offramp: There are some ectopic comments at Veselin Topalov.

Nothing abusive or even offensive (IMO), just a bit NSFW and possibly rated PG.

chessgames.com: I might have deleted too much; as I started to get to where the discussion exploded there was perfectly fine on-topic discussion. At the end, however, the topic had stayed to gun control and the Nazis. I felt like some line had to be drawn but wasn't sure where.

I could even undelete the posts but I fear it turning into Rogoff Jr. again.

Dec-13-16  Nina Myers: <I might have deleted too much>

This can't be from the principle!

And keep doing and live with it!!

Dec-13-16  Big Pawn: <chessgames.com: I might have deleted too much>

I think so. The discussion was a relevant offshoot of what Topalov had said and, on the whole, I thought it was civil.

<I could even undelete the posts but I fear it turning into Rogoff Jr. again.>

As I stated in my last comment on that page, I thought we had said enough and if there was more to discuss, do it on the <rogoff> page.

It was a good discussion, or at least I thought so, and it wasn't very long.

MissScarlett: I don't see that London is 'going on'. More to the point, you haven't uploaded my submitted games. I grow impatient. Time is short.
Dec-14-16  zanzibar: BTW- a compromise proposal for maybe-errant posts:

Don't delete them (w/o warning), rather transfer them.

Eg. move those other posts over to Rogoff.

Or create a forum entitled <Misfit Island>.

Then you can't really be accused of unnecessary censorship in borderline cases.

People may squawk about the transfer, but the admin could squawk about the off-topicness in return.

Just my 2¢'s

Hey! Don't move your trash onto my lawn! It's already got enough.

chessgames.com: <The discussion was a relevant offshoot of what Topalov had said and, on the whole, I thought it was civil.> I never found it uncivil, I just didn't understand in what way it possibly could be on topic, until I finally dug back to the root of the discussion. (Perhaps I shouldn't read these things in reverse-chronological order?)

Of course, at the end, it was wildly off topic--which is mostly the reason to want to curtail that kind of talk to certain portions of the site.

  kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com

Is it worth adding games from the London Classic FIDE open?! Quite a few strong GMs in the event - very entertaining games are being played

http://www.londonchessclassic.com/

PGN available for the FIDE open on the PGN menu

Cheers, K

Dec-18-16  sonia91: The Nutcracker Match of the Generations is a strong event which surely deserves to be covered; players like Gelfand Morozevich, Shirov are for sure well known.

http://theweekinchess.com/chessnews...

This is the 3rd edition of this event, previous ones: Tournament Index search: "nutcracker"

This year there is also a women's section (Queens vs Princesses), where Alisa Galliamova, twice world women's vice champion, plays.

Dec-18-16  shrdlu: Is there a problem with claiming prizes from an Android phone? I went to the Hampton-Wall game for clue 37 but didn't see the prize box. (Looking back at earlier clues, I don't see the "you're too late" message either.

Interesting. I have a cell phone but I'm not sure if it's an "android."

I hope not. Wouldn't an android have the capacity to turn on it's owner, much like in the movie TERMINATOR amirite.

GREAT SCOTT

Brahs if you really *do* get tired of waiting whilst watching the "blue balls" dance before your post is published, I just discovered something important.

If you left click on the blue balls and hold the click down, and then move your mouse to left or right, it will carry the dancing balls across the screen, and when you let go of the mouse click, the balls will snap back to their original position, like a miraculous rubber band!

I'm pretty sure you all needed to know that.

Merry Christmas.

chessgames.com: Prizes are now able to be claimed from smartphones.

<shrdlu> Did you actually get there while the clue was live, and were robbed of a prize? I would be happy to give you an additional 4-month prize on your good word.

Dec-19-16  Octavia: Avatars: You've added a lot since last I looked! But now I love the Kirribati flag. Would it be possible to add it? If you had time you could even add all flags & put them in a separate file.

I tried to find Tania Sanchev but was told she doesn't exist. Did I misspell her name?

Dec-19-16  Alien Math: <Octavia: .. I tried to find Tania Sanchev but was told she doesn't exist. Did I misspell her name?> Annie K. found it,

For many of the players you can perform a google search and see if the naming is correct, sometimes google provides a corrected spelling, hope that helps
