   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

OhioChessFan: Odie and have honored you in haikuic verse on your games page. Surely giving 30 seconds of the best minute of my life is worth a mention on Opposition and Sister Squares.

You've ably managed
That secular miracle too.
Just: in reverse!

jessicafischerqueen: Some say the <haiku> is too "long winded", and that the <koan> should be favored.

Here is one from <Leonard Koan>

"And the Holy Dove,
Was moving too"

NINE (count 'em)

Domdaniel: As I think I mentioned before, I prefer the Limeraiku -- combining the rhyme scheme of the limerick with the syllable count of the haiku.

A slightly sanitized example:

There's a vile old man in Japan
Who roars at whores
'Where's your effing fan?'

jessicafischerqueen: If you and <JFQ> want to write dirty Limeraiku there are plenty of Japanese porno sites for that.

jessicafischerqueen: Here is the most popular one:

http:///www.I_Like_Jap_Huskies.org

Jul-14-09  Ragh: I see there a fashion parade going on here. Forum banners parading across the runwayku.
Jul-14-09  twinlark: Is http:///www.I_Like_Jap_Huskies.org working? My browser is giving me a Page Load Error. Anyone else having this problem?

This is the second browser failure I've encountered this morning (the other being a news story) and I'm a bit worried the Australian government's pilot internet censorship program is causing access difficulties. It's purportedly aimed at blocking kiddie porn sites, but seems to have a much larger reach.

jessicafischerqueen: <Doggimus> don't feel bad- I've made like 900 fake URLs at this site, and I just got sucked in yesterday too-

<Ragh> planted a fake <UserILIKEHUSKIES> in my forum and I went for it.

Doh!

  OhioChessFan: If they are blocking
The kiddie porn then I bet
Pete Townshend is mad
Jul-15-09  mack: Have you not heard the recent news? Pete was innocent! Dodgy popups or somesuch.

Not that this makes any less funny the pseudonym Robert Pollard and the boys played under in 2006, shortly before opening for Pearl Jam. That is, 'Townshend Research'.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Doctor>!!!

The "double reverse"-

I was so convinced you just posted a fake URL that when a real website popped up I almost fainted.

Unfortunately for me, it's all in Korean since the "default" language for all Google Blog platforms is always the language of your IP address and you can't change it.

<Dom> do you remember the first time I got you with the "fake URL" ploy?

You posted:

"I got one of those huffy 'cannot connect to the server' messages."

Then I told you that meant your computer was broken.

Good times.

jessicafischerqueen: Also, I think it's testament to the mysteries of the human spirit that people might readily believe that <I Like Jap Huskies> could be the name of a Japanese porno site.

The main Japanese brand of dog is of course the infamous "Mullet".
