Nov-10-07  Eyal: <When you've got extra material, like here, the best way to kill the game off is often with quiet moves. Exchange pieces and offer more exchanges. Try to neutralize possible enemy threats in advance. Don't let him get any initiative going...>

Btw, I've discovered in chessbase database a recorded game where this Bxf2+ sac was played, with White following quite closely the spirit of Dom's advice:

[Event "GER-ch U10"]
[Site "Ueberlingen"]
[Date "2000.06.03"]
[Round "9"]
[White "Fuchs,Judith"]
[Black "Katte,Nicolas"]

  jessicafischerqueen: <Hi again CAPIN1!!>

Thanks so much for digging that game up for me. I will examine it tomorrow while warming up for the two games I shall play on <Yahoo>- one with White and one with Black.

Right now I'm "taking a break" by resuming my slow journey through <Bled 1959>. I just finished a <Tal-Petrosian> draw of 11 moves.

What's up with that? Conspiracy? Rope a dope?

I bet it "Teed off" Fischer, I tells you.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi again <Deffi>!

Nope, but good guess.

The EMU, OSTRICH, CASSOWARY, DREAD MOA, PENGUIN, DODO, et al are not in fact "flightless birds".

They are all extinct now, not just the MOA. They got extinct from <global warming> caused by the <internet>.

Ironically, these are all names for <emails> now.

Who knew?

Nov-10-07  achieve: Yes, those quiet moves are huge - they allow you (if you understand endgames) to win a certain position WITHOUT allowing your opponent - no matter how strong he/she/it is - A SINGLE REMOTE CHANCE of recovery.

You'll ride to victory as <smooth as silk>

jessicafischerqueen: Heh another great tournament to <not be able to watch> due to having to "work for a living."

Dang it I wish someone would pay me to watch chess tournaments.

That would be a good job.

What do you do?

Well, I'm a "tournament watcher."

jessicafischerqueen: OMIGOD I"m so excited I almost stepped on my computer!!

The mighty <Kingscrusher> has just asked me to send him the game score of my win you have all so kindly helped me analyze.

HE'S GOING TO DO A <YouTube> video on it!!!!

Good Grief I'm so excited I don't know how I'll be able to sleep.

aRGGGH.

Maybe I'll stay up all night playing 5/0 Blitz or something....

<Niels>!!!

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Niels>! Hi <Lars>!

I'm too excited to sleep.

I'm still playing over the suggested improvements supplied by our friends here and by Kingscrusher as well.

I can't wait to play my two games tomorrow on <Yahoo>!!

Arooo

Does <Lars> ever say "Arooo"?

I think dogs say that sometimes.

Specially "Spartan" dogs.

You know, 300 brave <weiner dogs> gave their lives at <Thermopylae> to delay the mighty <Persian Invasion>.

<Lars> has a very famous pedigree!

Nov-10-07  Open Defence: how does one create videos like what Kingcrusher does ? would like to create some myself

jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> I don't know how to do it, but if you register as a <YouTube> member (free, and takes about a minute), you can subscribe to <kingscrusher> videos and send him a message (via Youtube) asking him how to do it.

He's an exceedingly helpful fellow and I bet he would be happy to tell you how to do it.

If you make some videos I will become your first subscriber.

Nov-10-07  achieve: More like AROOOOAARF

He just watched alongside me as I played the vid...

I think even the mighty kingscrusher was mistaken on just one or two occasions - I will point them out when I have some more time... But indeed the position screamed for a3 at one point...

Btw do you have to teach romorrow?

Nov-10-07  Open Defence: hmmm will try :)

jessicafischerqueen: Heh look forward to your expert comments as always <Niels>!

No teaching tomorrow, its Sunday tomorrow here.

I will play two games on <Yahoo> and enjoy myself.

I won't be able to play again after that until next weekend.

After work, I'm way too mentally drained to play chess.

But I can still study on YouTube!!

<Chess-fo-tainment>, I calls it.

Heh

Nov-10-07  achieve: I wrote a3 mistakenly - that should have been < h3 > of course...

Btw it's sunday tomorrow here too... dang it IS already sunday with you, <Jess>!

heh

I'll reply to your OSTRICH tomorrow, too.

Nov-10-07  Zebra: <achieve> Niels, Lars... I'm getting really confused. Which is you and which is your dog?
Nov-10-07  achieve: Lars is the sharper dresser, almost all the time... ;-P

But I do have to open doors for his highness ;-)

Nov-10-07  Zebra: Which is the one that keeps beating people on Gameknot?
Nov-10-07  achieve: THAT WOULD BE MEEEE!!! ;-)

Honestly I can't stand another Smith-Morra...

When are we gonna set up the Nimzo mini? I only have 3 games going right now... Don't know how busy your schedule is...

Nov-10-07  Zebra: I still have an annoying couple of games dragging on in a double kings-pawn mini. (Against a very slow player - our first game has lasted ages, and then I have to play him again before I am free.) Maybe add a postponement to that, as I am off to a conference the week after next. So it's not looking promising, I'm afraid - probably looking at December.
Nov-10-07  achieve: Ah I just checked and you have over ten games going now... several over 2000 opponents! - cool!

December sounds okay - I'm in no hurry anyway.

Domdaniel: <Eyal> Nice find. I thought if the ...Bxf2+ sac had been played before, it would be in a game from the 19th century. But you can never underestimate those German under-10 championships.

<modification of previous 'advice'> -- for "don't let him get any initiative going" read "don't let *her* get any iniative going, especially if she's a nine-year-old".

That should cover most scenarios.
