<Susan>
I agree with you- <MissScarlett> has his head firmly on his shoulders. In future, I suggest listening to him, as opposed to listening to me. That's what I'm going to do anyways. Remember, without you we wouldn't even be here right now eh? |

Jan-15-22 | | George Wallace: < Tabanus: Another less extreme example: A) Gashimov Memorial (2021)
B) https://web.archive.org/web/2021123... (CG's version of 31 Dec.) B is good enough for Susan, George...> I never said that was good enough for anything.
I had three main points:
1. There's too much complaining because the reality of it is, work is never smooth sailing and perfect. 2. If a new contractor is doing the job wrong, it's not his fault. It's poor training. Train the people right and they will perform the job correctly. Neglect the training and you'll get poor work. 3. Write guidelines for all of the tasks that a contractor will have to deal with to ensure a minimum standard is met. Or don't do any of that and continue to be a secondary source of my amusement, as I watch the <CG> keystone cops fumble it all up over and over lol. |

I appreciate your input and find it valuable. |

 | | Tabanus: <Of course there is a minimal standard that many here want to see being upheld, but ...> Forget the rest: there is no but. Just common decency which prescribes a correct standings table and a where/when/who. <Write guidelines> Yes why not, but every event is different and so requires a certain amount of independent thinking. <Check It Out: <trd> I think <TheBirdman33> is <achieve>, though I can't remember why I think that.> And I think <Caisso> is <Susan>, prove me wrong. |

Jan-15-22 | | George Wallace: < <Write guidelines> Yes why not, but every event is different and so requires a certain amount of independent thinking.> So no guidelines have been written, no training, no nothing. No wonder cg is having the same problems over and over for years now. The basics are not in place. It doesn’t matter if every tournament is different. An intelligent person can write guidelines that ensure a minimal standard no matter what. Guidelines are written for real jobs that are far more complex than a tournament table for a website. Someone who is most familiar with the process and the common pitfalls should take 30 minutes to write the guidelines and be done with it. Then have the contractors do the work according to the guidelines. They should, as part of their training, be required to inform the overseer each time they complete a task. The overseer checks to make sure guidelines were followed and if there was a mistake, he <trains> the help by pointing it out, having them correct it, and resubmit the task. That’s how you set up a simple, easy system and train people. Good rules of thumb:
1. No one has common sense.
2. Expect even the most qualified contractor to always do everything wrong.
3. Guidelines and instructions need to be written ultra, excessively clearly and simply - totally idiot proof.
4. When the training phase seems complete, it’s really only 50% done. Talk about the contractors having no common sense…none of you have any common sense if we TS been this long and you’re still in Keystone Cops mode and no one has written any guidelines or properly trained the help. It’s been years now. |

 | | Caisso: I appreciate the criticism. We all learn from our mistakes. Just like chess. I am manually checking for repeat games till we get a better filtering system. |

 | | Caisso: Starting to use the tournament template suggested by Tabanus. Seems like an improvement for sure. Some of the entries to be filled might be a bit tricky but we will see as we go. |

Jan-15-22 | | TheBirdman33: <Tab>: <But CG never do any of this with the new events. Every intro you see is made afterwards (sometimes years after) by volunteer editors> If that is the way it's run, that is it. It used to be similarly run, but speaking of myself, I never truly realized and admired the quality of a Linares 1991 (like) page, or pages like that, if there are more alike, because you edited it for one of your game collections, which was a thing of beauty at the time (still is). So there you go you get that admiration from me after the fact, and you deserve the highest praise for said <achieve>ment. You shared it with Suenteus Po, and OCF, and it's < there>. The current saga is not of my main concern, I just wanted to sympathize with you, wish all the best, and draw some attention to the jungle in which we (you) have to operate. The first to blow the lid of my previous identity was Stony. Kudo's to him, and <JFQ> as in <Jess> I assume to have noticed in a heartbeat and a half who I was, all the best to her, we share the exact same passion for the site, even though both not from it's inception. I'm with <tab> and the old band of brothers and sisters, since this site was my online home, and Daniel of course had a large part in that, he was the provider. He led the way. May all be well and remain well, while I'll mingle among the many great tournament and gamepages that are still around. |

 | | Check It Out: Let's start by using that tournament template on the 84th Tata Steel compeition that just started today. It's a shame to have one of the most prestigious chess tournaments of all have zilch/nada/nussing in the header. |

 | | Tabanus: <TheBirdman33> Thanks for the admiration. My choice to write them. The new events (one by one coming) is another thing. I think filling out a template would be more of a joint effort. Will CG make a template for new events? |

Jan-15-22
 | | Tabanus: I could not resist editing 84th Tata Steel (2022) a little. Also I added chess24. I think there should be some more fields (for example Organizer, Chief arbiter, average rating (tournament category), etc.? Not all have to be filled out. |

Actually, I think this format presents the information in an easier-to-read way, rather than cramming all of this into a short paragraph. In this format, it can be scanned at a glance and digested. When I go to a tournament page and the tournament is finished, the main thing I want to see is who won. Then I'm looking for the list of participants and their scores. I also like the "view games" next to each name so I can see if any of the GMs played openings I'm interested in. All of the other info, like tournament directory, official site, and all that - not interested too much, and it's a chore to have to carefully read through that stuff to see if by chance there is something of interest in there. I think that's why I like this format, this list, as <tab> presented it. |

I was told that today.. lol. don't even remember saying that 30 years later
memories..
He fell for it |
