jessicafischerqueen: <Plato> Isn't <Karjakin> playing <M-Tel> this year?
I love his style, have played through many, many of his games here at CG.com. I'll be cheering for him (he's in the tournament, right?) And what the heck
<Karjakin> wins, stunning upset, career changing triumph, you heard it all here first. GO SERGEY (if you are in fact playing in the tournament). PS I absolutely can't wait for the <M-Tel> to start. I watched all of last year's event, and was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED by the game in which <Anand> beat <Topalov> with black. Less strong field this year, I understand. But this <Car Jacking Guy>, I tells you-- didn't do so well in his last super tournament but I think it's just a matter of time till he makes a breakthrough. And what about all them other insanely talented young Russian GMs? Morozivich, Grischuk, Radjabov, that Kid with the Panda Bear who's ten and won <Tier two> of the <Moscow Open> this year.... Any talk of the "demise" of Russia as a chess power is sheer nonsense. And we can just ask our current unified World Champion, a fine Russian fellow. BTW, <Aronian> has to be given insane props for beating <Kramnik>, and so decisively on the penulitmate round... <Lev>, star of last year's <Chess Olympiad> and a legitmate and logical contender to become next World Champion. I think there's little doubt he has the talent to achieve this-- perhaps it's a question of nerves, luck, and how well the other Super GMs play. Gosh and Mexico and the Candidates Matches start in like a week <Ragh> was saying a few posts up there... So many 2700 plus GMs competing..
THIS IS A FANTASTICALLY EXCITING CHESS YEAR!!
Dang I got so excited I hit a key and reformatted my screen here. Doh!!
KK I"m going to try to get it back to normal.
Jess of the knows zero about computers.

Good enough to nominate for two categories I believe... Btw you posted it in a thread with <Plato> - Where is that fine fellow anyway? Boy he was both smart and funny- and what a groveler! |

<Return in Red> 2007 STARRING:
<JJ Huckin> (Platoon, Porky's V) <Linda McCormick> (Evita, Triumph of the Will> DIRECTED BY:
<Tyler Tharpe> (Citizen Kane, Full Metal Jacket) TRAILER:
http://www.suckers!!.org
SYNOPSIS:
The "Government" descends on a small town that still has rotary phones. There are no police here. The "Government" drives people insane by testing a military device that deranges people with sound waves. REVIEW:
When one considers the <horror genre> in toto, or <the horror film qua horror film>, if you will, two facts are inescapable. There is a very, very large market for the <horror film> and a very, very small market for film reviews that have the word <"qua"> in them. That said, the production values are so minimal here that all who own a cellular phone should be excited by the fact that they could make a better looking and sounding film. The acting is low key to the point of non-existence, and not in a good "cinema verite" way either. It's just plain awful. In fact, it's so awful it seems like "real people." So when terrible things start happening, the audience is almost asleep, so the horrific scenes have tremedous impact. Really. This film lulls you into such a torpid state that one is no longer "desensitized" to violence. At any rate, in a bizarre way, this makes the film unusually effective. It's truly horrifying. --Pauline Kael (deceased)- THE NEW YORKER
BEST LINE IN THE FILM: (not kidding)
<Guy in toque:> "Did you eat half of my Super-Sandwich?" <Guy in baseball cap:> "What Super-Sandwich?" BOTTOM LINE: I really enjoyed this film, but if you've got time in your schedule to watch it, you have to face the possiblity that your life may have gone very, very wrong at some point. |

| Dec-13-07 | | WBP: Hey, <Jess>. Thanks for the two visits to my house--sorry I missed the first--at least I think I did. These days "cogito ergo sum" no longer carries much weight in my case. I'm in utter agreement regarding the authenticity of the Chapman and Roe incidents. At the bneginning of class last year I had the students research and report on six major-such incidents (the Bauman case, Ape Canyon, Roe, Chapman, et al), and those two cases received the best response--i.e., were regarded as most authentic-sounding--of all those discussed. I'll do the same next semester. And you're absolutely right about the "cow coming out of the forest" having the ring of truth about it. Isn't it great about <Eyal>! Yeah, No Country For Old Men kicks some big butt--Bardem's going to get an Oscar, I'm willing to wager. But I'm still trying to track down the picture of Joey "The Clown" Lombardo that looks exactly like Bardem's character--the haircut, the sullen, menacing expression, and so forth. Sure wish I was computer-savvy (which I see I spelled "saavy" in <Dom's> house--these damned fingers!) and could find it and post it here. I've been trying to solve that fantastic chess problem posted by <syracropy> in <Ahmadov's> house. (And by the way, should you look in there, you should be aware that the original FEN apparently was wrong: the bishop on f1 is White; <YouRang> lost lots of time trying to solve the puzzle under the impression that it was Black!) Yeah, the Rape of Nanking was/is serious business. There's a really gripping book out about it I read several years ago. Cheerio! |

| Dec-13-07 | | evenua: Hi Jessica,
I am living in Korea at the moment, though I've been in Paris for a year from 2006~2007. I might move to States or UK next year. Well, I don't think I am bad-looking, at least :) Btw, how come you know those Korean words? I wonder if you have some friends there from Korea? ;) Oh, feel free to visit my forum, though there isn't much to see. Regards,
Vince Cho

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Vince>!!
My Korean name is Choi Hyunpoong.
I've been teaching in Korea for 4 months, and I'm busy almost all the time. But I've been learning some Korean from my students, who are happy to teach me. At the rate I'm going, I should be able to have a Korean conversation in about 20 years. Hey are there any chess clubs near where you are?
There are Zero chessclubs within a 500 mile radius of my school. Sigh.
However, Korea is a very beautiful country and you really couldn't meet a nicer group of people, as a whole. Very nice manners and the students are nicer than Canadian students. Even the "bad" ones. Regards,
Choi Hyunpoong. |

| Dec-14-07 | | achieve: Hi <Jess>!!
I just acted like a blabbering fool over at Dom's - thanks for your support over these past few months -- there is some truth behind the blabbering. Even my blitz is improving like mad...
Do you have the weekend all for yourself now?
|
|
| Dec-14-07 | | achieve: PS. I deleted the blabbering at Dom's - it was a bit over the top... A few hours to Kamsky - Shirov (second quarter)
Hard to pick a favourite... |
