Sep-01-18  Boomie: <Tiggler: <Pyke>, <rogge> not here ,please>

CG doesn't post here any more. I wonder what this forum is for now. Let it go to hell. It doesn't matter since CG isn't in the house and our suggestions for improvement are being ignored.

Sep-02-18  zanzibar: You guys ready for some more long dull technical posts yet?!

Not to worry, they're coming!

(Ignoramuses need not reply - the question above was rhetorical.)

saffuna: Everybody agrees a player should have complete control over his or her player bio, no matter how distorted?

If Nigel Short wanted all mention of his match with Kasparov deleted, that would be fine?

Sep-02-18  zanzibar: <saff> you'll have to allow the word-play fun without taking it seriously.

If you want to counter it, I'd suggest finding some wordplay of your own to make your point.

Or just post a lament on your part.

"Nobody understands me"

would be an obvious one.

saffuna: I was responding to <offramp>. Anybody who looks should form a pretty good idea why I was banned from the Wesley So player page.
Sep-02-18  zanzibar: <saff> yup. But what can you do? It's one of the quirks of <CG>, and <DF> probably make a mistake.

But we have the two extremes, Polgar being driven off <CG> being the other one. Daniel probably didn't want to repeat that, and erred too far the other way.

saffuna: Yes, I understand. But there is a claim here I harassed Wesley So. This is false.

saffuna: Thanks. But clearly some people do not know that.
Sep-02-18  rogge: Everyone knows that, and nobody denies it. Relax :)
Sep-02-18  TheFocus: <saffuna> I was banned from the <So> page just for saying that Wesley wasn't a very strong GM, just average.

That may have been the only post I ever made there, IIRC.

Sep-02-18  Big Pawn: The <tuna> has been banned repeatedly from different player pages throughout his time here at <CG>.

He's just a world class assjole.

He harasses the GMs and they ban him. Simple.

saffuna: <rogge> <zanzibar> So I should just let that pass because "everyone" knows it's false?
Sep-03-18  zanzibar: <Noone> is safe!

<Everyone> is doomed!

Or so <someone> once said...

<saff> - digging around doing those dumb <CG> history posts, I found this:

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #3333)

Personally, I kinda thought there should be two versions of a player's page - one they produce/moderate, and another that's the same as <anyone>'s.

One is indeed the looniest number!

Exactly.

You know, there are a lot of disagreeable people on this website, and there are a number of people who think that I am disagreeable too, but <Perf> is the only poster who is actually, truly hateful, bitter and ugly.

Like a raped woman, he will never get over me.

You know what I mean?

Sep-03-18  TheFocus: <Big Pawn> <Like a raped woman, he will never get over me. >

Never and he proves that with every post.

My post was only directed at <NOBODY>. I love it when he makes his little joke where somebody mentions NOBODY and he immediately turns up using his handle of NOBODY to make a joke about NOBODY. It is a ray of original sunshine!

offramp: <DWOB> Mrs Offy and I (no relation) laugh about it long into the evening.
Sep-03-18  JimNorCal: <chessgames.com on the DF page>: "The Chessbookie is another feature that needs to be re-activated, so to speak. We're actively working on it."

I have no authority to set agendas, of course. Fixing ChessBookie is great. Syncing Puzzle of the day's difficulty level with the day of the week is worthwhile too.

Still, for me and maybe for others, the heart of CG is the database of games. So my hope would be for renewed notification of upcoming tournaments and matches. And more importantly, adding games from recent tournaments to the database. One person's opinion.

saffuna: I would certainly like to see the policy for commenting on player pages set out clearly, what is acceptable or what is not. For example, DF thought the Wesley So page should function both as a fan page and as a serious page analyzing his games and career.

Yet it seems the people using it as a fan page intend to drive out people who are anything less than rapturous in praise of So. For example, at least one poster was banned simply because he pointed out that So did not finish equal third at Tata Steel (as he or someone posting for him claimed), but equal fifth.

Sep-03-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: You should just stop being an unrepentant rule breaker Jim, you're always trolling someone. Leave those GM's alone LOL 😂 #ThisPlaceIsMAD!

Check in Sargon!

OhioChessFan: I think concerns about player pages are far down the road. Whoever takes the reins is going to have to make a lot of decisions. I think most people would join me in hoping that things will pretty much stay the way they are.

I recognize the late Daniel Freeman wasn't always consistent, but his batting average was pretty good. As an example of the former, I dropped off the site for a year in protest of what I thought was a stunningly bad and inconsistent decision he made on a player page. So goes life. I would mostly agree with you per your concerns about the Wesley So page. Several people were banned by So, or his advocate, in a serious overstepping of authority IMHO. And the bio is simply a travesty if you think of it as a historical document, which presumably it is.

I guess that player page issues like that aren't a priority right now, but surely they are on the horizon. So does seem to be about the only player page in recent years with controversies like that, although the Ray Keene and Nigel Short pages have had their kerfluffles.
