| May-28-07 | | WBP: <Jess> Just a quick note en passant. Your Favorite Kibbutzes (top of the page) has a misquotation. You have <What the hell is a GMNS>. However, Samikd's pecise phrase (March 22 in your forum) was <What the hell is GMNS>. IMHO, the absence of of the definite article in Samikd's original imbues GMNS with a stranger, more bizarre or ominous quality (like a creepy malaise or condition). Trying to maintain academic rigor, though not in <Eyal's> league yet. |

| May-28-07 | | achieve: <She made several questionable moves - a clear instance, I think, was a bit later than Nd5, when she played 34...Kh6? (instead of Kg6)> Yes, that was another instance where I raised my eyebrows.. Btw I watched it on ICC and predicted Bareev's a4! Seemed the most natural move to me.. For what that's worth anyway. Still great respect for the girl-turned-mother GM!
Btw <Eyal> I posted about her on your page as well at the same time.. Carlsen turned out to notch an easy draw with the Benko Gambit.. |
|
| May-28-07 | | Eyal: <Niels> Actually, engine analysis indicates that 29.Nd5! (that is, a move earlier than actually played, before Judit started pushing her h pawn for counterplay) would have been stronger than a4. |
|
| May-28-07 | | achieve: <Eyal> Well, there you are.. Lots of ply's required to come to a perfect eval at move 29 then.. I *felt* a4 would have secured an extra piece, figuratively, a bit earlier.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: g'day,g'day choke, gurgle etc.
<Joe> thanks so much for sharing those hilarious "conversations." Good for the NY Times!! It sounds like a post from <CG.com> to me. Or some of them at least. <swinish sycophant> heh... a very fine epithet/insult. Reminded me of my favorite part about <Niteszhe>, his frequent <ad hominem> attacke on other people. My favorite is when he refers to <Kant> as <that catastrophic spider>. Hahahah!
I'm very curious to know what the original German line was. The line is from <The Antichrist> translated by you know the guy... dang. <Walter Kaufmann>? Does that sound right? Anyways always a pleasure to see you.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: So <Judit> and <Magnet> definitely seem to be underdogs. I like underdogs, as well as <wiener dogs>, of which <Niels> has one that can jump more than five feet in the air!! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Martin Calhoun>?
Wasn't he one of your Presidents?
Hmmm.. not going to GOOGLE the name cuz I feel like I should know it. Outlaw? Secretary of the Treasury?

Now that' just sad. (blushes)
Anyone read <Mepamorphesis>? Good storie! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Plato> quick recap: <Cavs> = groveling privileges <Anand> v <Kramnik> Dortmund= groveling privileges <Candidates 6/8> = gloating privileges. One idea- If <Anand-Kram> tie for first (distinct possibility), or if we both score 6/8, i propose a <double grovel> and/or <double gloat> rather than a neutral situation where neither of us has to do it. Ties are so boring!
I'm in these bets not to prove I'm the better predictor (obviously I'm not- I've had to grovel twice)-- I'm in it for the groveling/gloating.
Statistics say I have to get you eventually, unless you stop betting. But we have two on the table, good enough for now.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> Nighty night indeed! You seem to know a lot of English idioms! Is there a <Nederlander> version of "night night" or "nighty night?" |
|
May-28-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal> thank you for your generous comments on my <bookmaking> essay. I'm not familiar with the <Pascal> hypothetical, so I WILL in fact GARDLE that for the answer. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal> LOL <pissing match>. Reminds me of <Montreal> (yet again). My (mainly male) pals used to get roaring drunk and begin arguing over "what tiny Ontario town is east or west of another tiny Ontario town." My fried <Mike> got so drunk once that he actually switched sides in the argument without realizing it. I (sober) noticed, then they all started laughing. Then they'd immediately started in on another topic that could have been clered up in three seconds with GOOBLE. Ah, University days!
<Seinfeld>
"Ahh we have a topic!"

You castle kingside? Brave of you to leave "theory" so early in the game. Now I count six tempi up for me--
Expect a withering kingside assault starting in a few minutes!! Jess the rabid badger |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Elixir of Life> Good show my old friend! Once more into the breach with just a day's rest, eh? So our match is on, I take it, first to 6 points?
Can't wait. So you look to spaghetti your biship on g2, eh? Don't know if I can allow that to happen.
will post my move in a few minutes (hours?) after I've woken up. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal> g'day, g'day! What is the literal translation?
Did <Kaufmann> (if he's the right guy) translate literally? Jess of the knows little German.
<Gesamtkunstwerk>!
<Bless you>!
Heh |
|
| May-28-07 | | achieve: <Jess> <Is there a <Nederlander> version of "night night" or "nighty night?"> Yes! Here it comes, hang on..
<Welterusten> (Three words put together as one.) What etymology can you find in there?
Or:
<Slaap lekker>/<slaap zacht> <Goede nacht> is another. |
|
May-28-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Verhängnis> Very interesting!! I GARDLED it.
So it means <fate, often with connotation of doom>. So <catastrophic> is an inventive translation for sense rather than straight transliteration. <catastrophic spider>
Spider who causes doom of humanity.
You are familiar with the <Faulkner> character, and Indian named <Doom>? From <D'homme>?

| May-28-07 | | Eyal: In context it's:
Kant wurde Idiot. - Und das war der Zeitgenosse *Goethes*! <Dies Verhängnis von Spinne> galt als der *deutsche* Philosoph, - gilt es noch! The more-or-less literal translation is:
Kant became an idiot.—And such a man was the contemporary of Goethe! This calamitous spinner of cobwebs passed for *the* German philosopher—still passes today! |

May-28-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: fate-doom-calamity
Got it! Thanks for the scholarship <Eyal>. Do you speak/read German as well by any chance? <Eyal> of the many languages |
|
May-28-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels>
<welt> world
<rusten> bucolic?
So it would be "World in the country" as the literal phrase? That's guess number one. |
|
May-28-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: LOL <Kant-idiot> |
|
| May-28-07 | | Eyal: <German> Not very fluently, but I did have to learn it in order to work on Kafka (at least to be able to check accuracy of translations). |
|
| May-28-07 | | achieve: <Jess>It can be divided in three: wel =
te =
rusten =
Phonetically it's quite close to Englisch.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: And <Shagspr> as well as an expert "insulter." In Grade 12, when forced to read <Julius Caesar>, we discovered we enjoyed it, mainly for the insults. We went around saying this to each other for months:
<You rock, you stone, you less than sensate thing>! heh.
Anyone else know any "classic" or "literary" insult-artists of note? Post an insult from a famos person here folks!! if you like. |
