Aug-31-07  Ragh: How is Korean chess played? Do we have to swim across that river you mentioned. I prefer downstream.

And how is it like being in Stone age.. You sound like you really did some time travel. It must be early morning right now there, so the Jet lag is doing its magic probably.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Bill>!

How the heck are you?

Yes, TV is important in the <Homer Simpson Age>.

My "apartment" is third world quality but it has a wicked big Deewoo TV in it with cable.

Who knew?

jessicafischerqueen: NO Jet lag is over.

Luckily, I got a bad cold so the germs killed my jet lag.

Things move slowly here where I am.

No one in much of a hurry.

I don't know the rules of Korean chess but they are on Wikipeia of course.

Aug-31-07  chessmoron: What other cool places did you go in Daegu?

Orientation was at a camp on the <Korean Sea>

(never, ever say "Sea of Japan" here).

The waves were a good six feet high.

There were soldiers patrolling the beach instead of lifeguards.

Dressed all in black, carrying machine guns.

At dawn, many locals went to the beach to face the rising sun and do Tae Kwon Do.

jessicafischerqueen: Oh and there appears to be no crime here.

Except for cell phones.

If you don't keep your cell phone in your pocket and then nail it to your thigh it will be stolen inside of five minutes.

They are very expensive.

i don't have one yet.

jessicafischerqueen: Yes, there is actually no river.

The central rank is where the chinese river used to be.

Elephants are alowed to cross this "invisible river", unlike in Chinese Chess

WannaBe: There's no river, but a big friggin' mountain in the middle of the board, and the elephants <CAN> cross it.

Bwahahahaha...

jessicafischerqueen: yes, I will be in the country for a year now.

I will go to Daegu on the weekends to party in karaoke (noriban) bars with my friends.

While in the country, I will frolic with shoats and drink paddy water.

Sep-01-07  brankat: <I will go to Daegu on the weekends to party> And I thought You'd said You were gonna save a lot of money ;-)
Sep-01-07  achieve: Hi <Jess>!!

  jessicafischerqueen: hello <niels> and <dr. Lecter>!!

I met the prinicipal on Friday. I think he gave me the stink eye too.

He doesn't speak a word of English, but luckily part of my duties include teaching him and the other teachers English.

Soon he will be ordering <hovercrafts full of eels> for lunch.

Nobody gives me the stink eye and gets away with it.

  jessicafischerqueen: HEY!

Where is everyone?

I looked at a World time Zone web page but I can't make head or tail of it cuz i'ts all written in "military time" style.

Does anyone know a time zone page that uses "normal time notation"?

Unfortunately I'm too lazy to click on the link you kindly provided.

Ahhh who doesn't love a sunday?

Sep-01-07  Ragh: Jess, you don't have to click that link. Just hover your mouse on it and think of a place that you want to find the time of, and you will get the answer underneath.
