 | | jessicafischerqueen: Heh- Yes, the <karate> tag in the URL might be misleading to martial arts enthusiasts... BTW if any are interested in the most outrageously flagrant celebration of pedophilic images and stories, you can simply enjoy Japanese Saturday morning cartoons with the family. Do you think I'm kidding?
I'm not. |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: Yeah, the karate tag *is* misleading, but I thought it added a certain piquancy. Or irony. Or the verbal equivalent of whatever chefs add a pinch of. Strychnine, maybe? The link - as anyone brave enough to click on it should know by now - leads to a discussion of <pink samurai>, whatever that is. Actually, I've read it. The book. Not bad. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Did you know that you and I are the only people who use the word 'huffy'? Well, Boomie did once, but I think he was quoting you. Odd, that. |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: "huffy," as <I'm too Lazy to Look it up in a Real Dictionary> readers will already know, is only in Canada now. Oddly, however, America's <Ariana Huffington> is in fact "huffy", and she runs, arguably, the "huffiest" mainstream liberal propaganda website on the planet. Not that there's anything wrong with being "huffy". |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> meanwhile, back in the "realer" world, have you considered this recently? "Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes...
Come on down to the river of sight,
And you can really understand..."
Can you hear the sirens moan?
Only in Canada. |

Of course, he's playing it in England, strictly speaking. Bloody Poms. They do seem to like good music though. |

 | | Domdaniel: I was going to sign my previous post <Mr Huffington>, but then I thought "Why drag *those* people into it?" <Only in Canada> ... The 'Badlands Guardian' in Alberta. Greatest geomorphological face on the planet. There used to be a rock formation in New Hampshire - a sort of natural Mt Rushmore - known as 'the old man of the mountain'. Early in the 19th century, Daniel Webster said that men put out signs to advertise their trade, so a shoemaker has a sign like a shoe ... "and god almighty placed this sign in the hills of New Hampshire to show that here he makes Men". But the old man collapsed in 2003. The almighty has pulled out of the man business, and who would blame her? And don't get me started on BVM treetrunks and the Holy Toast. |

Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: Now I'll have to change the forum name to <Apopheniacs Anonymous> or <Pareidolia, Paranoia & Par-boiling> ... |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Dead man lying by the side of the road >
So *that's* what 'Roadkill' was about ... |

Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: In draughts/checkers, where captures are mandatory, a piece may be removed from the board for failing to make a capture. This is known as 'huffing' or 'making a huff'. If chess was huffy, there wouldn't be any declined gambits. [with a mighty heave, he was back on topic ... kinda ...] |
|
| Jul-15-09 | | twinlark: So are you guys the new Huffington Post Office? |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Torque & Timezones> Midnight in Copenhagen, 23:00 in Cork, Wednesday afternoon in Vancouver, Thursday morning 0700 in Korea. All this temporal confusion.
And on such a small planet. |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: And 07:30 in Adelaide. Aussies and their finicky little half hours ... |
|
Jul-15-09
 | | Domdaniel: And so to logout. |
|
| Jul-15-09 | | twinlark: The opposite of which is China where it was 06:00 throughout. South of China in Korea it was 07:00 and one metre west of the border in Pakistan it was 04:00. Also 06:00 in Tibet is 03:45 in Nepal. |

| Jul-15-09 | | mack: <Of course, he's playing it in England, strictly speaking.> As he was at the end of last month, when I saw him at Glastonbury.* In between hits one of my friends was repeatedly shouting for his two favourite Neil Young songs: 'Helpless! Old Man! Helpless! Old Man!' NY (I *heart* NY) reprised the chorus of 'Rockin' in the Free World' at least four times. Bodily innervation ahoy! It's not a short song, of course, but on this occasion it lasted about twelve minutes. Officially, anyway. Part of me wonders whether he's not still pretending to end it over and over again in a bedsit somewhere and then punching back:** 'Keep on rockin' in the freeeee world...' * Relax kids, it was a free ticket.
** Hey, it's worked for most of us. |
|
| Jul-15-09 | | mack: And so to ragout. |
|
Jul-16-09
