Did I ask you do delete <saffuna's> posts where he takes the Lord's name in vain?

A yes or a no will suffice.

Let us not lose track of this simple point: <Saffuna> is here whining and crying about deleting posts he thinks are offensive, but I showed him to be a hypocrite, because he writes lots of posts that are offensive too!

Does that make sense?

  Stonehenge: Tata Steel Challengers (2022)

Thanks, but < 9 Players> is not correct.

There are 14 players.

<nine participants never played in Wijk aan Zee before>

  Tabanus: <Susan Freeman: <Tab> he promised to slow down and triple check.> Well, he didn't do what he promised, so much is clear.

Anyway, as a qualified in chess he should know they always have 14 players.

<Susan>

What about finding tech duties for him to do that have nothing to do with the database chess content?

I recommend hiring <tabanus> and <Stonehenge> as database czars. They knew exactly how <Daniel> ran the database. They are intimate with the history of the database. They know exactly what they are doing. They have already donated thousands upon thousands of man hours sheperding, maintaining, and protecting the chess content of our database.

I am sure the gentleman you have hired is a fine person, and probably knows about chess= but it's obvious by now he knows nothing about chess history as it is organized in this database. That would make him almost the worst possible choice as database czar- as he has now proven over and over. He should not have volunteer editing powers even, because he has no idea how chess history is researched, written and presented in our database. All he has done so far is increase the work load of stalwart volunteers such as <Stony and Tab>.

At the very least, please stop the bleeding. This would mean *actually* not letting him near any function that has anything to do with writing/presenting chess history data at cg.com. I can literally hear <Stony and Tab> with the lamenting and the rending of garments, and it pains me to see it.

<Susan>

If you listen to <Tabanus> and <Stonehenge>, and I think you should- he shouldn't be anywhere near the tournaments. He shouldn't be anywhere near a chess game. He should not be allowed to alter one piece of data on anything that has to do with publishing games/tournaments.

Have you not been reading the almost daily damage reports from <TabaHenge> that confirm he has no idea how to do the job, and worse, shows no sign of actually learning how to do it?

This is a critical moment.

<Stonehenge> I am guessing that Susan asks if you are interested in becoming a paid employee.

I believe the idea is that you take over some of the duties concerning the adding of new tournaments, editing them and writing them up for the front page? Apologies to both of you if I have any of this wrong.

I am guessing and really it's none of my business. I can only report that I would be thrilled if you joined the paid staff.

  Tabanus: I can't do it. I still have a job. I will retire from it later this year and stay in another country for longer periods, with other things to do. If someone else uploaded the new events in a managable manner I could continue writing intros perhaps, but only now and then.

Jan-13-22  George Wallace: It's interesting reading the comments regarding the challenges, problems and frustration involved in running this website.

No business ever operates smoothly all the time. It's simply the nature of work in general. I don't think <CG> will ever get to a point where everything is always okay, running as it should, no challenges, no problems, nobody making mistakes...it's just not how work goes.

I don't know how relevant that is to what's going on at <CG> at the moment, but just from reading the comments and concerns here from those involved in moving this website forward, well, that's just what came to my mind.

It appears from the comments written over the last couple days that there is a person working for <CG> who is putting in real effort, but is, unfortunately, entering tournament info the wrong way. Someone pointed out that some tournament always has 14 participants, not 9 (I've been into chess for decades and never knew that...).

I wonder - can an "idiot proof" list or set of instructions be written and given to new employees/volunteers, to steer them away from nooby mistakes? Could that be given to everyone who works here as an initial step in quality control and uniformity?

Would that help?

Ideally, you would want to break the jobs down into easily-accomplished tasks that almost anyone can do, for at least most of the work. Think of McDonalds. McDonalds is a multi-billion dollar corporation run by teenagers. That's the brilliance of their system. They compartmentalized the entire operation such that any Joe off the street can come in and do a particular job.

I wonder if somehow that approach can't be applied, as far as possible, to <CG>?
