. Guess you could try that. Suspecting browser update originated changes to page loading frequency settings would seem to make more sense, but I don't argue with what works. ;) I am not having any such problems with <cg>, btw. |

 | | WannaBe: Back in my forum, (around last week or so) I recorded two pun of the day, because I, too was experiencing this. chessgames.com chessforum For a while, I coulda swear I was seeing two different puns in less than 24 hour period. (Alas, I wasn't paying attention, remembering the pun, so I started posting a log of time/date and pun in my forum...) Thought I was going cuckoo. |

 | | MissScarlett: When's the Christmas quiz starting, or has it been cancelled? How can we best arrange it for me to win at least 6 months' premium membership? |

 | | WannaBe: <MissScarlett> See: chessgames.com chessforum as a reference (point). |
|
| Dec-08-16 | | zanzibar: You know, I was a little happier thinking the issue was more isolated. Thanks <AnnieK>, I'll try your idea a little later tonight. Luckily, I can just delete the cookies for the one site (at least, I think so, with Chrome). |

 | | Tabanus: For the 8 events on the list above + about 8 more events, I replaced the *'s (which sometimes turn up on my screen for certain events) with ½-signs copied from the hopefully bullet-proof edit field of Dallas (1957). And found that all 16 edit fields got & # 189; (without spaces) after updating. But that's a secret. Hope it helped! |

 | | chessgames.com: So here's the moral of this story:
½ will always render as ½
½ will also always render as ½ HOWEVER ... if you see ½ on your screen, and copy and paste it, it might just turn into a gremlin, like ˝ (˝) or even stranger things, depending on what software you are copying from and pasting to. This means that if you want to copying and pasting ½ symbols is not recommended—you should prefer &189; or ½ instead—but if you really know what you are doing you can get away with copying and pasting the raw character in some circumstances. |

 | | chessgames.com: For those who have not received our 2016 Winter Newsletter: http://www.chessgames.com/newslette... May I point out this section:

 | | Tabanus: <CG> I just copied the 1/2 from Dallas 1957 and used it in one of my game collections. But there, after updating, the 1/2 sign did not turn into & # 189; (without spaces). It looked fine for a while, but then the * came back again. Now it's * and 1/2 alternating upon refreshing. |
