Sep-03-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: I've just got one question.. Did Daniel Freeman ever let <tpstar> the criminal administrate Wesley So's page?

It's a simple yes or no although I already know the answer. C'mon <Chessgames dot com>... give the people an answer, I speak on behalf of 99% of us (Apart from Bobsterfam3000 because he cray cray y'all lol)

saffuna: <ocf><I recognize the late Daniel Freeman wasn't always consistent, but his batting average was pretty good.>

I agree.

<And the bio is simply a travesty if you think of it as a historical document, which presumably it is.>

Exactly.

If they want to leave the bio as is, just put "Written by Wesley So" at the beginning or the end and the problem is solved.

Sep-03-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: Jim. If I see you kissing <MoralFilths> backside one more time you go on ignore too. I got no time for <idiots> anymore - apart from Bob because he's a very funny geezer, lol.

Real talk. Stop agreeing with someone who disagrees with everything you say, you dumb or what!?

Sep-03-18  Big Pawn: Uh oh!

<Tuna>? You have a high price to pay for <Winston's> valuable friendship!

<Dr Winston OBoogie: Jim. If I see you kissing <MoralFilths> backside one more time you go on ignore too>

You're not allowed to talk nice to <ohio>.

Let's see if <Winston> control's Jim now. Should be interesting. I love observing how liberals interact with each other in the wild.

Sep-03-18  zanzibar: <Chessgames> you know what I wish for... an ignore feature that prevents my posts from being seen by those I placed on my ignore list.

That way the weed undergrowth couldn't make pursuit and pollute from forum to forum.

.

Sep-03-18  Big Pawn: I've blown the whistle on <Zanzibar's> spamming of <Daniel Freeman's> player page. <Chessgames.com Admin> needs to clean up Daniel's page.

<Zanzibar> is advised to post technical support questions and concerns here at the support forum.

Sep-03-18  zanzibar: What, what!?

Get the roundup out boys and girls!

Sep-03-18  optimal play: <OhioChessFan: ... I dropped off the site for a year in protest ...> Did anyone notice you weren't here or was it like Zanzy's petulant departure in which nobody cared that he wasn't posting?

Anyway, regarding the Wesley So player page, I think a lot of the criticism is unfounded.

For example, immediately after a post by Wes himself, I posted some critical questions for him:

Wesley So (kibitz #212430)

He didn't answer me, but I wasn't banned.

<Dr Winston OBoogie: Jim. If I see you kissing <MoralFilths> backside one more time you go on ignore too.>

LOL!

Everyone get a load of Finan and his histrionics!

He makes that "threat" as if anyone gives a damn!

LOL! LOL!

Who the hell cares about being on Finan's "ignore list"?

It's not as if he's capable of having an intelligent conversation with another human being.

He's a total fruitcake!

LOL!

So's player bio completely omits his time at Webster University and being coached by Susan Polgar.

You think that's OK? What if Kasparov's bio didn't include the Kramnik match at Kasparov's request?

Sep-03-18  Big Pawn: <tuna: So's player bio completely omits his time at Webster University and being coached by Susan Polgar.>

Why does it have to have everything you want on it?

saffuna: <Why does it have to have everything you want on it?>

A bio should be historically accurate. As DF said, it is not intended simply to be a presentation of what the player wants included.

How do you like this, <big pawn>?

<Michael Jordan played basketball for Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Then he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls of the NBA and became an all-pro.>

You consider that historically accurate?

First of all Jim, let me congratulate you on having the courage to speak to me, since I am one of the thousands on Fruitcake O'Finan's ignore list.

You are now in grave danger of not having the "privilege" of intercourse with that Pommy nutcase again.

Now, as regards Wesley So's player page, I would make a distinction between his bio and the comments section.

Wesley's bio does look more like a hagiography, and I agree it should include all relevant aspects of his chess career, which includes of course Susan Polgar and Webster University.

Other than that, I think the monitoring of his player page has been quite fair.

Sep-04-18  Big Pawn: <tuna: How do you like this, <big pawn>?

<Michael Jordan played basketball for Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Then he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls of the NBA and became an all-pro.>

I don’t know who he is, beyond being familiar with his name.

I’ll just say that inaccurate information should be corrected. If the page says GM X was born in NYC and he wasn’t, then fix it.

But omissions aren’t inaccuracies, and there’s no reason to think that all bio pages need your approval.

Really. Even when it blatantly distorts the truth.

"Ronald Reagan was an actor and head of the Actors Guild. Then he was elected president."

You consider that OK in a Reagan bio.

Read what <ocf> wrote in the page above.

Well, So's bio says Tukmakov was his only coach. That's clearly an inaccuracy.

I was banned from the page shortly after I complained that the bio had made So's years at Webster with Polgar as coach disappear.

At least one other was banned after noting that So finished equal fifth at Tata Steel, not equal third as So had written on his page.

Absolutely agree with <saffuna> on this. Whoever is moderating <So>'s page should not be allowed to edit the bio so that Susan Polgar is eliminated. That is ridiculous.

Editing jobs should be left to actual editors like <JFQ> and <zanzibar>, just to name two prominent ones. And, my question is, why is his bio not changed by now? Do the editors control the editing, or some moderator whose changes cannot be corrected?

offramp: I remember years ago, MAD magazine summarised the Korean War like this:

<The Korean War was bad.>

‘Nuff said!

Sep-04-18  zanzibar: Despite catcalls from the peanut gallery (u-know-who-u-are), I intend to continue with the technical discussion.

But I'll take a moment to say that I think some people have been hard on the structure <Daniel Freeman> erected. Nobody is above criticism, of course, if constructively done (myself included, no matter how well-meaning I may or may not be).

Lord knows that many of my technical posts look like hard criticisms, but there is almost always forwarding outlines for actual improvements. And, importantly, almost always incremental improvements.

Thus far, none of the suggestions preclude continuing to use the old tools that <Daniel> implemented. E.g. bulk submissions should be an additional option, allowing biographers to continued use of the manual building of collections and old PGN submission processes.

There is a worthwhile read on redesigning software by Joel:

https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000...

I think it a good read, pretty much at any time, but also at this time of transition.

So, I want to once again emphasis that my proposals have been supplemental, thus far. But I will be making one technical change which is very important - but does involve a fundamental major change to the database structure itself.

(Of course, just to spoil the drama, this involves rationalizing the player names to conform with all other databases.)

OhioChessFan: <Focus: And, my question is, why is his bio not changed by now? >

I thought of having a go at it, but the work involved would be tremendous. I could change a few of the tournament results I know are wrong, but to go through every single one and correct it would be a massive undertaking.

Sep-04-18  Big Pawn: <zanzibar: Despite catcalls from the peanut gallery (u-know-who-u-are), I intend to continue with the technical discussion.>

He thinks he's having a discussion, but he's largely posting to himself, like <Nizzle>.

He fancies himself to be very important here, but when he left in a pout for one month, you know, to SHOW everybody, no one noticed or cared that he left!

Ouch!

That's humiliating.

<z> I'm really not sure what you are talking about here:

<But I will be making one technical change which is very important - but does involve a fundamental major change to the database structure itself.>

You are talking about your own website, not cg.com, right?

Or did you inherit cg.com and become the new commander in chief?

Either way I think standardizing player names to correspond to main usage in the other data bases is a good idea- but is there a way to find out which spelling is predominant across all of the databases?

Without such data, I'm not sure how one would proceed?

Sep-04-18  Keyser Soze: <Or did you inherit cg.com and become the new commander in chief?>

Oh he wants that very very much..

That is so racist, I should blow the whistle.

Why are we saying 'chief' instead of 'in charge'?

=))

Sep-04-18  Travis Bickle: To Whoever is in charge.. The bastard Big Pawn is spamming the Cafe with a wallpaper of *sic literature for the only reason but to block some music I'm playing.. I haven't been on here in about a week.. He's on here everyday! I don't think it's funny... In fact I know where he lives & I could hurt him bad.. But I don't wan't to do that.. I was minding my own business until he insulted me.. Which is fine but I don't like being wall papered with B.S. "literature" just because he's such a crazy A$$ho!e..
