 | | Eggman: Hello, JFQ. Where in Canada are you from? |
|
| Sep-25-07 | | twinlark: hey jess...the buckley "book"...may i ask what that was about? |
|
Sep-25-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Eggy> I'm from <Vancouver> but at the moment I'm in <hyunpoong>, South Korea. |
|
Sep-25-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Doggimus> It was merely a jest-- to my knowledge <Buckled> has never written about Gorillas. But I think he should, don't you?
I wonder if he despises <Ann Coulter> as much as everyone else... |
|
| Sep-25-07 | | twinlark: <jessicafischerqueen> We don't get much exposure to either Buckley or Coulter in this country, thankfully. We have about 100 right wing commentators here for every leftie and they're all extremely tedious. |

 | | Eggman: <<Hi <Eggy> I'm from <Vancouver> but at the moment I'm in <hyunpoong>, South Korea>> Oh. I'm from Toronto. When you said you were from Canada it made me wonder whether we could have crossed path. Now that you are in, of all places, South Korea, this seems all the more unlikely! |

| Sep-26-07 | | Eyal: <Jess> Btw, you can now see the games of the clash between the Titan Robots here: Clash of the Computer Titans (2007). One of the games has 180 moves, and two others 110 and 129! Where is Will Smith when you really need him? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal> good grief. Thanks for the link. Here is my analysis of Rybka vs Zappa, 2007
<sanyas>: I think 120.f6 was the losing move. <jessicafischerqueen>: no, clearly move 780 was a slight error. This game illustrates that high level computer "chess" is clearly not an example of any kind of "thinking" whatsoever. This display is so far from bona fide "artificial intelligence" it almost makes the <Stephen Speilberg> film look good. And it isn't.
This is not chess. It's just ugly. On moves 340-900, for example, the white king wanders around the board like an ant who has lost the chemical trail back to his <anthill>. It's enough to make your skin crawl.
I'd like to see <Zappa> play <Schwarzenegger>. At least <Arnold>, who has all the personality of a block of wood, is still human. Arguably.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: And how dare they name "it" after the great <Frank Zappa>? I mean really.
Now, a computer named after <Ed Rybka>, inventor of the <spiral potato peeler>, that makes more sense, of course. |

| Sep-28-07 | | BishopofBlunder: <jessicafischerqueen: ...But the flame burned stronger in him than all the rest. The <Kasparov> of literature, in my view.> While I hate to argue with such a beautimously written post, I must say, if you are going to compare Faulkner to a chess player, <Capablanca> would be the one. Just one man's opinion. Half a man, some would say... <My Dear Jess>,
Glad you are having fun in Korea. Keep those cards and letters coming. Yore Frend, and spelling champeon,
Da Bishop |

| Sep-28-07 | | Elixir of Life: <Jess> I'm so EXTREMELY sorry that I suddenly walked out of our correspondence game. It's been first the test, then 15 days at a youth camp and then the computer broken for another month and a half. I have still been able to read this site intently from other computers, but I didn't have much time to post. I'm EXTREMELY SORRY. My apologies; from your point of view, it must have been like I was wiped off the face of Mother Earth. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My Dear <Bishop>,
Yes, another <rare appearance> by <Da Bishop>! I don't think <Faulkner> ever saw <Casablanca>, although I understand many enjoy the film, not to mention the city. Regards,

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <My Dear Elixir>
Not to worry! I hope this "youth camp" was on the up and up, and didn't involve any <communist indoctrination> or the <selling of cookies door to door>. No worries on the Correspondence Games-- I had to fold up four of them at once cuz I was burning out. I've only been playing chess "live" on Yahoo these past few months. But you'll be pleased to know my <Yahoo> rating is now well over <300>. Regards,

| Sep-29-07 | | Elixir of Life: <But you'll be pleased to know my <Yahoo> rating is now well over <300>.> LOL :)
<Not to worry! I hope this "youth camp" was on the up and up, and didn't involve any <communist indoctrination> or the <selling of cookies door to door>.> It was a military camp, but it turned out to be much more fun than I thought. We were taught how to rescue hostages - though in our 3 simulations we failed miserably. Our instructor said that the hostages would be killed if we did what we did. Well, not really my fault is it? If my teammate has not misread my sign language... he thought I said "dog" instead of "criminal". We charged into the room where the hostage was only to find one of our teammate outside the room asking "which dog are you talking about". :) |

| Sep-29-07 | | JoeWms: Jessica, I posted one for you at my place.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: yes, and well quoth as well <Mr. Wms>. We need all the accurate information on the <tiny Republic of Togo> as possible, of course. Hats off to another fine <faux history>! |

| Sep-29-07 | | Ragh: JFX, Did you notice that the top banana became the Unified World Champion today? Congrats on winning your predictions and tons of chessbucks!! |
|
Sep-29-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi RAH!!
heh yes <BAnana> won as pretty much everyone else in the world predicted. YOU KNOW I WASTED all my chessbucks betting on the great <Jan Timman>. sigh.
He's still great, IMO.
hope you are ready for halloween.
3 and a half - 2 and a half <Tal>, with <Tal> taking the white pieces. I am ready for <Petrov>. Try something else?
Try that <Sicilian> thingy again. Heh.
My new strategy is to beat you with <white e4> and take the championship. Regards,
Mikhail Tal |

| Sep-29-07 | | WBP: Hi <Jess> Just passing through. Enjoyed your Faulkner post from a few days back. You probably already know this, but from what I understand, he actually used flow charts pasted around the walls of his room when he was writing a novel, each chart following the narrative of a specific character or plot element. Helped him coordinate everything, I suspect. Some really interesting games came out of Mexico, and Anand really was remarkable, showing much precision at times, gradually increasing his advantage when he had it, and defending really well when on the disadvantage. |
|
| Sep-30-07 | | Ragh: JFY, So you seem to remember the match scoreline very well. I was a little ecstatic when you said that you forgot about the score and so I replied proposing we start with a fresh slate. sigh. OK, Kramrich seem to have pretty much solved the Petrov puzzle to the dead end, so I am abandoning the idea to play it until I really play it. Till then, Halloween set go! |
|
| Sep-30-07 | | brankat: <jessica> <I am ready for <Petrov>.> Only some 2-3 days ago (I think at Niels's forum), Open Defence advised us of a new Chess book on the market: "How to spice up Your Petrov", by MRS.Kramnik :-) |
