in process; started 2024-01-27 17:19:54.
Please check again in about a minute.> It's not really an <ERROR> is it? Also - can one just wait for the update, or do you have to go back and keep trying until the engine analysis is complete? |

Jan-27-24 | | Messiah: <Also - can one just wait for the update, or do you have to go back and keep trying until the engine analysis is complete?> Keep trying. |
|
Jan-27-24 | | stone free or die: Well, that's a trying try, I'll admit.
But I find it's usually quicker to just copy the game into SCID and run locally. |
|
Jan-27-24 | | Messiah: Usin' an engine is not a great idea while a game is ongoing, in my opinion. Afterwards, yes, engines can be incredibly useful. |
|
Jan-27-24 | | stone free or die: There's no absolutes - it all depends on your purpose at the moment. Say, for example, if you wanted to check someone else's statement that there's a forced mate or draw and you don't see it. |

Jan-27-24 | | stone free or die: Let me expound a bit on using an engine...
Over on <CT> I always use an engine when posting analysis. It's a training site, and the accuracy of the play in a comment is tantamount. Here, the philosophy is different, and I approve of people posting incorrect analysis. In fact, most analysis on <CG> should be treated as circumspect. There's an opportunity from others to learn by trail and error - that is, if the other users adopt a constructive attitude. Still, I hesitate to post analysis off the top of my head, partly because there are stronger players here who have the interest and are better at it than me, but also because it's my nature to strive for accuracy. So my insights, such as they are, are almost always engine-checked. Aside - I've always liked <Phony>'s take on this, see his profile page. But besides my own proclivity for accuracy, there's another reason for me to be cautious when posting analysis. There are certain unpleasant posters who are simply roving the site, scrutinizing various member's posts, looking for the slightest error to gun down. [...] |

Jan-27-24 | | stone free or die: Case in point:
Hans Niemann (kibitz #1371)
Hans Niemann (kibitz #1372) < fredthebear: Typical error.> There's nothing humorous, insightful, education or constructive in such a comment. Who needs this kind of treatment I ask?

Jan-27-24 | | stone free or die: My approach, when someone makes a mistake - don't gloat over it, instead offer the correction or simply raise a reservation as concerns correctness. Even when the error is committed by an acrimonious member. Case in point - my now deleted posts in the <Diren--Pragg> game where a member claimed Carlsen didn't play <Tata Steel (2024)> because he didn't want to <"tarnish his legacy">. My posts had actual content - listing information by both the official site and Carlsen himself, explaining his absence from this year's tournament. In point of fact, it's unfortunate that <CG> deleted the thread. Yes there was acrimony, but it was fairly well weighed on one side versus the other. |

 | | FSR: I just submitted a game Vallejo Pons-Dominguez Perez, 2006 to the database. Please disregard. I somehow overlooked that we already have it. F Vallejo Pons vs Dominguez Perez, 2006. |

Jan-28-24 | | stone free or die: <MissScarlett: When was the Opening Explorer last updated?> The copyright notice says 2019.
(Shouldn't the page itself actually provide last update notification?) |

Jan-28-24 | | stone free or die: When are we going to get a <verbatim mode> in <CG>? Reykjavik Rapid (2004) (kibitz #42) [Do we have to constantly struggle to get xtabs lined up, or use HTML entries to fix up PGN copies?] For all the improvements I got <Daniel> to implement, I think asking for this one from <Susan> is both doable, and overdue. Please <Susan>, could you ask <steve> to make this one implementation / improvement just for me (and all the other <CG> users)? . |

|
Jan-28-24 | | Messiah: <stone free or die: Uh oh.> Another very meaningful comment, full of content. |
|
Jan-28-24 | | stone free or die: <<Messiah> Another very meaningful comment, full of content.> As is yours.
The content of mine belies the context of experience - it should serve as a precautionary note for whoever is tasked with the assignment of resolving Winter's complaint. Yours, on the other hand, is simple-minded, trying-to-settle-old-scores, trolling. Rather predictable.

|
Jan-28-24 | | Messiah: I have inspected https://www.chesshistory.com/winter..., and it seems CG isn't afraid of openly presenting plagiarized content. There are no words anymore... What a conduct! If only the membership cash went to copyright fees! |

Jan-28-24 | | stone free or die: Not sure exactly what you're saying there <Messiah>... |

 | | MissScarlett: I think he's calling for sanctions against <fredthebear>. However, I see nothing in contravention of the posting guidelines. |
|
Jan-29-24 | | stone free or die: <<Missy> However, I see nothing in contravention of the posting guidelines.> Well, there's this guideline:
<4. Nothing in violation of United States law.> As you're surely aware, copyright law applies as law, even if it's usually handled as a civil offense rather than a criminal offense. (US law largely following British common law to begin) My question is whether Winter can legitimately claim copyright over Napier's original material which is now in PD. There are questions. Despite these question - which I'd be happy to discuss - there's always the unwritten rule of attribution in the civilized world. Of course, that's an unwritten guideline, I suppose. . |

 | | fredthebear: Punish Fredthebear for telling the truth about troublemaking sock puppets who lie non-stop and harass paying members repeatedly, and their biased (lacking integrity but left in charge) cyberbully editor pal that punishes Fredthebear on Z free's behalf even though sfod has always been a wrongdoer since inception. CGs refuses to clean these forums -- an unflushed pit toilet where sfod sits daily polluting this website with diuretic non-sense, while allowing sfod to change account names and post as <zanzibar>, Real Dump Trump, Z free legend, Zoo Boo Bear, etc. etc.? Paint it anyway you like, but it's still organized harassment against Fredthebear, pure and simple. Tell us, oh do tell us, when was the last time somebody punished the off-topic Z free for being an absolute polluter of all things non-chess? Once in a blue moon if that, and it usually comes from Susan. (Well, Peter tried to be an honest man back in 2022 before he got sucked.) If CGs would have taken care of its litterbug problem all along, FTB would not be here defending myself. Let's recall the summer of 2023 when the sock puppet master Z was missing. So peaceful. Let's recall October 2023 when Z free returned and started spreading the same old scree. Instant problems, just what Z wanted for negative attention. And on it goez. So <STOP the pretentious righteousness ! !> We all know better. Troll master and management can unjustly harass FTB's account all it wants, but that does not change the truth about the corruption of this scratch-your-back racket. Salute to Malala and Dr. Jim ! ! |
|
Jan-29-24 | | stone free or die: Oh, dear, where to start?!
<Let's recall the summer of 2023 when the sock puppet master Z was missing. So peaceful.> Oh sweet nostalgia, one forever yearns for the soft focus of the days of youth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTU...
OTOH, I was actually still checking in from time to time, and distinctly remember <Fred> involved in a few imbroglios with other members - need I bother to mention them? Nah. But let's note that all the sock discussion, and era of peace, is as stale as the last baked loaf of Wonder Bread. . |
|
Jan-29-24 | | stone free or die: But, let's note that the current thread, while still involving <Fred>, really has nothing to do with me. I'm not sure if <Fred> understands this yet. * * * * *
And, in passing, let's also note that it wasn't me saying this: <I think he's [i.e. Messiah] calling for sanctions against <fredthebear>.> . |
